Knowing that Navi had picked out the perfect pet for the two of them really came at no surprise. She had that quality about her, something that didn't have a name, but definitely existed. With one look, or just a smile, sbe could completely change a situation. If there was real darkness in the world, then she was the light, the brightest there had ever been. She just made everything feel perfect. That was her magic. And it could be applied to picking out pets. She had a brilliant mind, of course, but more than that she just knew. After looking at the picture, Alec was sure she was right, and now he was looking forward to coming home even more than usual, which was quite a bit.

Home. That's right. They lived together now, everything was settled into the apartment that they shared, and it had instantly became the home he imagined it always would be. Going to sleep with her in his arms, waking up to the sight of her, it was like a dream come true. A dream he enver realized he had, but a dream nonetheless, and things couldn't get better. He'd just finished up some lessons at the gym and was in the process of cleaning up. A quick shower, just enough to rinse the sweat off, and a change into clean clothing. He was saying bye to everyone as he was jogging across the mats and making his way to the door. No time to spare, as far as he was concerned. His trusty means of transporation, the bike, was waiting for him outside. He'd already figured out a short cut to getting home, it happened when you went back and forth every day, and it wasn't any time before he was parking at the apartment complex.

The stairs all the way up to their aparment were even't a hastle anymore, especially when he was in such a good mood, he took them two at a time with a smile on his lips. She was already home, so he left his keys in his pockets and stepped inside, not being able to help but grin that much more. "Baby? Not hiding, are you?" Oh, she loved that, didn't she? One time he'd come home and she had almost scared him to death. Of course the way she giggled afterwards, he couldn't help but laugh.

"He's lucky," Navi beamed, leaning in to kiss him on the forehead. It was a weird thing to know that she hadn't been whole before, to know that she'd always been missing part of herself, her soul. But being with Alec had brought that into light, and she smiled, leaning into his touch.

She squeezed the hand she was stroking, nodding. "You certainly can last a long time," she murmured, winking at him. "And well, even if I'm not your manager, I guess I'm your motivation?" She laughed and kissed him, knowing full well that he knew what his prize would be for winning.

When they turned a corner, Navi knew they were getting closer. She bounced in her seat, moving her purse so it was closer to her body. She felt her heart pounding, and she was so happy she thought she might burst. The taxi slowed to a stop and she handed the driver money, waiting for Alec to exit.

"Very lucky. I don't mind spoiling him at all." Especially when it came to buying their ferret toys and other things to play with. Alec even knew you could take them walking, but he wasn't sure how well they were going to respond to that, it was something they'd all find out together.

He laughed a little, giving her hand a small squeeze. "You give me plenty of cardio work outs." Alec figured he'd let the fight go into the second round and then try and end it there. He was even planning something pretty spectacular, but he was going to wait for her t see it, rather than explain. "Closest thing I have to a manager, and definitely my motivation." He had coaches, of course, and he was a quick learner.

He could feel her bouncing in the seat next to him, and he knew exactly why, which made him grin. After they had turned the corner, he could see the shelter and he turned his head to look at her. She really was glowing, even if she didn't realize it. He moved out of the taxi right after she had, knowing that she wasn't going to be able to wait.

"You ready?" He teased, already knowing that she was.

"You love spoiling him already, silly." Navi had seen how excited Alec had been to go shopping for pet toys, and it warmed her heart to think of. She grinned, remembering how he'd picked up as many toys off of the shelf as she had.

"I do! I'm a rigorous trainer! Barely a minute's rest!" Navi giggled, squeezing his hand in return. She kissed him on the cheek, stroking his hair. Watching him fight was one of her fondest memories of their first date. She felt a certain swelling of pride when he was in the ring. The gorgeous, golden, perfect creature in the ring, the one with all the feline grace and power - that was hers. Beyond the posessive, Alec was fantastic at what he did. He wasn't a smalltime fighter, he was a Hero, even if he didn't think so. Navi had some experience with that, and she knew so.

When they were at the steps of the shelter, Navi swallowed nervously before taking his hand and walking in. "I'm ready." She bit her lip and opened one of the heavy swinging doors. The shelter smelled of pets and cleaner, but not unpleasantly so. She approached the desk and asked to be taken to the ferret rescues that she'd read about online. Obviously Navi had called, and the woman smiled brightly, leading Navi and Alec to a room where they could sit with the ferret.

