Colin was nervous and scared and had purposefully left Hector at home. He'd looked. He wanted to have pictures of Justin again now that Justin was free. But looking only made him see and seeing hadn't been happy this time. He'd never seen Justin look that way. Not even when he was sad about something that happened. He didn't want to see anything right now. He wanted to close his eyes and pretend nothing was going to ever be wrong again and that Peter Pan existed. He could be a lost boy and stay forever and never grow up again.
Only Peter Pan was just a story and the lost boys weren't real and there was no way to stop growing up. That had to be the most upsetting thing about growing up: realizing that all the things you believed in as a child weren't actually real.
All that aside, Colin knew he had to talk to Zach. If he made Zach look that way, too, it would have been the worst thing he'd ever done. Maybe Zach had it wrong and it was that he was the one that wasn't good enough for Zach or Justin and not the other way around. He didn't like all this negativity. He didn't like that he was thinking this way because this wasn't how he used to think.
For the first time in a while, Colin didn't tell anyone where he was going. He just left a note (very much like he had with his parents) that read "I'm going out. There's something I have to do. Don't know when I'll be back." Then he left. He apparated, making sure he would end up right outside Zach's door. He waited a moment for the wards to recognize him before slipping inside. "Zach?" At least he could announce his presence somehow. Even if he didn't think he sounded very much like Colin right now.
