Who: Daphne and Seth
What: Lunch date
Where: Daphne's home and then restaurant
When: Lunchtime :]
Rating: TBD

Part of Daphne thought that this was a bad idea. She had turned Seth down for a dinner date because she thought it would be inappropriate for a single woman such as herself and a married man- and oh, how she despised admitting that wretched woman was his wife; what he saw in her she'd never know- to have a dinner together, but she had accepted his lunch invitation. Lunch seemed less intimate, in her opinion. Lovers went to dinner. Friends went to lunch.

Of course, that hadn't stopped Daphne from being meticulous about her appearance. She had spent a good while picking out a dress that she felt was form-fitting enough to catch his attention but modest enough not to scream 'abandon your wife for me', though perhaps it might not have been such a bad idea.

She took her seat in the parlor. Much to her dismay, she could remember the last time she had met him here. She had been the complete opposite of the composed lady who sat there now. She was never going back to that state, and it would suit everyone involved to just pretend it had never happened. So Daphne sat, legs crossed neatly at the ankles as she took up some light reading until Seth arrived.

It was ten until eleven when Seth woke up with a splitting headache and in cold sweat. An hour later, he was standing before the steps of the Greengrass manor, hands itching, and not quite sure what to do with himself. In between that time, he had rolled out of bed and washed the blood off his nose as the clock chimed with bells at eleven, then finished shaving by quarter after. Seth took exactly nineteen minutes to get dressed, and by eleven forty, the house elves were removing his pillowcase, which had been soaked with blood from the night while Seth took his pill, and a little something extra for the pain.

At twelve until twelve, Seth was standing in a barren room that used to be his wife's private quarters. Two nights ago, she packed up her things and left for the Moon manor in the south of France about fifty minutes after their last screaming match, claiming that she can't take it anymore. Seth called Marley eight minutes after his wife disappears off the property, and was told that he had to prepare for a lengthy court battle. Last night, the paper work arrived via owl, and was returned via owl, not because Seth did not want to divorce her, but because there was in no way that Seth was going to give her that much money.

Eleven forty-nine, the front door slammed open and Mrs. Zabini clicked angrily into the lobby just as Seth disapparated from the manor to arrive precisely at eleven fifty before the Greengrass mansion. Reaching out, he knocked heavily on the door.

Shooing off the house elf that had rushed over to answer the door, Daphne moved to answer the door herself, pulling open the heavy doors to see him standing there looking... not so well, but quite as she had expected.

Daphne had gotten used to the idea that Seth Moon was not going to be Mr. Perfect long ago. She had split with him for a reason, though she tended to overlook it rather often when that ridiculous organ in her chest refused to cooperate. She still found herself running to him for support as she had when her magic had gone, and she still found herself wanting to spend time with him, as was apparent by today's meeting.

"Hello, Seth," she greeted softly, stepping aside so he could come if he wished.

It had always been hard to keep up his image around Daphne, that is, the one that the media knew him best by and the exact same one that earned him magazine titles year after year, despite the fact everything about him should be boring by now.

His fame, his face, his money were the objects of everybody's affection, Seth was no fool to think that people actually liked him- as a person. Except for Daphne, and the fact that she left when he was being a major prick (showing up to dates drunk, getting high during their anniversary, frolicking with other women) showed him that she cared, unlike the others who stayed for the sake of their part of the will. It was weird to say, but Seth truly appreciated that Daphne left, if she hadn't, he'd probably still be thinking that he could not lose.

"Hi," he replied with a small smile, suddenly feeling uncharacteristically shy. "Thanks," Seth nodded as he slipped passed her into the mansion and hoped that the word awkward was not etched across his forehead, "Uh. How have you been?"

Shutting the door carefully behind him, she turned to face him. Sometimes she wondered if things had changed at all between she and Seth, and then there were times when the change in their relationship were so blatant it was almost painful. Like now, for example. It was like trying to pass someone who tries to pass you at the same time. You both move right, then left. You laugh nervously and try again, only to end up doing some awkward sort of dance around each other until someone finally works up the gall to make a dash for it.

They had been dancing around each other for years now. It could be rather exhausting at times.

"Good," she answered, made slightly uneasy by his demeanor. Usually Seth made some attempt to plaster on the face he wore for everyone else, but he didn't even appear to be trying today. Had something happened? "Is... everything okay, Seth?" she asked hesitantly.

"No, no, not really," Seth sighed, looking a little helpless. Scratching the back of his nervously, Seth shifted in his spot. It was not that he avoiding the opportunity to tell her, but nothing in his head sounded right. How was he suppose to phrase 'I'm leaving my wife, and I want you back. But we can't yet because things are going to get very complicated, very fast' and make it sound less like a nail to the head? Clearly, he had not thought this through. Sometimes he naively wished life worked more like a script and less like an unsupervised crash test, with him as the crash test dummy. At least in those shows he did, Seth always knew what was coming.

