Why can’t I dream about anything nice? I found my desk at the Raccoon City Police Department and it looks as though the department was going to have a little welcome party for me. The zombie apocalypse happened before I got here and now half of the department is dead and the other half are zombies that want to eat my flesh. There’s a part of me that wishes I’d reported when I was supposed to. The other half is glad that I didn’t.

I woke up this morning and apparently the gun I use in the dreams is here now. And so is my RPD uniform. The gun is useful, I guess. Not so sure about the uniform.

I think wearing the uniform is like tempting a zombie invasion. I've heard its happened before? But I'd rather it didn't while I'm awake.

Yeah, I know, which is why there's only part of me that wishes I'd arrived on time. Its just...I don't know, its dumb.

yeah. it happened. i don't think they were like culturally typical zombies, but they were a thing.

nah. like wondering if something might've been different. folks like that trying and all.

"Culturally typical"?

I mean, yeah, kind of. I don't know. I don't know what caused everyone to go zombie and my being there when I was supposed to be probably wouldn't have changed that. I'm a fucking 21 year old rookie cop, what the hell could I have done to stop it? But...they seemed like they were excited to meet me, like they were really good people. And here I am, arriving late and having to shoot them all in the head to save myself. I mean. Its fucked up.

like the moaning, groaning, decaying zombies. typical.

yeah. but zombies are fucked up. think about it, they're good people that were trying to be welcoming and whatever happened. you might be doing them one fucking kindness if all they know now is brains and shit.

As opposed too...?

You know what? No. Don't answer that question because I don't really want to think about it.

Yeah, you're probably right. If I were turned into a zombie, I'd much rather have someone shoot my head off rather than shuffle around half decayed with my jaw falling off.

...then again, I'd be a zombie, so maybe I wouldn't care? These guys don't seem to care.

And that's kind of the point. These were people once, with names and lives and, fuck I don't know, probably families and shit. The me in the dreams doesn't have a chance to think about this, but I do and its fucking with me.

i mean, it's not that bad? probably someone else in all this crazy going on has dreams of things like that right?

these ones were just like ... idk. alien zombies or something? apparently just like husk like things. not actual people things. different type, same name.

i kinda get it. in a way. a worse way but. they were those things, and now they're not. and when you think about it, if someone you knew, someone like a family member or whatever, was reduced to that, wouldn't you want them to just be put to rest or some shit? fuck man, i'd rather be dead dead than ambling around trying to kill people for brains or whatever else. it's shitty but it's a mercy in some ways.

Didn't I just tell you I didn't want to know? Alien zombies. Jesus Christ. Now I'm thinking about that kind of cluster fuck.

No, I wouldn't this to happen to anyone I know. Its worse than death, you're right. I haven't met anyone here who dreams anything like this and I'm glad Claire isn't actually here to have to go through this either. That and I'm about 95% sure her brother would literally put me through a wall if he knew I let her go off on her own during a zombie apocalypse.

shooting off their heads still worked i'm pretty sure.

silver linings all around then, eh? i mean aside from shitty zombie apocalypse stuff and all that, but still. i dunno if it's better or worse having folk that dream the same shit around.

Good to know the old tried and true method still works.

Sure, that can be considered a silver lining.

I don't really know either. I'm glad Claire isn't here, but it'd be nice to talk to her.

if in doubt, just go for that. most things don't live through losing their head.

pretty sure you're gonna need to look real hard for those.

kinda get it yeah. like some things suck but at the same time it's pretty good to talk to someone when that shit does happen.

No, they don't. If they do, than that's a whole slew of different problems.

I'm starting to realize that silver linings are hard to come by.

Yeah, it is. You've listened to me go on and on about it...so thanks.

well i mean. if it doesn't have a head.... how does it see things?

one minute everything is up, the next it's all down. that's kind of part of life.

eh. you supply coffee from time to time. besides, what else am i gonna do? lucky's in a mood with me.

Why is Lucky in a mood with you?

hands? that's a thing in a movie i saw.

we have to go to the v-e-t. he's not pleased. i think he's got a sixth sense about that.

Ugh. Dude, no.

Did you just spell vet over a chat forum?

Oh, right, yeah. I've never had pets, but I guess they'd kind of pick up on things like that?

There's nothing wrong, right?

i don't even think it's a horror movie.

i think the fact that i've stopped giving him pizza is also contributing to it. apparently it's not good for dogs. go figure.

nah. just a check. he hasn't actually been to the vet since the first time i took him when i found him.

Having eyes on your hands sounds pretty horror-esque to me. How do you pick shit up if the palm of your hand is an eyeball? You'd constantly be poking yourself in the eye!

Probably not? I don't think dogs are designed to eat pizza dough and sauce.

Probably a good idea, then. Get him caught up on his shots and stuff. Which probably won't put him in a better mood with you. Time to find a new treat?

i can't even remember what one it was, but i tend not to watch horror movies for that reason.

apparently not. which should be like in a pamphlet or something.

it won't least of all if he needs anything special done. probably not good to give him donuts then?

I used to like horror movies.

Do they make pamphlets for pet owners?

I don't think donuts are a part of a dog's diet. They barely qualify as human food.

i guess when you dream you live in one it takes all the fun out of it.

i'll check at the vet, i should've looked into these things when i got him.

you have a point there. we're going to need to get a lot of dog biscuits i guess.

Little bit, yeah.

A Google search would probably tell you what kind of treats are good for dogs.

you think that happens across the board? like the folks that dream of space get sick of all the star whatever movies, or the freaky vampire sorts are way done with the vampire shit?

that sounds like being far too responsible and adult.

I don't know. Maybe? Or maybe it depends on the person. Maybe someone out there would actually enjoy this shit.

And taking Lucky to the v-e-t isn't being a responsible and adult?

disney people? i dunno that'd get annoying too i think.

technically it's something i should've done six months ago. it wasn't like he was in good shape when i found him.

I think it would depend on the Disney property. Being stuck in a musical might get old, but one of their action movies might be fun.

...wait, do people actually dream that they're in a Disney movie?

Poor guy...uhm. Well, I was going to go out and hit a few bars this afternoon, maybe I can turn that into something more productive and figure out what treats would be good for Lucky to have.
