Grocery store - Tag to Parvati
Who Christopher Warrington and Parvati Malfoy
Where Save-A-Lot, the grocery store
When Late afternoon
What Christopher is whipped like a whipped butter. Parvati probably does the whipping. Not on Chris, 'cause that'd be weird. And not literally either, or maybe literally. I don't know. And frankly, I don't want to know.

It started out drizzling just after mid-noon, and by the time Christopher stepped out from the Clark and Abel building in this distinctively upscale neighborhood, it turned into a downpour. Behind him, Christopher could still hear the secretary telling him to have a good day as the glass doors swung shut with a muffled thump. Christopher uttered a quick charm to repel the rainwater and hiked up his suit jacket then started down the street toward a grocery store he saw earlier when he was coming. Ever since Sally-Anne returned home, thankfully safely and uninjured, Christopher did most of the housework because he wanted his wife to relax after recent stressful events. Christopher also, admittedly, hovered around Sally-Anne, and despite his probably very valid reasons, Christopher could understand why Sally-Anne found him irritating and, therefore, removed him from her line of sight this morning by making him go to his interview, which he was contemplating to skip. He was glad that he did this interview, the job offered rather swell benefits and paid well for an entrance position- that Christopher was overqualified for.

The grocery shop was large and brightly lit. A couple of mums brushed passed Christopher in rush, children and babies in tow, and Christopher felt distinctively out of place. While Christopher had no qualms about doing household chores, he was no homemaker, and he certainly did not look like one. It was only a while back that he was told- by whom he can't remember- that he looked like a crime lord. Christopher had a nagging suspicion that whoever told him this had never actually seen a crime lord. Anyway, yeah, the interview. Christopher walked through the aisles, red basket hanging from his arm as he looked through cereal brands and wondered if they had milk, and if he should call back to check (no point in having jugs of milk just hanging out). When he left the house, Sally-Anne said that she was probably going to take nap, if she did do that, Christopher did not want to wake her. Beside him, a mother was unsuccessfully trying to placate her screaming son, who was kicking and flailing and generally being a menace to society. Doing his best to ignore the racket, Christopher reached up for a box of wheat things.

Parvati briefly wondered if Chris was a robot. Surely, not all those who worked in finances were this way? Certainly not the accountants and analysts that worked for Draco...but then again their overt friendliness to the young Mrs. Malfoy had lost them many a priviledge (one even was fired).

"That's so lovely that you go shopping for Sally-Anne!" Parvati cooed, "Well, they are really just empty calories, Christopher." Her mediwitchery self beginning to kick in. It was strange when this happened because happy-go-lucky Parvati quickly turned serious and professor-like, "If you're looking for fibre in a snack then you should consider that cereal "Tree Bark", it has 20g of fibre per serving and tastes quite nice overall." She glanced at him, "And it's not actually tree bark."

Clasping her hands together, Parvati nodded seriously, "Well, that's good. Please tell her that I would love to have her for tea when she's feeling up for it." An opening into high society could not be passed up, "I...I really feel so sorry that such a horrid thing had to happen to such a nice girl." Tears welled in Parvati's eyes at the thought.

Not for the first time, Christopher wondered if all women were mind-readers. Sally-Anne did this as well, answering his questions, or at least touching base, without Christopher ever having to utter his thoughts. Frankly, it becomes a little unnerving.

Smiling lightly, Christopher placed the box of wheat things back on to the shelf, deciding to take her word for it. He takes a box of "Tree Bark," which as a picture of a barking tree on the front, and dropped it into his basket, grimacing slightly as the carton let out a particularly loud "woof". "Some people working in the marketing department for this company ought to be fired," he shook his head, wincing slightly at the dull pain in his neck. Maybe he was really becoming an old man.

"You are very kind, Parvati," he said with nothing but pure sincerity. "It was a very unfortunate situation, but I am just glad that she is back now, safe and all." Curiously, Christopher added, "Were you two close friends at school?"

Women have a lot of powers Men don't know about. Silly boys.

Giggling at the barking trees that made varying canine sounds at them as they passed, Parvati happily rolled her cart along, very pleased at the quaint feeling of grocery shopping with a friend. "Well, I think they realise that they needn't put much care in as the product is so healthy it doesn't need much flash as the hardcore granola types-" She eyed the witch who was looking at the same cereal, "Don't often care for such things."