"Guilty as charged." Alec admitted with a bright smile. It was really the first thing that he was ever going to have to take care of. That didn't mean he didn't spoil Navi and do everything he could to make sure she was happy, but she could take care of herself too. This was a new responsibility for both of them.

"You're right about that. You always keep the workouts intense. And get my technique down." He loved the fact that she could be so playful with him, it was one of the reasons they were so perfect together, there were plenty more, but that definitely was one.

They were standing outside the shelter now, and his heart was beating fast, hand holding onto her own. "Big step for us." He told her softly before he followed her inside. It smelled like animals, but it wasn't a bad thing, definitely new as far as he had experienced. It was different, but he liked it. He stood behind Navi with a smile on his lips as she talked to the woman. Then they were led into a room, he knew they were going to bring one of the ferrets to them.

"I can't wait."

"Well, it's going to love you too, so that's a good thing," Navi smiled. She ran her fingers through his hair, unable to put into words that she loved how excited Alec was about taking care of the ferret as much as she was.

"Well, your technique is fantastic. Have to keep it at peak performance," she grinned. She was trying not to laugh to keep up the game, but she had to put a hand over her mouth to keep up the pretense.

Outside the shelter, she tiptoed up to kiss him. "Big step, but we both want it and we're excited. We'll be great ferretparents, and you know it." She squeezed his hand, glad he was nervous too.

Inside the Ferret Room, she bounced a little bit, nervous, but the woman returned with a tiny bundle of wiggly fur. It had a mask, and was white with grey stripes, and wanted to be out of the woman's arms. Navi stood up to take the animal from the woman, giggling when it started to sniff her.

When they were sitting inside the small room together, he was still holding her hand within his own, barely able to contain his own excitement. This was big, for the both of them, and each second that ticked by felt like an eternity. He knew she was feeling just the same way that he was. His boot was tapping the ground lightly as he waited, and when he could hear the woman's approaching footsteps, he gave Navi's hand a small squeeze.

Once the other woman stepped into the room, he immediately looked at what she was holding in her arms, lips splitting into a grin. The ferret was poking his head up and looking at the two of them. It was furry, slinky, had a mask, and grey stripes. It was definitely a curious creature and Alec couldn't believe that they were going to have one.

Once it had been handed to Navi, he stood up beside her, looking down at the ferret, which was busy sniffing her. He raised his hand up very slowly and reached out, making sure to take his time, not wanting to scare the small creature. Once he was sure it was okay with his presence, he slid his fingertips over it's back, grinning like a kid on christmas morning.

	Navi's heart was already swelling with love for the tiny furry thing, and all it had done was press itself against her chest and sniff her head. When Alec reached out to pet it, Navi blinked. "Is it... laughing?" She grinned and giggled at the approving noises the ferret was making, handing it off to Alec. "I think someone liiiiiikes you," she teased. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Alec had never even really been around animals at all to be honest. They'd never seen anything like them at Manticore that hadn't been some kind of an experiment. His eyes were open slightly wide as he looked at the furry bundle in Navi's arms, still smiling so much that he thought his cheeks were surely going to hurt.

"Either that or it's really happy." It was making happy sounding noises and moving it's head up and down. He took the ferret from Navi, holding it in his arms, lightly stroking it's back. "He's definitely got personality."

Any animal that was so happy to be held by her and Alec that it made noises that sounded close to human laughter had to be theirs. While Alec held it, she talked to the woman at the counter about care, feeding, bathing, everything they'd need to know. She winked at Alec and went to the lobby to sign papers, as well as purchase a cage to carry him home in, and a couple of books to read. Navi was big on books about things.

When she returned to the area, cage in hand, she couldn't help giggling. "How're my boys?" She moved to kiss Alec on the cheek, laughing when the ferret sniffed them inquisitively.

There wasn't any doubt that they had made the right choice in what kind of animal to get once he'd been allowed to hold the ferret. It was furry, curious, and soft. The happy noises it made only added to the whole package. That and it responded well to both of them. There wasn't any way he was going to leave without it. When he saw Navi wink he gave a small nod of his head, knowing what she was going to do.

