When I said I wanted to go on vacation, the first real one I'd have had in a good decade, this is not really what I had in mind.

I've been told I know some people.

It's never what you had in mind, when it comes to getting yanked across universes.

Yeah.

It's always harder with her. Even if she believes me, I could end up hurting her by being the guy from a timeline where a version of her can actually have kids.

There's not really a good way to soften that news. It would be nice if there was a way to know how they're always going to react.

Psychic powers, but only for five minutes in the future. It's weird, but I'd take it.

You can have those powers. That does not sound like something I'd want.

Think of all the awkward stuff I could save myself from. It would be great.

So what's your weird sorta useful power of choice?

Going under the impression that it can't be anything too badass or powerful. Maybe the ability to always know what time it is? Or always knowing how long something will take

Your name can't be a coincidence -
I'm not entirely sure I had anything in mind.

Have you done this before then?

Which makes it even crazier, because anything goes.

I've been through this four times. I guess the good news is that seems to be a thing only peoppe who shared those worlds with me went through, at least as far as I know. So being here doesn't mean you'll end up doing the same.

Interesting. But being here might kick start a period of dimensional travel. Have you been back to your original world at all?

Nope. I haven't been home again, the first world I was in, either. Tor and I are used to it by now. But that's the really small minority, at least as much as anyone can guarantee.

That's a hell of a thing to have to get used to.

Tor a friend? Someone more?

Yeah, but what else can you do? There's no face on these powers to go punch.

Tor is Torunn, my girlfriend. We grew up together.

How unfortunate.

I'm glad you two have each other at least. Hopefully that's remained consistent for the two of you.

Tell me about it. It would be really freaking satisfying.

Kind of, but kind of not? Linear time is a joke in places like this. But it seems like you've got a few people here. That's good.

Linear time already went out the window for me recently so at least I'm somewhat prepared I suppose.

I'm not a fan of beating around the bush, and maybe this will let you off the hook a bit. Not really sure how someone in your position starts the conversation at least anyways.

Steve told me. Or rather I asked questions and he answered.

If you want to keep talking, I'd like to keep talking. If you're talking to me to be polite but this is way more than you want to deal with right now? I'll get it. I know I'm not her, but I'd like to get to know you. If you're open to that.

I had it as a 50/50 split between him telling you and you digging it up on here before you posted. I don't know how someone in my position does it, but I can tell you that when I do, it's always really awkward.

You should know that this is already going better than it has half the times I've met a version of Natasha/Natalia, and I've met a lot of versions. I'm cool with it if you're cool with it. I don't want me existing to hurt you bring up stuff you don't want brought up.

I'm guessing you know why it's a bit of surprise to me then.

It doesn't bring things up, at least in a bad way. I've been making my peace with things over the years. I've also learned that my definition of family is a far different thing than traditional. I can't speak for any other versions of myself but I know for me, if someone from my family showed up in a place like this, I would hope another version of me would watch out for them.

Yeah. I also know it sucks to have strangers know your private stuff and secrets, so we don't have to talk any more about it. Just wanted you to know that I know.

Found family is how I have family. I only ended up having my dad with me for a few months, and even though I had my mom with me longer, it wasn't as long as I had the family I grew up with, or the family I made in Blackpoint. And I can't seem to stop myself from doing it here either, even though I still screw it up.

Are you from DSteve's timeline?