The witch was in tattered robes, wore socks with flip-flops and obviously didn't care to wax her unibrow.

"Yes, I'm certain you will take very good care of her." Parvati replied earnestly. "No, not really," She admitted. "Only acquaintances, really. I know her a little better in recent years, I believe she wishes to pledge to The Orchids, but I would most like to become better friends with her. I think we'd understand eachother well: Two non-slytherins with slytherin husbands, quite a conundrum we've gotten ourselves into." She joked.

Christopher had half a ear listening to what Parvati was saying as he was busy being distracted and comparing the prices on two strawberry jam spreads. He always had an affinity for jam spreads with peanut butter, and was an avid fan of eating more jam than bread. Briefly, he wondered if the difference in prices was due to the fact that one was brand name and the other was not. Was it just him, or does the phrase, "brand name jam spread" sound a little ridiculous. "I try," to take care of his wife, that is. He did not want to become one of those pureblood men with a trophy wife, that would take all the fun out of being married.

Turning to Parvati, Christopher raised an eyebrow, "She did? I mean, she wants to join the Orchids?" He can't recall Sally-Anne ever mentioning something like that, and if she did, Christopher was fairly positive he would remember. Not that it was any big deal. Sally-Anne can affiliate with any group she wanted, as long as it was within their agreed moral grounds, which Christopher overlapped at some point. He just did not think that Sally-Anne was interested in that type of thing.

"Well, I've heard it mentioned. Or at least her name has been thrown about. It's quite a honor, of course. Pureblood women practically vying to get into the organization." She said primly. The Orchids rather bored her really, but as their prized new princess, Parvati thought that perhaps she may have some sway to make things a little more fun and a little less ...old.

Parvati gave Chris a smile, "You know, it's really obvious that you care for your wife. That's so refreshing in our society!"

Christopher raised an eyebrow at Parvati but decided on against saying anything that could potentially land him in deep- excuse his language- shit. His impression of the Orchids was a bunch of old, pureblooded trophy wives sitting around gossiping and generally being really passive aggressive. At least, that was what he got from his mother's stories, who was a member of the Orchids before she decided that the casino was more entertaining. Christopher sincerely hoped that Sally-Anne was not seriously considering this, or at least, she had to know what she is getting herself into. Christopher did not want to sound like a paranoid loon, but he had always eyed such affiliation with a degree of suspicion.

"Oh yeah?" Christopher replied to Parvati's comment, giving her an incredulous smile thinking that she was joking, "That's funny."

The Orchids were all that indeed, Christopher was right on the nose, but they also held a lot of influence - especially over women who were not in the organization. It was the whole popular girls vs not thing all over again.

Parvati frowned a little, "No, Christopher. I mean it. Most treat their wives as just trophies at best." She honestly liked that Christopher and Sally-Anne were a love match.

Oh. Christopher paused momentarily in mid-stride toward those nifty tubs of those magical sponges that gets rid of even the toughest stains; they could use that in the kitchen, after his unfortunate meltdown with the lasagna. He and Sally-Anne agreed that she should take care of the cooking from now on. "Ah, my apologies," Christopher said softly, although he wasn't quite sure whether he was apologizing for his assumption or the fact that pureblood marriages still blew, for the most part. Although, strangely was that, he had always thought Draco and Parvati married for love- their romance in Hogwarts was epic, after all.

"Are you speaking from experience?" Now Christopher felt compelled he had to ask, but she was the one who opened that can of worms. :(

Happily wheeling her cart alongside Christopher as he shopped, Parvati looked at the sponges with the strange detachment of one who rarely ever cleaned.

"Hm, what?" His words registered and immediately her eyes flew open, "Oh no! Of course not, Draco and I were a love match for sure!" She giggled, "What I meant was that I know very few other couples like us, so it's refreshing!"

Parvati shook her head, "Oh, Draco treats me wonderfully, like a princess!" And then realising they were in a pureblood area, "But of course, he's still the boss." She added wryly.

"We should double-date one day!"

Quite frankly, Christopher was glad that she stopped there; he didn't need to know the personal business and doings of Draco Malfoy, thank you very much. He preferred to still think of Draco as he did in Hogwarts, wealthy, intelligent and a big of dick. He never quite cared for the politics that fueled that guy's clique and was quite certain he did not want to be a part of it in the future. It was not that he didn't like Draco, just decidedly apathetic.