Taking in a deep breath to calm his nerve, Seth resisted the urge to press his head against something cool to less the burn behind his eyes, and gave Daphne a small smile, "I'm a little hungry, I must admit, I just woke up. You think we could get something to chow on?" Seth tried to look at ease, he did not want to scare Daphne away before he got started. That will defeat the entire purpose of this meeting, "I'll tell you then?"

It was always strange for Daphne, even after spending so much time with Seth, to hear people so openly admit when something was bothering them. When asked if she was uspet, Daphne had always been trained to assure the questioner that nothing at all was wrong, that she was just a bit tired that afternoon, etc. She sometimes wished she had the ability to be as open as he was.

"Of course," she replied, offering a small smile. "Where are we going?"

"How about the Teahouse?" Seth suggested. The location in mind was a little further out- by the ocean, in fact- than Seth would have usually liked, but it was nothing that a simple apparation could not solve.

He used to take Daphne there all the time, back when they were still together and Seth still lived with his parents at the Moon Estate. It was a little, country cafe that stood on the edge of a cliff so you can hear the waves crashing not too far off, they had a grand selection of tea leaves for you to choose from and somebody's always there to play the piano in the background. "You still remember where it is?"

Daphne hesitated at his choice of destination. It was somewhere they went frequently when they had still been together, and she was unsure of what sort of conotation it might still hold for Seth. Of course, she could be overanalyzing. It could just have been a favorite place of his.

"How could I forget?" She offered him a small smile. She offered a petite hand. "Side-along apparation?"

Hesitation was only a moment, but Seth caught it. For a brief moment, Seth wondered if this was a bad idea. Of course, he was too far in by now to back out without risking a huge, almost definite chance of pissing Daphne off real bad. Right now, he would love nothing more than to be on Daphne's good side. Nodding slightly, Seth returned her smile, wondering if it was just him or was it wobbling a bit, and took her hand into his. TImes like this felt familiar out of context, just being with Daphne and holding her hand- you know what they say, you never forget your first love.

Making sure that she was ready, Seth focused on the sceneries that surrounded the Teahouse, on the noise from the ocean, and senses so vivid that he felt as if he was already- And they were there. Glancing at the small cottage, Seth cocked his head to the right, "Huh. It's a little smaller than I remembered it to be..." He was pretty sure that this was the right place. Backdrop seemed right and all that.

Feeling that familiar pull, Daphne closed her eyes, opening them when she finally felt herself upon solid ground once more. It looked exactly as she remembered. The sound of crashing waves overpowered the soft murmurs of conversation as she looked to Seth.

"It's just as I remembered it." If only things between them were just as she remembered from the last time they had been there, if only she didn't have to release his hand for propriety's sake, if only, if only. "How are things going, Seth?" she asked politely.

It was warm inside the cottage. There were already a few customers, sitting at the creaky wooden tables on handmade chairs lined with hand-stitched pillows. "Business wise, I can't really complain," Seth took off his coat, hanging it on the hook beside the door along with other patron's jackets, and held out his hand for Daphne's. "Elder was considered a bit hit, so the directors and I are going to work on another project. We haven't really worked out the details yet." Seth carefully avoided talking about his personal life because that was the main event- so to speak- and he wanted the conditions to be right.

Seth motioned for Daphne to take a seat by the window overlooking the cliff. He was glad that this table was open, it used to be his favourite seat in the cafe, because he could watch the waves rise and fall for hours. "What about you?"

"That's great, Seth," she replied, smiling. She honeslty was proud of Seth's success, despite what came along with it: the drugs, the alcohol, the sex. Sometimes Daphne wondered what Seth could possibly see in her. She drank rarely, she certainly never partook in drugs, and it was a well-known fact that any pureblood princess was going to wait until marriage. She was to give herself to her husband. They were certainly polar opposites in their social aspects. "I saw it," she admitted. "It was good. You were brilliant." She felt silly saying that, like one of his ridiculous fans, the little brats running about around screaming at him to sign their chests.

"Things are wonderful, as always." Things were always wonderful in Daphne's perfect pureblooded bubble, or at least she was trained to make it seem that way. "Father's been terribly busy recently. I haven't seen much of him as of late."

For some reason, Seth felt relieved. Validation always tasted sweeter when it came from Daphne's lips. "Thanks," he said and meant it. He paused for a moment, toying with the hem of his sleeve. It was an expensive shirt, he thought Tracey or Pansy might have gotten it for him. For all his fame and fortune, a sense of style was something that Seth never really grasped. Marley used did his shopping, or gifts he received from fashion designers, who said things like he had good bone structure so he should wear certain types of clothing. It was weird, and a little unsettling at best.

"Oh," Seth bit his lip. He did not quite knew Daphne's father, the only thing he knew was that he wasn't the man's favourite person, certainly not the first choice when it came to giving away his little girl. If Greengrass senior wasn't a pain in his arse, Seth would go ahead and say that he was just being a good father. But then again, Seth did not have much of comparison to go by. "Is something wrong?"