By the time she got back, he was sitting on the floor, playing with the ferret, knowing that he must look like a little kid. "We're great. Especially now that you're here." He could see the books in her hands, a long with the cage. She loved to read and do research, which he was glad, because they needed to know how to take care of him.

"What..what about Moxie? Or Bandit? Or..um..Ace...Turbo.." Alec looked up at her, trying to pick a name, still playing with the ferret.

Navi couldn't help but glow a bit when she saw Alec on the floor with the ferret. It was possibly the cutest thing she'd seen in her entire life, in any universe. She plopped down on the floor and opened the cage, giggling.

"Turbo works for me. I mean, c'mon, you can barely keep up with him." She giggled and tried to pet the furry bundle, laughing when he bounced way and then "attacked" her fingers.

Alec hadn't really expected to become attached to the ferret so quickly, but he was, especially when he was sitting on the floor, watching the way the small creature responded to everything. It was curious and fun to be around. He could see the smile on her lips and turned his head to look at her when she was sitting next, hearing her soft giggle.

"You have a point. He's a little bundle of energy." It made him laugh when he saw the ferret playing with Navi, bouncing back and forth on the floor before pouncing, though it obviously wasn't trying to hurt her.

"Well, c'mon, Turbo, get in your cage." Navi looked around the Ferret Room and spied a bag of treats. She took one out and went back to the cage, popping it in. Turbo poinged into the cage and Navi shut it, grinning at Alec.'

"You ready to go home and build stuff?" She giggled, hefting the cage. Turbo was pretty light, so she didn't mind. "I already paid for him and everything."

Alec was just as fascinated with watching Turbo as he was with playing with him. He had pushed himself up to a standing position as Navi managed to get their new pet into it's carrier cage, using a treat to do so. She was smiling too. He didn't think either of them were going to stop soon.

"I'm definitely ready." He was kind of excited about building the three tier cage they'd bought for Turbo. Setting up the food and water dishes, all the toys, the hammock. He wanted to make sure it really was like a miniature home. "That means he's ours." Alec cupped Navi's face in his hands and then kissed her softly before taking the books from her, since she was going to be carrying the cage.

Navi laughed as he wiggled around in the cage. She was excited too, to go home and watch him get used to things, to explore. Having a life with Alec was one blessing she never thought she'd get, but to take care of a little ball of curiosity and cuteness on top of that, it made her want to go flying. She resisted the urge, and instead purred a bit as Alec kissed her.

They went outside and got another taxi, grinning and reassuring the driver that she wouldn't let the ferret out. She moved the cage so Alec could stick his fingers through the wire mesh. "He really likes you," she grinned, leaning her head on Alec's shoulder. "It's adorable."

This was the kind of life that he hadn't really ever thought could exist. He had a girlfriend that he was absolutely crazy about, loved with all his heart, and planned to spend the rest of his life with. Add to that, they'd just adopted a pet, once that definitely fit both of their personalities. It was just a really different feeling. Being this happy and excited. He hadn't ever imagined anything like it before.

Once they were inside the cab, he scooted as close to Navi as he could, setting the books down beside him. He did end up putting his fingers through the wire mesh, letting Turbo nibble when he felt like it, playing with him in that way. "Think it's 'cause he knows how happy we are." Maybe animals really could sense that kind of thing, he didn't know. "This is just...great."

Navi couldn't help laughing, even when they were in the cab. She watched as Turbo nibbled Alec's fingers playfully, grinning and moving to kiss him. "Animals can sense things like fear, why not happy? And I really think all the animals there that get adopted know how lucky they are." She thought about animals being put to sleep for a brief moment and shuddered.

But not Turbo, and not Alec. Ever. They had her, and they had each other. They were a family, and they were going to look out for each other forever, and it made Navi grin.

Once the cab had pulled up to the apartment, she paid the driver and scooted out after Alec. She carefully flew Turbo up the stairs as to not jostle his cage too much, and she waited for Alec to unlock the door. "Should we let him out after you build the cage?"

