Well, I wasn't quite expecting that.

I'm wholly confused, I've a certain feeling that I'm not in the Carribean anymore. Actually, this seems quite like England, judging by weather.

In any case, I'm Bill Turner, and apparently I've become a curator at the museum of naval history in London...?

Mr. Turner, it has been quite sometime.

Long enough I don't remember, in fact!

Ah, my universe. You were part of my crew.

Was I? With the exception of miss Bonney, I don't remember sailing under a woman.

And I would've remembered a face like yours, even through the years.

That's because at the time, I was neither woman nor did I have face.

My name's The Flying Dutchman.

Pardon me while I wrap my mind around that.

Okay. Now let me put this as succinctly as I can without going entirely mad.
In my reality, it was a farce, I wasn't the one that sailed on you, it was my brother Robert.

And despite my fear of you due to it, you still are quite a lovely lady, here.

In my world, you served for years under my captain, Davy Jones. Eventually, Davy Jones was killed and William Turner, your son, became my captain and you continued to serve on board.

When I arrived here, Will no longer remembered me and I was suddenly human.

That's rather jarring.

And yes, that's also why I still dislike squid.

Will? Kill Davy Jones? Was Elizabeth involved?

Well, it's lovely to meet you as you are.

Do you have a name you go by other than Flying Dutchman?

It was more Captain Jack Sparrow, but William was dying. It was the only way to save him.

Not really, but I'm often called Dutch or Dutchman for short.

Dutch it is, and why am I not surprised Jack was involved?

I'm starting to miss him already.

I suppose you're in London, then, miss Dutch?

Jack was a good man. Many flaws, but good intentions I think. He almost was my captain, but he really always belonged to the Black Pearl.

And yes, I live in London.

She is, was, and always will be his one true love. And through his flaws, he has nothing but the best will towards good men. A good heart and a good man and a good pirate, always has been.

Lovely! We should meet up. I just had the wonderful opportunity to meet Will's wife, Elizabeth here. Hopefully I'll have enough distractions in way of people I know in some form or another, to keep my mind off of... well, things in general.

I generally find keep my mind off things useful as well. Just name a time and place and I;ll see if I can't get there.

Well, I'm not entirely familiar with modern London, but I'll get back to you when we all go out for a sit-down.

And I always asked what ships could say if they talked. Now that I've met one, I've no idea what I'd ask. Well, I'm sure I'll find something useful to ask, soon.

I wonder if the Pearl's shown up. She'd have stories I'd like to hear from her point of view.

Well, if you ever have a question, feel free to ask, but be careful as I will be entirely honest.

Pearl used to be here, for a time, but she left. I miss her a bit.

Seems that the only two entities I really ever knew have come and left, then.

I guess there's a couple questions. A.) I've heard the stories and saw for myself firsthand what happened to them while Jones was captain. Was the... whole...

barnacle thing your doing or Calypso's?

and B.) How's such a big, imposing ship become such a light and delicate looking woman? You inspired fear and awe, now you just inspire awe.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

A.) It was Calypso. I was as much a victim to Davy Jones' error as the crew. The extreme allegiance to the ship and the slow insanity, was however entirely me.

B.) I am not delicate. I have more strength in my 'light and delicate' arms as most men have in their whole bodies and I can very well hold my rum.

Besides, I believe that as a ship my main appeal other than the fact that I was clearly the fastest and best combat ship on the sea was the idea of death. For some reason, you humans are fascinated and yet terrified of death. And now as a human, I hold mortals fascination not by my connection with Death but by the beauty I've been granted here.

Human? That's...

Actually quite flattering you should say so, however, you've got me confused for a different Me.

I'm as much a human as you were, luv. And I'm taking that as a challenge. We'll see who holds their liquor more steadfastly, a ship-turned-human or a quasi-dead what's been practicing since the golden age. Even Jack had trouble keeping up with me, and you know the man and his rum.

But I'd never doubt your strength. You'll always be the most feared combatant in history, luv. I don't fear you or death.

Used to, but don't.

I don't want your fear, but don't underestimate me. Ship or not.

And I would argue that you are yet still more human than I as you were born one. I started as a tree. Or rather, a forest.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]deusexvampira
2008-03-01 03:05 am UTC (link)
Ah, but are you still a forest now? The point is this, one can start out one thing and wind up entirely different based on the experiences given to them. My experiences made me into a vampire, yours made you into a ship. And then a human. Though I'll never try to understand a ship's mind, only know that they've got one, and a soul to match.

Another question I'd actually have posed to Pearl, had she been here; Ships speak, don't they? They have their own language, but they speak. Pearl spoke to Jack, and the Freedom - the ship Jack had in more recent years was just gaining her voice. No doubt you spoke to Davy and to the damned crew. It's always been a belief of mine, I would just rather have it answered truthfully.

Forgive me if that sounds odd at all, or is just common knowledge. It's been a long while since I could separate between truth and opinion in matters of the unknown.

Everything speaks in it's own way, if only one would listen. I have had many thoughts since my birth and when I spoke to my captains, it was more feelings than words. Emotions for them to share with me, for them to understand if they cared too.

Aye, that's what I thought. Even I could tell when th'Pearl was unhappy, or joyous, or pained. She was rather vocal, in her own way. But then again, Jack was fond of speaking to her, as well. That may have helped things. She was like a mother to me. Protective of me just as much as her captain, I believe. I almost felt heartbroken when I left the crew for another the once.

You caused insanity in your crew? Why'd you do a thing like that, luv?

It was part of who I was. I wasn't just any ship. The longer they stayed on, the longer they feared and ran from death, the more they became a part of me and less of themselves.

That makes sense.

And, I may regret asking this... But you said I was a part of it.

How long? How long did I stay afraid of death, how long did I fear the end? I know myself well enough to know that I no longer fear death, but I did, and I did for a long while after my own.

Did I become a part of you?

(By the way, this is fascinating to me - to talk to a ship I so long wanted to know personally, but not so much as to step foot on. I'm simply enthralled. Thank you for answering my questions, Lady Dutchman, I'm so grateful for you being here. I'll likely write about this later, if you don't mind. I like to keep a journal of what I've seen and done, so that it isn't lost to the world.)

This is not a subject, I'd like to address but I promised to answer questions and so I shall. Better now then later. I will answer them one at a time.

How long? Many, many years.

How long did I stay afraid of death, how long did I fear the end? I'm not sure if you ever stopped fearing death, but eventually it didn't matter. You had a term to serve.

Did I become a part of you? For a time, yes. When William became captain, you became yourself again.

And, I do not mind if you write of this. I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of. I'm flattered by your enthusiasm.
