Where: Her house.. uh.. probably .. space house now

Pepper was pacing back and forth just as nervously as ever. Sure there was this whole thing in the future, but really she was more worried that she'd made a mistake. That he really was just Tony trying to be funny and get her to see him. She wanted to trust him, really she did, but after he'd not gone away the last time she told him and the whole stairs thing happened, she didn't know if she wanted to deal with it.

But it was too late for that now, he was on his way there. And so she waited impatiently for him to show up. She really hoped this wouldn't be as crap as the last time. She wasn't quite sure she'd handle this if it was all just a ploy.

	Licking her lips self consciously, she saw the look in his eyes but didn't know if he meant it. Sure, Tony Stark was always jealous when she was out with other men. "How do you think I mean?.." she rubbed the back of her neck. "Yes, we've had sex.. that doesn't make it some kind of relationship.." even if the other Tony's daughter had said so. "Well, I'm an expert at that one. Sex usually doesn't mean a relationship. It's just sex." Tony folded his arms across his chest as he let this information sink in. She really wasn't his Pepper after all. "Hope he was good and not a bunch of hocus pocus in the sack. I always figured him for a light show in the sack." And maybe that was why he didn't have children or keep his wife happy.

	Well at least he believed her about it being just sex. She frowned though, "That's something I'm not going to tell you about.. but, there was no light show.. thank you.." she didn't know why she needed to defend him, maybe she was just trying to defend her choices. He was actually surprised to hear Pepper give even that much insight to a trip to the bedroom. "He was a replacement, wasn't he?" he asked her bluntly. Pepper Potts did not just fall in bed with someone, even if she did know Stephen Strange. It'd taken her a while before she'd ever even ended up with Happy Hogan, rest his soul. "I just want to know why you were so angry, Pep. It takes a lot for you to get that riled up, and it's usually my fault." He knew the reason why. Because she didn't have him all to herself any more. But he wanted to hear her admit this herself.

Her lips pressed together and it was obvious that she wasn't very happy about him being blunt like that. Or that he was asking these questions. There wasn't quite a frown there, but she was obviously annoyed, "This sort of thing is the reason you got pushed down the stairs.." she warned, and that was it really. "You know why I was angry, and if you can't figure it out then.. I'm warning you.. drop it."

"And this is why I'm not standing on a flight of them right now. You can't push me down to the ground," at least not unless she clubbed his ass over the head with something first. This version of him was way stronger than the other. "After all this time, Pepper, and you still can't say it." He was surprised she even admitted it to herself let alone reacted the way she had.

"Want to bet? You've still got a ways between your ass and the floor," she told him. This time she frowned at him, "Shut up okay? I don't want to do this. I don't want to talk about this. So you can either shut up and change the subject and not bring it up again, or you can get out.." ah yes this was the reason she was totally annoyed. Because he kept doing things like this.

"That's if you can manage to put me on the floor, and I hate to break it to you, but that won't happen. But fine, if you want to ignore how you've always felt about me, then be my guest." He'd taken to leaning against a nearby chair, his arms crossed so his fingers drummed against his biceps. He also doubted she had anything that could make him leave this house except under his own volition. Future world or not, his armor was very bleeding edge technology.

"You'll never change. No matter if you stop drinking, or what kind of armor you have on, you always think it's always about you. Yeah I want to ignore it, because it's just another reason to inflate your stupid ego. This is the same damn thing that happened last time and I'm not going through it again.. you can leave," she pointed to the door even if he was sitting down.

What I want to know is what has gotten under your skin so much that it's taking five minutes for you to get this look on your face like you want to punch a hole in my head. If there's something you want or need to say to me, then here I am. I'm not going to leave because you pointed a finger at me to get out. Just give me a headstart to put the body suit back on so I can at least defend myself against any cannons that might drop from the ceiling to fire on me, because I'm not going anywhere until you tell me." He didn't need his ego inflated. Tony Stark was capable of that on his own, but it was like whatever approval or disapproval she had for him right now just had to be squared away or they were never going to move past this. "Just trust me to do the right thing. Is that too much to ask? I used to never have to ask you to trust me. You used to do it without a thought."

Oh please, like she was going to believe that. "You! You get under my skin and make me this way, Jesus Christ, I told you to drop it but you never EVER listen to me do you? Every time I ask, I beg for you to not do something, or to leave something alone you just don't do it. You never do the work I set out for you, you never go to the appointments I scheduled for you, you were never on time, and now yet again when I ask you to drop something. I even asked NICELY you just won't fucking do it. God I am so fucking sick of you not listening to me. Why the hell should I trust you when you never EVER listen to me or do as I ask? I always do what you ask, but not anymore. I don't work for you. I'm done having to answer because you think it's necessary.. not about you my ass.." she turned around and walked up the stairs towards her room this time, not caring whether he came or went.