There was no pain involved when Turbo was nibbling his fingers, it tickled if anything, and he knew that the little ferret was just playing. "Hope so. Want him to know how happy we are to take him home with us." He hadn't ever figured he'd get attached to an animal like this, but he was, even if they had barely adopted him. The thought of leaving him in the shelter was just a little too much. He didn't want to think about it.

He knew a lot of the reason why it was so special was because of Navi. When she was happy, he was happy, and there was plenty of that going around at the moment. She was the reason behind all of this, even if she didn't realize it, and he was gad to have her.

He grabbed the books and slid out of the cab, glancing back at Navi, grinning that much more when she flew up the stairs, carrying the cage with her. He made the journey a quick one and unlocked the door, stepping into their apartment with her. "We should...I think he'll want to explore. We can ferret proof everything so he can run around." Of course he was already opening the box that the cage was in, eager to get it put together.

Without Alec, Navi wouldn't sleep as well, laugh as much, or have a pet to love. She wouldn't have a human to love, and for that, she owed him a lot.

She grinned as she flew up the stairs, and moved inside, flopping down on the floor with Turbo to watch Alec put the cage together. She took one of the books from Alec's arms as he passed, and nodded. "Okay. Childproof locks, bought those." She went to her room to put the plastic things on the cabinets. They didn't have any foam, or rocking chairs, or anything that folded out, so she ticked it off of her list.

Navi went to kiss Alec as she proceeded to doublecheck that there were no holes in the air conditioning or heating that the ferret could crawl into. Upon deeming the apartment clear, she scattered a few toys around from their shopping bags and let Turbo out.

If there was anyone that was going to be able to make sure that the apartment was ferret proof, at least as far as the animal getting into things he shouldn't, it was going to be Navi. She learned things really quick, especially when she read them, and he knew that she was always thorough. He grinned a little when she took one of the book's she'd bought and started to do the research he knew she would.

Assembling the cage was fairly easy, it was big, of course, but that didn't make it hard. He pieced it all together, sliding things into place, making sure that the door would latch shut. Of course he wasn't done yet. He set up the food and water dishes, filling both of them up, an then put the hammock in what he thought would be a good position. There were multi-colored tubes and other things inside that should keep Turbo interested. Not to mention some bedding on the bottom.

He tilted his head and kissed her back softly. By the time that he had finished, she had already scattered toys around on the floor and let Turbo out of the carrier cage. He grinned and sat down on the floor near her. "He should be happy. He has a palace, as far as ferret housing goes."

Navi grinned as Turbo scrambled headfirst into a crinkly purple ball and batted it around like a ferret possessed. "Well, he also has us to snuggle onto. I know you're comfy." To illustrate, Navi sat down on Alec''s lap, letting her hair out of its ponytail and relaxing.

"We just have to be careful whenever we open or close stuff now. I got all the little places he could go, but now we just have to make sure he's not in our clothes when we put them in the laundry, or that he's not in the washer or whatnot. Stuff like that."

They were various toys for Turbo scattered across their living room, a large selection of what they'd bought at the pet shop earlier, and he laughed a little when the ferret pounced the purple ball, knocking it around at will. "True. And I know how much he's going to love it when you hold him." He wrapped one arm around Navi when she sat on his lap, pulling her in close, smirking a little when she let her hair down.

"I know. Make sure he doesn't crawl under the fridge...everything. We'll be careful, won't let anything happen to him." He kissed her neck softly before he stretched his foot out to push one of the stuffed mice towards Turbo, watching the ferret spin around to look at it.

She couldn't help laughing at Turbo freaking out about the mice, moving and putting Alec's arms around her hips. She kissed his neck, beaming. "He seems so happy," she murmured, referring both to Turbo as well as Alec.

Navi poked Turbo in the rear with a toe, giggling when he eepd and pounced on her toes, mock attacking them. "This is... I don't know how I could be happier."

Alec willingly slid his arms around her hips when she shifted slightly, bright smile still on his lips, eyes watching their new pet. "Hard not to be happy when you're around." Turbo was pouncing on the stuffed mouse which was an amusing sight, to say the least.

He pulled her a little closer when her toes were being attacked, laughing a little to himself. "I don't know if it's possible to be happier than this."
