Who: Kyle Rayner and Solvei Samuels
What: Hanging Out/Checking On Her
Where: Her Loft/Bakery
Warnings: Nah, Probably Not

Despite the change in realities, which oddly enough wasn't that strange of an occurrence, the skies of New York had remained as he remembered. The layout to the city was etched in his mind, patrolling the air had become second nature to Kyle, after all, it had served as much of a home to him as anywhere else ever had. Still, there was that lingering feeling of it all being a dream, that none of this could be real. Even as he soared over the homes of hundreds, he couldn't shake it, and had to settle with doing his best to push it towards the back of his mind.

It wasn't as if his life had ever lacked a purpose, not since that fateful night that he had been entrusted with a ring, but he had a specific task at the moment. One that didn't require the presence of a Green Lantern, or the powers of Ion. No, all that was needed was Kyle Rayner, and as selfish as that might sound, it was something he needed. Everything lately had been one giant blur, to put it mildly, ever since the battle with Nero had gone down. It was a puzzle, he knew something big was happening around him, but he wasn't able to see all the pieces just yet.

Maybe that was why he was so concerned with a woman that he barely knew. It made everything else disappear, at least for a little while, but that wasn't the reason. Something about her, some nameless quality, it kinda drew you in. Made you want to care, even when you'd barely spoken, and he hadn't tried to fight it. Her problems had been vaguely described to him, and though Solvei may not know it, he understood her better than most people would. All the women in his life, they met the same fate, cursed by whatever power had been granted to him. Taken away without a reason. He tried to keep his chin up, but he'd been questioning things lately, just like he knew she was right now.

The bakery hadn't been hard to find, he was familiar with that part of town, so getting to the address was a breeze. Kyle landed on the ground a flew blocks from his destination, the increasingly familiar costume of Ion disappearing from his body. He coulda just flown to the balcony, but he didn't want his other persona making an appearance tonight, it wasn't what she needed. The rest of the trip was taken at a jog, until he found himself coming up on the bakery, and immediately went around back. She'd said that she would be at the balcony, so he planned on meeting her there.

Once he was to the back of the building, he looked up towards the balcony, smiling a little. That was his plan. To try and get her to smile. "Kinda feel like I should quote some Shakespeare from down here." He was, of course, referencing Romeo and Juliet, but that'd have to do for now.

"Kinda, I mean, it's Superman's. The Fortress of Solitude is his place...I went there to ask him a favor, and he ended up offering hot chocolate." For all intents and purposes, that had been a pretty good night, talking to Clark, showing him what he planned to do the following day. It was why he was hoping the big man was around somewhere.

Kyle could feel how small her hand really was when it was held within his own, small but soft, the scent of her shampoo was a faint fragrance in the air when they were sitting next to each other. The small amount of contact, it might have even seemed trivial to someone else, did make him feel better, which he knew was her intention. At the question she posed, he had to think about it, taking in a deep breath. "No. I wouldn't have been any different than him, if I had gone through with it. It was one of the only times I ever wanted to..'

There were two other women in his life that had suffered because of who he was, but dealing with one was enough for the moment, he didn't want the onslaught of memories. "You can tell me." He was willing to listen to anything she had to say. It'd help him understand what had upset her, and how he could fix it.

"Oh, is that where he lives?" She only had heard of Metropolis before but she wasn't sure if that was just something that was made up. It was hard right now. Having to try and separate myth from reality. There was time for her to figure it out she guessed.

It was hard for her to understand his world though since her world seemed to be more black and white where his world contained more shades of gray. The first thought that had popped into her head when thinking about Major Force was whether or not he was human. In her world, that made a difference. If Major Force was a vampire or demon, in Solvei's world, that would make his death justifiable. In Kyle's it didn't seem to work that way. "You're incredibly strong." She stated calmly and true because she believed it.

"I'll spare you the long drawn out details but the gist? I was engaged and happy before I came here. And, I had just found out that I was pregnant. I'm not anymore." She felt tears come to her eyes and she tried to fight them back. Bit her lip for a second she continued, "When I went on the board I saw who I thought was my fiance and his brother. He didn't know who I was, and he had absolutely no clue. He also told me that he was with someone else and that if I ever needed help with anything to let him know. Me, taking help from him? No." She felt a few tears slip through and she quickly let go of Kyle's hand and brushed them away.

"It just hurts, a lot, and I've always kept my chin up through a lot of things that I've been through. It just makes me wonder if in another life I did something to really piss someone or something off to deserve it." She shook her head a little trying to clear her mind.

"Sometimes. It's..kind of hard to describe without seeing it. It has the ship that he landed here in and a lot more than that." It carried a lot of Kryptonian history inside, and he knew Superman had all kind of alien artifacts, Kyle had been there when the Man of Steel was trying to catalog them, which wasn't such an easy task.

