I suppose that it's high time I've introduced myself on this, though I'm not so sure that now's the best time. I understand that events like... this happen often here though, so perhaps it is.

I'm Tom Badgerlock. I arrived here about a week and a half ago, and have spent the last week acquainting myself with... all of this. It's all very different than where I'm from, but I think I've been getting the lay of the land.

I also suspect the money I was given on my arrival won't last too terribly long, so if anyone has any work, I would be grateful for it. I can do scribe work, though I don't suppose I'll be able to try my hand at creating inks for it without better acquainting myself with the local flora. I've done work in the past as a farmhand, and can do manual labour. Most recently I was employed as the valet and bodyguard of a particular lord, and then was recruited into the Queen's guard. I'm most proficient with an axe, though I can use a sword if necessary.

Guards, patrols, they also help bring in new arrivals of outlanders.

I've not been given the impression that my face is one people would like to see first thing when they're brought to another dimension and worried, but I will take it under consideration. Guard work has always been one of my better skills.

Is there something wrong with your face? It seems perfectly face-like to me. They tend to get a fair amount of monster attacks here if I remember correctly.

I have been told, very recently in fact, that my face looks "dangerous" and that I'm a "rather forbidding fellow." Not very friendly at all.

Who said that? Not very nice of them, but I've certainly seen uglier faces in London.

A hedgewitch I knew. She said it by way of explanation for the necklace she'd made me, that would make people more kindly disposed toward me.

A necklace typically isn't the first thing that makes me trust a person.

I'm Evie Frye, by the way.

It had magic to it. But I would prefer to know what people actually thought about me, rather than have their opinions swayed by a bit of magic jewellery.

It's a pleasure to meet you.

I certainly don't blame you for that, though I judge people more for their reactions to looks, it's a shallow society we all live in.

I suspect that's an aspect of humanity that's true across all universes.
