Who: Parvati Patil and Mikael Harper
What: The 'happy' couple talk. And one tries not to murder the other.
Where: Charing Cross Station
When: Thursday June 20th
Rating: E
Status: Closed/Complete

Parvati had not been lying when she said she was ready for an arranged marriage. It was just a different type she had expected. She had hoped her parents would beat the Ministry in finding her somebody, but she realised too late she had been way too picky. So now she was stuck with a guy who took longer doing his hair than she did. He was grouchy and egotistical. The worst part was that her parents would die when they found out. Their dreams of a nice Indian wedding would be forever squashed.

To say she was angry was an understatement. In retrospect Parvati had not accepted the announcement as gracefully as she could have. Mikael was probably taking that better than her. Still, she was disappointed. He brought out the worst in her. She just wanted to annoy him every time they spoke. Not to mention he had called her a girly girl.

After takling the longest shower in history to calm down, Parvati found herself calmed down enough to face her-she couldn't even really think the word. She threw on a random outfit and hurried to Charing Cross Station, not looking forward to dinner at all.

"No." It was an easy lie. Since he was a little late she had managed to calm down more and was finally finished pacing around. Parvati tucked her hands in her back pockets and tried to look everywhere but at him.

"You mentioned dinner?" She wasn't really hungry, but she figured it'd be better than staying out and talking in front of strangers.

"Good," Mikael nodded absently-minded.

"Oh, dinner, yes. Follow me." The restaurant wasn't too far away, so it was only a brief walk, still to Mikael it seemed like the longest walk in his life.

"So you haven't murdered me on the spot, nor do I see any weapons on you. Is that a somewhat good sign?"

"I'm not the knife wielding type. No, if I kill you it'll be made to look entirely like an accident. Maybe poison." Parvati forced a smile and light tone. Since her anger and annoyance had faded she wasn't sure what to feel now. She definitely was not happy though.

As soon as they entered the restaurant Parvati was glad it seemed moderately busy. At least life went on as normal for other people, if not her and the idiot with her.

"So your secret plan is to turn me into Mad-Eye Moody and not trust anyone with me drinks?" Mikael asked with a wonky grin.

Once they had been led to a table Mikael pulled out the chair for Parvati before he sat down, resisting the urge to fidget. Remembering why he had been late he pulled out an unimposing black jewellery box, holding a necklace that cost probably more than others earned in six months.

"See it as a kind of peace offering."

Parvati gave Mikael a curious look as she took the box, opening it and gasping. "There is no way I can take this. Are you mad?" It was gorgeous. Parvati shut the box quickly and pushed it across the table at him. "Thank you, but I can't take it."

Why was he being so nice? Didn't he hate the idea of being forced into a marriage? As soon as the waiter arrived Parvati smiled and ordered a virgin strawberry daiquiri. Those were so good. Once they had ordered their drinks, Parvati found herself looking at the table, tracing the outline of her fork with the tip of her nail. "I'm sorry for earlier."

"Of course you can take it," Mikael pushed the box back at her. "I've bought it for you, so you can take it. I can't very well wear it. I mean it would go with some of my clothes but diamonds are just not my thing," He winked, looking up when the waiter came to take their orders. Ordering a glass of red wine he leaned back in his chair, watching Parvati.

"No worries. This is all rather...weird, so I guess our reactions to it have to be weird as well."

Parvati rolled her eyes. There was that ego she disliked so much. She glared at the box then smiled at the waiter when he arrived with their drinks. Maybe if she ignored the box it would disappear. She did not even want to think of what he spent on it.

"So... I take it your mother already knows about your marriage?" She couldn't bring herself to say our. "What's she like?"

"She does. She's been waiting for this for...well, years as she likes to tell me at every chance possible. I think she's over the moon because I'm finally getting married," Mikael sighed, not even wanting to know how many owls from his mother were waiting for him at home.

"She's...well nice, but sometimes a little too enthusiastic, overprotective and so on." Mikael took a sip of wine, staring absently-minded at the red liquid.

"How about your parents?"

"Loving, wonderful, overbearing." Parvati smiled slightly as she used her straw to stir the frozen drink. "My parents have been waiting forever to get me married. Since leaving school I think I've had them throw a few dozen men at me. I refused them all." She smirked and lifted the straw to lick the frozen ice off the bottom.

"Actually, the men all thought they would not be able to sustain my shopping expenses. Anyways, my father will most likely hate you. My mother, upon finding out, will probably faint or act like she is going to. After all, they only want a nice Indian boy with a good job, plenty of family, and so on. Preferably muggle." Parvati puckered her lips, realising for the first time she never did want any of those things. Well, maybe the good job bit. She did need money for shopping after all.

Mikael actually laughed and shook his head.

"I know that from somewhere. Have you ever had old ladies shove pictures of their wonderful daughters into your face? I used to tell them all kinds of bullshit to get them off my neck. Always worked so far," He smirked, taking another drink.