He blinked for a moment, trying to digest every last word she'd all but spit at him. Actually, he figured she might have punctuated all of it with her spitting in his face at this point.

He'd waited until he heard a door slam upstairs before he followed her. He wasn't about to give her the chance to have a repeat performance of the stair thing. He took a deep breath and exhaled, sighing as he shook his head. When he got upstairs, he just stood outside of her room for a moment before he tested the doorknob, checking to see if she'd locked him out. When he found it open, he cracked it and poked his head inside to see where she was.

	Whether she had just forgotten to lock the door or whether she had just done it on purpose remained to be seen. Hearing the door open, she was sitting on her bed with her back towards him but knew it was him of course. Her fingers tightened on the sheets, "Go. Away." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"No," he answered flatly and entered the room fully, shutting the door behind him and pressed against it as he watched her posture. "I'm not going anywhere." Of course he wasn't going to listen to her. He never did, she didn't know why she thought a big speech would at least let him catch on and stop bugging her. She shut her eyes and slowly got up from her bed. If he wasn't going to go then she was, because she wasn't going to deal with this. She just had to figure out how to get out with him blocking the door. "Please leave? I'm asking... very nicely for you to just go." she moved slowly towards him but didn't make a move to run for it or anything, at least not yet.

"If I leave right now, if I walk out of this house, will you ever talk to me again? Because for some reason, I have this nagging doubt you will. Like if I walk out of here then I will lose you forever, and I don't think I could take that." Tony couldn't get his legs to move, to step away from the door to give her an exit. He just leaned against it, a look in his eyes not of defiance of her request, but more like he really cared, that it hurt she was this torn up because of him.

"See that's what you think, but you're wrong. Y'know if you just said 'okay Pepper, I understand' and then left like I asked and given me time.. eventually I'd stop being so upset.. but no.. you gotta force yourself in all the time, because you know best," she told him firmly, not exactly yelling, but not exactly nice about it either. Her eyes gazed over at the door and then back to him. "I don't know what you want from me except what I can't give you."

"And that's where you're wrong, Pepper. You've already given me the only thing I ever wanted from you. Love and trust," he said, ticking the two items off with his fingers. He then pushed off of the door and opened it, exiting it without saying another word to her. He had to go downstairs and change back into the suit to leave, so that was what he was going to do. He'd worn out any sort of welcome he'd had here for now.

Ugh he just had to make things impossible didn't he? She growled in frustration under her breath and ran her hand over her face. She followed him out of the room though didn't go down the stairs, "I love you.. is that what you want me to say? It doesn't matter, Tony.. you still broke my heart and left me alone.. he did.. and I can't just get over that. That's why. Is that good enough for you? You ripped my heart open and I've been trying to get over it but you keep showing up and nagging at me instead of just letting me go on."

He'd barely gotten to the bottom of the stairs before he heard those three little words, and he almost lost his footing from it. Funny how a man so graceful and lithe could almost be sent hurtling down five stairs because of that. He turned around at the bottom and stared up at her, hands gripping the railings of the staircase. "You loving me or me loving you does matter. I won't leave you, Pepper. You'll never have to be alone anymore. I'm sorry he, I, whatever broke your heart, and I know I radically suck at this 'share my feelings' thing. You were always better with that."

If it had been another time she probably would have giggled at the fact that he had lost his footing. But now she was just waiting and watching. "You say you won't.. you told me that before and then I got here and you were married.." she shook her head. "I can't do all of that again. I won't.. just sit around and wait for.. whatever. Another woman, or you moving on .. or anything else. And you can't tell me that won't ever happen because before.. I never thought it would and it did.."

He'd been making his way up the stairs towards her again, not because he was daring her to knock him down them, but because he wanted to look into her eyes. "Maybe he had waited for you and there was no sign of you or that you may never show up here. Who knows. I'm not about to try and figure out the motives. I'm standing right here, Pepper, and I'm reaching out for you. To save you from drowning in whatever pain you're in because I'm not going to abandon you. I may not be your Tony, but I am the one who's here for you."

She noticed that he was getting closer to her, but she didn't move from the top of the stairs. And no, she wasn't going to push him down it. "I don't mean to make you pay for it, but I can't ... I can't work on it if.." she trailed off because it was hopeless to try and explain. He was going to do whatever he liked. When he was close enough, she reached forward for him, putting her hand against his chest but made sure that she didn't act like she was going to push him. "You'd better not.. I can't take that again. Don't make promises you're not intending to keep."

Pepper swallowed and when he looked down at her lips, she licked them subconsciously. They were indeed very close, and her heart was probably beating just as fast as his was. "You.. you can stay.." she finally said quietly. Her hand ran over his chest a little, not really aware of what she was doing, just that she kept thinking about how much she wanted to kiss him.
