Superman. The name had taken some getting used to, but it was synonymous with his family's crest now. Clark supposed that there were worse names. His Kansas-bred sense of modesty simply thought that he didn't quite deserve the name. The things he did came easily to him. He did them because he felt he owed it to the people of Earth to use his abilities to help if he could. He didn't do it for the recognition or the celebration.
There was something else humming underneath. Aside from the name that Lois had given him, the people of Metropolis still didn't know what to make of the man who flew around in a red cape and tried to help as he could. There were whispers that he couldn't help overhearing sometimes. Some of them were positive but others were laced with fear and distrust.
What he needed was to find a way to speak directly to people's questions. And Clark knew exactly how to do so.
He dropped a note on Lois's desk:
"Meet me on the rooftop at 6 tonight. -A friend"
He signed it with his crest and was careful to alter the handwriting enough that it couldn't be traced back to Clark Kent. Now it was just a matter of hoping that she showed up.
He hovered in the air around the Daily Planet building, watching and waiting for any sign that Ms. Lane had taken him up on his invitation.