The waitress was a skinny, little thing with sun-blonde hair and a heart shaped face, she smiled at the them when she asked what did what to drink to start off with. Feeling a little dull, Seth decided to go traditional and ordered the Earl Grey. The teahouse gets all of their tea leaves straight from the homeland of all spices and tea- India. That was one of the reason why Seth liked this place so much.

"Wrong? Oh. No, of course not," she answered, a hint of a blush coloring her cheeks. "I'm sure it has something to do with all the kidnappings and magic loss. Every department in the Ministry got hit pretty hard with it, and my father's a Department head, so I'm sure he's just buried in work at the moment."

Politely ordering the same, as she often did when out with Seth, Daphne watched the tiny waitress disappear, watching Seth to see if he watched her go. "Forgive me for saying so, but you look... tired, Seth. Have you..." Been partaking in far too many illegal activities to mention? "Been getting enough rest?"

Certainly not, but that was not the root cause of his problems as Seth had become accustomed to running on caffeine and adrenaline for a while now. Playing with the hem of his sleeve, Seth chewed the inside of his mouth- a bad habit that used to drive his mother insane. Then again, a lot of his ways, and essentially everything that boiled down to who he was, drove his mother insane. It was not a particularly satisfying thought, but there were somethings in life that one just had to live with. Having parents that found you, at best, a nuisance, was one of them, apparently.

"Daphne," Seth said quietly, feeling oddly nervous although he could not really justify that feeling, "I don't want to throw you off course or anything, but I'm getting divorced, and I thought that you have the right to know." She did, in a way. There were still leftover feelings between them, Seth could not deny that, and that was always the reason he had a hard time isolating himself from Daphne. This was not an effort to win back an exgirlfriend, not by a long shot. His divorce with his wife was almost inevitable. Their marriage, although started out with romance and passion, boiled down to business contracts, power, and money. And it was not a merger, it was an attempted takeover, and a violent one at that.

Daphne felt her throat tighten at his words. While part of her was positively elated at this news, as it meant Seth was no longer going to be attached to his pathetic excuse for a wife, it also meant, well, that he was no longer off limits. Daphne had become reliant on his marital status to keep her from going against her better judgment.

Seth was wonderful in many ways: sweet, charming, attractive, interesting, but he also had his glaring flaws. He was irresponsible, impulsive, and, as she had stumbled upon during their relationship, an addict in numerous senses. Those negative traits should have been enough to keep her far, far away as her father had clearly wanted, but for some bizarre reason, Daphne kept getting sucked back in to the vortex that was Seth Moon and everything that accompanied him. Her surefire forcefield had suddenly disappeared, leaving her feeling very, very vulnerable.

"I- Seth, I'm sorry," she choked out, attempting to maintain composure and proper manners in the midst of everything. A hand reached across the table to cover his. "Are- How are you holding up?"

Tensing slightly out of instinct when her bare hands laid upon his, Seth coiled his fingers together into a protective fist before relaxing again. "I'm fine," Seth gave her a small smile, flipping his hand over so that they were palm to palm and gave hers a gentle squeeze, then pulling away.

The truth was that it was broke him into little pieces (pardon the cheese) when Daphne left him, even though he knew she had every right and damned good reasons to. She was the first girl he truly felt he could be together with forever, but he was foolish. There were girls (and some boys) pining after him at every turn, and his ego got to him in the worst way possible- he cheat, he lied, he did the stupidest things he could to drive her away. After that, his pride kept him away and, somehow, he managed to convince himself that he was ready to move on, and that Daphne Greengrass was too small of a pond for him to stay (so to speak). For the first in a long time, there was hope for them yet and this was an opening. But the point was not to jump at it- because of the court battle, because he could very well go back to his old habits again.

Seth desperately wanted her to know that he really had no expectations.

Continuing on, Seth shrugged and tried to look nonchalant, but the thought of this always boiled his blood, "But she's asking for a ridiculous sum of assets to stay in her custody- ie, things that are legally mine. She's holding up the paperwork until I agree, or one of us cracks..." Seth like to think of himself as a pretty easy-going guy, especially from a political point of view. But everything he had now, he worked to from nothing. People tended to think that he had it easy, and in someways, he did now, but the beginning was rougher than any of them could imagine. There were days when Seth truly thought he had to go crawling back to his father.

Daphne tensed as he spoke of his soon to be ex-wife's attrocious behavior. If there was one thing Daphne couldn't stand, it was money-hungry imbiciles who took advantage of people. There were thousands of them around the world, trying to sink their claws into the elite and suck them dry. It only suited that the pathetic cretin he had chosen as his wife would turn out to be a gold-digging bitch. Daphne had always known she didn't like the look of her.

"I'm sure you've already obtained excellent legal counsel, but should you need more or better, you know my father has excellent connections." There had been others before him who had used the same lawyer, and she knew her father would cave to her request even with his dislike of Seth.

She hesitated before speaking again. "You don't deserve this. That dreadful woman will get what's coming to her, don't worry." Daphne also had some not so public contacts that would be glad to help with the... persuasion of Miss Zabini. She would be making a call later that evening.