Filling up his basket with some more miscellaneous household items, Christopher stopped dead in his tracks at the younger girl's comment. For a moment, Christopher thought he heard she suggested they should "double-date," which was a horrifying thought. "Oh, um, er," he started intelligently, "I don't think Sally Anne is into that kind of thing..."

Parvati meanwhile, was happily thinking of the personal business and doings of Draco Malfoy. It was one of her favourite things to think about. Similarily to Chris however, she too was thinking about Draco's assets: wealth, intelligent and owner of a big di-ahem! Parvati Malfoy does not think using such crude words.

Her brows creased slightly, "What do you mean? Every girl loves to go out on dates! I think it'll be just lovely. Once she's all better we'll take you two out for dinner...ooh and maybe bowling afterwards! Something really cheesy like that would life anyone's spirits!" Parvati chattered on, having already decided this to be so. Christopher, don't you realise you stand no chance?

That was what Christopher was afraid of: dates. It reminded too much of those awkward meetings his parents tried to set up between him and various potential wives, wherein Christopher spent most of his time trying to keep a conversation going and the girl being all quiet and generally uncooperative. He likened to think that this might turn out different, since both parties were married, but Christopher, even the realist, could already see the business-like attitude that Draco and, therefore, he will sport with a side helping of forced interest from the ladies. At some point, the force that was Parvati Malfoy had to falter, and Christopher thought it will be beyond that line of double-dating. He feared to cross it.

"What about Draco? Shouldn't you get his thoughts on this first?" It was a low blow, Christopher winced, and he knew it. However, desperate times called for desperate measures.

Parvati had been happily carting ahead when she froze at Christopher's words. Fortunately, her back was to him at the moment, so he missed seeing the look of absolutely murder in her eyes.

Parvati Malfoy hated being thought of as her husband's obedient wife, as if she was one of those pureblood women who required his permission to do anything. Especially if it was over a subject that she would, in fact, need to run by him.

"Pardon me?" Parvati whirled to face Christopher, her expression perfectly schooled into one of pleasantness and properness while her eyes blazed. "I needn't ask Draco permission to breathe, Christopher. Regardless, I am certain he would be fine with it, else I wouldn't have asked." She was talking in the clipped tones of pureblood upper society, meaning that, in short, she was pissed. "Although you clearly aren't, am I correct?"

Oh dear. Parvati's anger would later dissolve into hurt feelings that she would lament to Draco in tears. This would lead to a close to homicidal anger in him. For, in fact, Draco was often quick to indulge her as long as it hadn't anything to do with the Gryffindor trio. He may balk at the suggestion of the double date, may even scold her over it, but he would still go to make her happy. Draco liked Parvati to be happy and anyone who made her unhappy would therefore make a very dangerous enemy in him.

Wow, that's new. Christopher raised an eyebrow at the sudden change of atmosphere as he leveled a steady, blank gaze upon Parvati. The thing was that Christopher was not deliberately trying to be difficult or unkind- well, maybe he was being difficult on purpose- but he never took it well when he was being pushed around (or in this case, verbally coerced). Of course he would bring it up to Sally Ann when he got home, because Christopher was nothing if not reasonable. If she was interested, he was sure they could work something out and compromise. He did not really want to go, to be honest, so perhaps they can leave early or something like that. He would rather it be a compromised consensus and be semi happy than to be completely miserable in something else.

"I apologize, Parvati, if I had offended you. Of course you do not need your husband's approval to do anything," and that was completely sincere, "To be honest, which I guess I should have been in the beginning, I'm not too keen on the idea, but that is just because I am not particularly skilled at social interactions. If Sally Ann wants to go, however, we can work something out, I'm sure."

Christopher knew that if his attempt at damage control was not successful, no doubt this would eventually reach Draco Malfoy (although, if Parvati did that, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of her entire speech? Christopher decided he should not bring that up). To be perfectly frank, Christopher was not afraid of Malfoy, despite all the money and the status (was he going to use all those big guns just because Christopher did not share the same social interest as his wife? A little petty, yeah). The guy was still human, after all.

Yes, Christopher understood that Parvati was probably used to getting what she wanted (and he acknowledged the bias on his part because, really, he did not know Parvati all that well), and that just clashed with Christopher, who had the same pureblood stigma as the Malfoys, but lacked the financial backing. Sometimes, he wished he was not a pureblood, just so he can stop worrying about things like reputation, and image, and focus on providing a good life for his wife.