"Well, I am sure to your utter disappointment I have to tell you that I like shopping. Let's see. I have a good and well paid job, I can be nice though I am definitely not Indian or muggle. I have plenty of family, but believe me, you don't want to meet them. Think they can overlook that tiny little details?"

"They're not going to have a choice, are they? They might have been able to look over the Indian bit, but the muggle is one my parents really like. I think they're afraid since they aren't familiar with the wizarding world. I'm not even allowed to do magic at home." Parvati smirked and continued to play with her drink.

"You have no idea how disappointed I am that you enjoy shopping. That means using you as a packmule is out of the picture."

"Well, we'll just keep that up then. No magic or wizarding stuff when your parents are near. They can at least pretend I am muggle then," Mikael suggested, finishing his glass of wine.

"You would've really enjoyed that, wouldn't you? If it helps you somehow, normally my family has their stuff delivered and if that isn't enough I can always buy you a packmule."

"The fun part is where I watch you suffer." Despite the words, Parvati found herself smiling. She would find some other way to make him suffer. Like wake him up early every day. "And you don't need to act a muggle for my parents. They'll never be able to pretend you're one when they already know what the Ministry is doing. Speaking of which... We don't really have to do this, do we?"

"I'm suffering every morning when I am trying to tame my hair," Mikael resisted the urge to stick out his tongue.

"Fear we do. I checked all the documents and whatnot and what they are doing is completely legal. Not one tiny way out, Kingsley's made sure of that. Otherwise I'd be in court arguing this already, but alas," He shrugged a little helplessly, motioning for the waiter to bring him another glass of wine.

Parvati sighed, drinking more of the daiquiri fast enough to give her a slight brain freeze. "I really don't like this." So running away was not an option. She'd just become forced into another couple when she was caught. Or sent straight to Azkaban.

"I guess you're going to be my-my..." Parvati frowned. "I can't say it. Oh well. Think your mother will at least let me have control over the wedding? I'm not wearing white."

"No one of us really likes this, I guess we'll just have to try and make the best out of it." Mikael mumbled, thanking the waiter when he brought over the wine.

"Definitely. She'll be worshipping you anyway and try to fulfil your every wish for the wedding, so no worries. I think she's just so happy that I am getting married at all that she wants to be involved."

"See, now that you've said it like that I have to wonder if you're either gay or some kind of party boy. Or maybe both." Parvati teased, finishing her daiquiri and ordering another while the waiter was still near. So much for dinner. She wasn't hungry anyways.

"You realise you're doomed, right? I'm going to make your life hell."

"Bisexual and a party boy," Mikael replied cheerfully, finally relaxing more in his chair.

"Would've expected nothing less of you," He added, still smiling. Putting his glass back down he frowned lightly.

"You hungry? Totally forgot about that."

"Figures." Parvati smirked, rolling her eyes. She was content enough with her drink so she simply shrugged. "I'm not really hungry. Feel free to order whatever you want, but I only came here to talk. At least we have a week or so to plan the wedding. By we I mean me and your mother. Unless you have some sort of input." Getting an idea, Parvati smirked. "I can not wait until you see what you're wearing for the wedding." She was already plotting.

"No, I'm not really hungry either. For once I actually got a lunch break today," Mikael shrugged.

"Week should do, yes. No input from my side although we should go and buy rings together, I think." Raising an eyebrow Mikael frowned. Parvati's smirk was unsettling.

"What? I thought I'd wear a tux or something."

"Oh no, you are most certainly not wearing a tux. I will get the wedding my parents wanted. Even if the groom isn't up to par." Parvati's smirk was wide as she traced the rip of her cup with her fingernail. She would have fun with this. "I suppose we should buy rings together. I'll also have to take you somewhere for your outfit so they can take your measurements."

Now this really wasn't good. At all.

"Well, if it'll make your parents happy," Mikael finally replied, although a bit cautiously.

"Will you at least tell me what this...whatever I have to wear looks like beforehand or will it be a wonderful wedding surprise?"

If making all guys nervous was as satisfying as making Mikael nervous then Parvati would have had a different attitude earlier in life. She smiled, shaking her head. "I suppose it would be fair to let you see it beforehand. If you're well behaved then I may just let you."

She may just like this wedding after all. The marriage she would hate, but the wedding would be worth it.

"I am always well behaved," Mikael pouted, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

"And you'd know that I am well behaved if you'd know me and would stop seeing me through this tainted veil of hate. Well...okay, I am not always well behaved, but most of the times."

"'Tainted veil of hate'? I don't hate you. I just don't like you. You are aggravating and too full of yourself. It's not normal." Parvati smiled as even now she was trying to figure out the best colour shwerwani for him.

"You know, I think this wedding is going to be the best ever." She smirked a little, now happy for the first time since getting the owl.
