Maybe you'll get better with practice? Although, whether that's something you'd actually want to practice...

He doesn't really get on with our parents. And they like me. And it's an issue apparently. And my fault, obviously. Because I'm clearly out to get him.

Yeahhh. It'd be nice to be able to get back at her, I suppose, but I don't think I want to even pretend to be Katherine.

That's awful, I'm sorry. Almost makes me glad that Katherine's dickishness is just generalized and not focused on me. Not that I think you are, but I don't know you that well so I have to ask -- are you out to get him? I mean, you're the "good" twin, so I'd assume not, but it would be hard to take that much shit and not want to give some back.

God, no! I try to stick up for him when I can - when he's not being a complete idiot. I'm just... better at things than he is. Like soccer. And school. I mean, I could pretend I wasn't, to save his feelings, but I don't really think I should have to. I wanna go to college and that. But it's not like he's dumb. He could get good grades if he wanted, he just doesn't try and I do. We're just... different. Like two sides of the same coin, right?

And, like, he has his "things" too, which he's better at. They just happen to be things that our parent's don't necessarily appreciate...

I thought that would be the case. No, you shouldn't pretend to be bad at things just to make him feel better. There's nothing wrong with having different skill sets. Katherine and I are... sort of similar, except she just doesn't care. To be honest, I think I'd prefer your brother's way of dealing with things. At least that way I'd know if she even actually cared about me -- or anything, for that matter.

Let me guess -- these "things" tend to be on the shadier side of legal?

She probably does. I mean, even if she doesn't show it. Being a twin can be hard but, in the end, no one will ever feel the same connection with you as your twin does. Other things might mess with that but, at it's core, that connection's still there.

Yeaah, some of them are. Nothing bad just... not great. But he's really creative too. He's got an amazing imagination. We both like writing but, well, I keep a journal and write more factual things whereas he can just create worlds up off the top of his head. He could totally get a book deal if he just tried, but he won't. I think he's convinced himself that no one's ever going to give him a chance, so why bother, y'know?

That's how I feel, but I think if I ever tried to tell her that she would laugh in my face. She doesn't really believe in family, as far as I can tell.

Oh, you keep a journal? That's so cool, so do I! -- which wasn't the point, I know, I just don't know a lot of guys who keep journals. I'm a mix of you and Steve, I journal and I do creative writing. I'm actually going to UCI in the fall to major in English with a focus on Creative Writing. Do you think it would help Steve to have someone he could talk about that kind of thing with? Cuz I'd take one for the team, if so.

She might change her mind as you guys get older and do different stuff.

Yeah? That's cool. I don't really know many guys who journal either but, y'know, I like to break with the curve.

That's cool. I live in Irvine. Kinda been thinking about UCI too, but to do journalism or something, maybe with some digital arts thrown in too. I'm not really sure yet, but it's great that you've got it figured out.

Honestly, probably not. I mean, if you ever happen to run into someone called Steve Shan, go for it. But he'd probably just blow you off if he thought I'd put you up to talking to him. You're brave for offering, though.

Here's hoping, at least.

Oh hey, maybe we'll run into each other in Irvine some time, then! I'll be living there with my friend Claire, we're getting an apartment together instead of going the dorm route. Which I'm pretty excited about, let me tell you. Was not looking forward to sharing a bathroom with a whole floor's worth of girls.

lol, I'll keep an eye out for him, then.
