Piper felt a bit like a peacock in the clothes Charles had bought for him, but that was not at all bad. It was quite good, really, though he lacked the level of vanity of a peacock. Still, that didn't stop him from feeling particularly elegant. He thankfully resisted the urge to preen, but then, that was because he didn't need to. He felt handsome enough in his clothes and to hell with anyone who disagreed! Charles had bought them for him, and so, Charles was the only person who had to agree with him about how he looked (and even then it was mostly because Piper wanted to look nice for him).

Although he felt like a peacock, he didn't show off like one. Instead, he let himself blend in for the most part. He didn't want to be conspicuous to the crowd at large. If he was, than they would notice his actions far more, and while he really did like attention, sometimes he didn't want it. This was one of those times. He just wanted to fit in as best he could and enjoy his time. Of course, just because he was blending in didn't mean he wanted to be completely ignored, which was why he'd asked a few of the ladies for a dance and slipped into conversations he actually could follow, though he was careful about what he said, to be safe.

Balls were slightly more exhausting than he knew or remembered, and he needed a moment away from the heat of all the other guests. Casually he picked up a glass of wine and slipped out of the room. He carried himself with purpose, even if he had none, and stopped at a door, his hand hovering over the knob a moment. What was behind the door? He'd been in enough nice houses to know the possibilities, but possibilities and realities weren't the same things, and he paused a moment to let his mind wonder over the possibilities. Slowly he wrapped his fingers around the knob, twisting it and opening the door. He glanced up and down the hall, spying no one spying on him, and then poked his head inside to see what reality the room held.

He'd found a library. Or sitting room. Something of that nature. There were shelves with books lining walls and chairs and a fireplace. It was nice, he thought, and before he realised it, he'd entered the room. He left the door slightly ajar to hear the ball and anyone approaching, and he set his glass on the mantle after a quick sip. He then walked around, letting his fingers run along the spines of the books he passed. What did they say, between their covers? What secrets did they hold. He stopped and pulled one down, opening it to examine the pages, flipping through them and running his fingers across the lines of texts like he'd seen others do, pretending he could read it. In his head, he made up a story, imagining what he thought was actually what the book said. He smiled a little, put it back, and then picked another book, taking it over to one of the chairs. He settled down, repeating the same process only slower, ears pricked for sounds outside the room.

Constance had needed a bit of a breather and was roaming the halls. Not spying or lurking, just walking around and just randomly tried the handle to a door. It wasn't locked so she slowly opened it and peeked her head inside. To her surprise the room was not empty. It was a library and a rather nice one too. She was a bit jealous.

"Oh I do apologise. I did not realise there was anyone here," she said, her accent coming out just a little bit. The younger boy was quite attractive and quite adorable sitting amongst all the books.

Piper's initial reaction was to shut the book quickly and jump up, to claim his innocence and hope it worked, but he clamped it down tight as he knew that that action would surly indicate he was not supposed to be here. Of course, he knew he probably wasn't, but that didn't mean others didn't know such things. He did stiffen as if startled though, and looked up, pretending to mark his spot with his finger.

"It's quite all right. I was just taking a break from all the excitement of the ball." And apparently inadvertently snooping, he added silently. "This seemed like a nice, quiet place to do that. Would I be correct in thinking you're doing about the same?" he asked curiously, though he kept his tone polite.

Constance moved further inside and shut the door again and smiled at the boy. "The excitement from the ball, yes. There is definitely that," she said as she moved toward him but absently looked at the books lining the shelves. "You would indeed be correct. Just needing a small break, that's all."

She tilted her head a bit to see what he'd been reading. "I am sorry for interrupting you in your own time of quiet resting. I do apologise, sir," she said smiling at him.

Piper shook his head lightly, a smile on his face. Inside his head, he decided to liked being referred to as sir, and he wondered about getting Rupert to call him that at times to see how it sounded out of his mouth. And how would it sound coming from Charles? They both had lovely voices. He imagined--Oh. He shouldn't be daydreaming. Not right at that moment, at least, when someone was speaking to him.

"As long as you're not here to reprimand me and drag me back to socialise, there's nothing to apologise for. After all, I think had I waited just a bit longer, our positions would be reversed, and I would be the one apologising." For a brief moment, he wondered how that would have gone if their positions had been reversed.

Constance smiled at the boy who seemed to drift off there for a bit. She was highly amused. She continued around until she was closer to him, and slowly sat down on the edge of the couch nearest his chair.

"I am far too young to be your mother. Definitely not a teacher, so no. No reprimands from me. Though what do you have against socialising. There can be lots of fun in that. If you know how to do it properly." She smiled at him. "If our positions were reversed, would you be reprimanding me? But there is nothing to be apologising for, agreed?"

She laughed and layed back a bit. "Perhaps I was in here resting off the dancing," she said, throwing a hand over her forehead dramatically. "And suddenly a handsome young man sneaks in the room. Oh horror!" she said laughing and sitting up quickly. "Whatever shall I do?" she said feiging fright but smiling while she did.

"I have nothing against socialising, though sometimes it can be exhausting. Saying the right things to the right people; all those pretenses tend to tire one out!" Despite his words, he smiled. "And no, I do not think I would reprimand you. I think, at best, I would apologise for intruding and then ask if you would care for company or if you thought it looked a touch scandalous," he said, grinning, just a little cheekily.

Piper leaned forward just a bit, thinking he liked this lady. She seemed quite fun. He laughed along with her and said, "You should ask his name. And when you do, he'll tell you it is Piper and ask if he might enjoy a moment of your company. You see, he'll have gauged you to be an interesting woman and be rather intrigued by you. As you are neither mother nor teacher to him, he'll wonder if, then, you might not be a conversing companion, at least for the moment." He looked at her a moment before settling back in his chair. "But that, of course, is purely hypothetical."

"Then I do believe you are doing it wrong my boy," Constance said grinning. "Socialising should be fun. Be yourself and enjoy people." She sat up a bit and smiled back at him. "Then I would say you were not intruding for it would be my pleasure to have you join me. ANd perhaps it IS scandalous; shall I look shocked now?" Constance feigned shock and surprise at him.

She leaned on the arm of the couch and grinned at him. "Well, hypothetically speaking, she would say it was very nice to make your acquaintance Piper. I am Constance Mosley and would be very happy to enjoy your company. She would smile because he is very charming and quite handsome, and carries himself well. And as he is neither son nor brother, she would very much like talking to him, and hopefully more than just this moment." She sat back a bit and grinned.

"Hypotheticall speaking of course."