It was a high moral code that any Green Lantern was forced to follow. Lethal force was strictly forbidden, unless in the very most severe cases, and what happened with Major Force wasn't so. He'd apprehended the villain, put him in an emerald electric chair, and had been ready to kill him, but it would have went against the oath that he recited every time he charged his ring. "I had some help a long the way." Without the other members of the Justice League around, he knew he would have went through with it.

Kyle listened silently, her hand held within his own, eyes focused on Solvei. It made him wince as she explained what had happened to her. she might have called him strong, but hearing her tell her story, he was amazed at her inner strength. The women he loved may have passed away, but at least he new they loved him, they recognized him. To suddenly lose all that...he didn't know how she could take it. And a child...

When she pulled her hand away to wipe her tears, he scooted a little closer on the couch, not looking away. "You don't deserve that. Not any of it." Reaching out, he gently brushed a few blonde strands of hair away from her face, wishing he could take her tears away. "If I could change it for you, I would."

"Even with you help you prevailed." Sol was convinced that he was strong and kind and had done great things. In one short night she had found someone that she was definitely proud to consider a friend.

Even though he told her that she didn't deserve it she wasn't so sure right now. There were people that she'd failed to save. Even though she was a little girl at the time she still felt responsible for her parent's death. And now, Dean had been ripped away from her. When she had gotten here she at least felt a little comforted by the fact that she'd have the baby still. A part of him that she would have, but that wasn't the case.

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't." Sol tried to smile for him when he said that he wished that he could change things for her but it just didn't make it. She leaned into his hand a little bit when he brushed back some of her hair and put a hand to his hand. "I think that you're the best thing that's happened to me since I came here." Really, that is what she felt and she wasn't ashamed to admit it. She tried to brush off what she just said just in case that had made him uncomfortable. "I normally am not a crier. Guess you've seen multiple sides of Sol tonight."

Looking up at the sky she couldn't believed that they had talked for this long. The sky was starting to lighten a little bit and she knew that on the other side of the building the sun was probably coming up at the horizon. Her crew would be here soon to start the baking.

There was a lot of things that Kyle had accomplished in his life, he was thankful for all of them, for any lives that he had saved. But at the same time, he put immense amount of pressure on himself, it came with the territory. It might have made him stronger, but only through trial and error, which was the way that most people learned.

The uncertainty on her face was clear to him, she blamed herself for the things that had happened, and it would be hypocritical for him to tell her otherwise. That didn't mean he believed she deserved it, he knew that she didn't in his heart, she was too good of a person. If it were within his power, his right, to go back and change things, even though they had only known each other for one night, he would.

"You don't. I believe that just as much as I believe in anything else. Just from one night I know you deserve better." when she leaned in against his touch, fingertips softly stroked her cheek, until her hand was covering his own. "It works both ways. Not sure this place would be bearable if you weren't around." They might be new friends, but they were friends nonetheless, and that meant a lot.

He turned his head when she did, looking up towards the sky, where it was just starting to lighten, an indication of how long they'd been talking. "Guess time really does fly."

There were things that she wished that she could say to make things better for him. She couldn't think of the right words and she didn't feel like it was her place. Maybe it would one day be, but not yet. She wished that she could take the pain away of what he felt over losing the women in his life. There were some hurts that only time could heal but the thought that she wanted to do that for him was still there.

"That means a lot to me." The fact that he thought that she deserved better maybe gave her a tiny glimpse that maybe she did. "You're stuck with me now, y'know." She grinned at him and squeezed his hand gently one more time before letting him go.

Standing up she stretched. "Yeah, it does. Also, I think my butt fell asleep." She took his hand and pulled him up. Impulsively she gave him a hug. "Thanks for coming over and spending the night with me. Maybe we can do it again?"

Having someone that cared enough to want to make things better meant a lot, whether it was spoken or not, especially when you hadn't known one another very long. Already he did wish he could improve Solvei's predicament, with all the powers of Ion, it still wasn't possible. He didn't have the ability to make Dean remember her, just as she didn't have the power to bring back his loved ones. They could only deal with what they had, which was each other, and it would be enough.

"Funny thing? I really don't mind being stuck with you. Not in the slightest." It just meant that they were going to be spending more time together, which had really been his goal, and maybe he'd be able to help her move on from the problems that she ha been facing. Already he could feel himself filling with hope again. Of course lack of confidence had never really been one of his short comings, and he couldn't really remember being at a loss of words very often either.

Kyle took the hand that was offered to him, letting her pull him up, and almost immediately into a hug. His own arms wrapped around her small frame, giving her a slight squeeze before releasing, feeling much better already. "Couldn't imagine a better way to spend my night. I'd love to."
