Rose found her way to the Leaky Cauldron at a quarter til one, hair askew and clothes dusty. She paused a moment in the doorway to redo her ponytail and brush off her shirt and jeans before finding a table in a corner.
It was a relief to sit down, even if her chair was a little wobbly. Rose had spent the first half of the morning in an awkward last breakfast at home, her mother keeping up a constant stream of advice and reminders while her father scowled at his eggs and reminded her to visit often. She wondered briefly how much more awkward the morning would have been if she'd told them anything about her assigned husband, but they likely wouldn't have let her leave the house (except possibly to flee the country) if she'd mentioned he had a child. And it wasn't something she wanted to discuss yet, not when her mind went into a screaming panic anytime her thoughts skittered across the idea and she hadn't even really talked with her fiance yet.
So Rose had spent the second half of the morning rearranging her meager collection of furniture in her new flat, trying to make her bedroom seem less tiny and the rest of the place less barren. It'd been a good distraction-- Rose had been dreaming of her own place since sixth year-- and she'd only noticed the time at half past noon. She'd apparated to a nearby alley, worried about the time, but Rose had managed to arrive early, leaving her entirely too much time to think.
Or it would have, had Rose not been as practical about avoiding unpleasant topics as she was in most of the rest of her life. Instead, she pulled out a book-- The Count of Monte Cristo, which she'd read before but had been the first thing she'd seen when she was heading out the door-- and settled down to wait.
