So my Willa girl's turning 8 on the 14th and I finally got my act together this year to put together a party for her. Saturday October 15th at the park from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Also she really embraces being an October baby so there's a mash up of fall and spooky happening. If your kid would like to dress up, they are more than welcome to because Willa certainly will be. I won't be but if you're feeling in the mood, go for it.

I'm sorry, eight? Remind me to tell her to slow the fuck down on the aging thing.

I tried but supposedly this is a thing children do, growing up and all that. Last thing I remembered from home was her being an infant and she showed up a five year old. I'm still catching up to that.

I hate to tell you this, but I don't think you're ever going to really catch up.

Not sure about that one. They say you reap karma that you sowed in your teenage years once they hit that age. That might do a good job of it if so.

Of course we do. Spooky Kids Club, didn't you know?

I didn't. Are you allowed to tell me that? The first rule of Spooky Kids Club isn't no telling any other months about Spooky Kids Club?

That would be fairly difficult. We May people don't have a club quite as interesting so we forget the rules regularly.

You're both more than welcome to come. Not that our celebration did much with themes back home but it's more like one of those. Just a community coming together. Also might've bought some hard cider for the adults.

You're starting to scare me about the future with a teenager with that talk. Ever seen The Addams Family? Her costume is Wednesday Addams.

Sorry, pal. She's good about finding time for me. There was just a point when she got her boyfriend that I wanted to tear down every door in the house.

Anyway, yeah, ha. The little gothic kid with the braids, right? Surprised that show is still popular, being black and white and all.

I guess there's plenty worse teenagers can get up to other than finding a boyfriend or girlfriend. That's a sentiment I can get behind though. Books talk about respecting them to make good decisions and I'm sure ours will but damn, it's gonna be hard not to want to clean my gun during pickup to make a point.

That was the version I figured she was talking about at first too. Apparently there's a few movies they made about them in the 1990s which aren't bad either.

Yeah I wasn't great about that. But I'm trying to be better. Truth is, she can take care of herself better than I can take care of her. But damn if I won't try anyway.

Oh. More to catch up on I guess. I was gonna ask if you were doing the tall gangly guy.

Couldn't have said it better. We do our best and pray that'll do it. It is a hell of a ride though. No amount of books on the subject ever prepare you for what's coming.

We have the DVDs if you want to borrow 'em. Willa did say I was more Lurch than Gomez because of the height but nothing suggested about costumes. Yet.

More than likely she inherited my necromancer abilities but they haven't shown up yet. At least she hasn't said anything about ghosts or imaginary friends that may be ghosts. Yours?

They must love this place. Weird is the normal way of things.

Necromancer. What will that mean for her? If you don't mind me asking. El's telekinetic and some other psychic business that I still can't wrap my head around really, but I'm doing my best.

They seem to be doing pretty good. They're really good at adapting.

Back home it was a government category listed on my license so I'm used to it. There's something of a connection with the dead. She'll have the ability to communicate with spirits and raise the dead or return them to their grave. I'll be honest though. Having the ability and raising a child with the ability are two very different things and I'm hoping I can do the latter justice. From someone who grew up being different? That you're willing to stick by her side just dealing with it means a hell of a lot.

Teenagers don't get enough credit for their adaptability. You get to a certain age and that's a goddamn superpower.

I think the same goes for a dad who sounds like he had a rough time growing up with it but tries to make sure his kid has support. Can't imagine what it's like being a kid who can raise the dead. That's a pretty heavy burden.

All the credit for that easily goes to the kid. First time I held her she had me wrapped around her finger. Also going to say take a look in the mirror because you could have said not my problem and instead asked to take it all on for her.

If you got the time, come on over this weekend and have a beer or a soda. We can talk kids, raising hell as teenagers, and whatever else two old men like ourselves talk about.
