WHO: Everyone!
WHAT: A New Year's Eve party hosted by Logan Fox.
WHERE: Happy Endings, Chicago
WHEN: Forward dated to New Year's Eve – the party begins officially around 8:00 PM, but your subthreads can take place any time during the night.
WARNINGS: Anything goes, kiddos. Go absolutely wild.

Logan Fox smiled to himself, surveying the fruits of his labors with pleasure. There was already a sizable crowd mingling in or around the dance floor, talking and dancing (badly) amongst themselves as they waited for the show to start. The pristine silver tile had been put in place especially for the occasion, taking up much of what had formerly been the dining area in front of the stage, but there were still enough tables and chairs closer to the bar to accommodate his guests, not to mention the private booths and boxes lining the outer walls. Standing placidly in his own private box – the only one that was slightly elevated – just to the right of the stage, Logan could see everything, up to and including tonight's main attraction.

And my, what an attraction it was. The dance floor was not the only modification Logan had made for tonight's party, nor was it the most important or the most noticeable. On the contrary, that title belonged to the conspicuous well just inside the doors of the club – a wishing well that, for all intents and purposes, looked like it had been in that precise spot for centuries. Logan was particularly proud of that simple touch; considering the enchantment he'd put on the well, he wanted it to look authentic. The devil was in the details, after all, though it wouldn't have mattered either way. The vapid attendant at the door of the club handed everyone who entered three coins, and everyone, without exception, threw the coins into the well as they passed it to enter the club proper. Some were thoughtful as they did so, some flippant, but none noticed that they had no choice. They all just knew, deep within their souls, that once they crossed the threshold, all of their wishes would be granted. They would find their happy endings here, if that was what they truly desired. Compulsory or no, who could possibly resist that?

Smirking, Logan turned to exit his box, glancing at the clock above the stage as he did so. Four hours until the stroke of midnight. The New Year was almost upon them. It was to be a new beginning no reincarnate would ever forget.

"Soda's fine," he replied and offered his friend a smile. He navigated his way through the different groups of people -- all of whom who seemed to know someone who knew someone -- and he felt woefully out of place. He wondered how long everyone in here had known about the other person living in their had with a whole life and a wealth of memories and experiences. It was an idea he was still trying to wrap his head around. He half-wondered who was more real -- him or Piper?

Once he found a table, he snagged as quickly as he could. He pulled off his jacket and set it on the back of a chair, and he waited. It was like being in sixth grade in a new school with no one to sit with at the lunch table except for that one kid you met in first period who'd been your only saving grace. He just hoped that he didn't look half as nervous/confused/terrified as he felt. As he glanced up to see if Adrian had found him, he thought perhaps they might have to talk about this. Maybe not specifics, but... Well, when in Rome, right?

Adrian soon made his way back to where they had been standing. He had a built in GPS, Angie always used to tease. She hated it that he had such an amazing sense of direction. He always seemed to know where they were, where they were going, or at least where they were coming from. He grinned at the thought, but it faded quickly. Things were not so wonderful with them any more. He had always let Angie spearhead their relationship and, lately, it seemed like she wasn't leading them anywhere any more. The moment they settled on a date for the wedding, it was as if the thrill of the chase was gone for her, or something. He didn't want to think ill of her like that, but that was what it felt like. Adrian didn't think about personal things much. He reacted. She had "chosen" him when they were in school, and he'd gladly gone along with it. She had decided they should move in together to save on rent, and he had not argued with it. It had seemed like a good idea at the time. It was the natural progression of things, and Adrian did not question it. He had lived his life like this, having very few, long lasting relationships, the kind of guy who would have married his high school sweetheart and stayed with her til death do them part, because it was familiar, and easy. But now things were famliar with Angie, but no longer easy. The closer they got to having everything she wanted, the more restless she seemed to become. Adrian might not be a deep thinker, but he wasn't stupid. He noticed far more than people gave him credit for.

And now she'd gone and left him in the lurch on New Year's Eve! He was still hurt over that. Sure, her company, a great opportunity, Hollywood, yadda yadda. Whatever You don't do that to the person you're going to marry. Bless Patrick and his invitation to come out tonight. He would have never come to a place like this alone, invitation or not. It was intimidating, to say the least. Just waiting for his drinks at the bar, he'd overheard several people around him speaking freely and openly about the voices in their heads! He couldn't even imagine telling Angie about his. Come to think of it, it was a double relief to get the text from Patrick. It stood to reason that if he'd had an invite, he would know about these things too! Maybe Adrian finally had someone he could talk to about this whole scary reincarnation business.

He soon found the table and joined Patrick there. "So... Colorful place, eh?" he said, making conversation as his eyes scanned the room around them.

"That's one way of putting it," he replied as he took the glass, his gaze falling upon the people that surrounded them. They all seemed so at ease with what was happening to them, and speaking about it as if it was as if something hilarious happened while on the way to the market. He wasn't sure if that was comforting or disconcerting. He took a moment to take a sip from his drink before hazarding a glance at Adrian and offering him a thin smile. "I've never been to anything like this before."

Clearing his throat, he leaned back in his chair, and nervously crossed his arms. "Do you come to these things at all?" It was his way of testing the waters, and maybe he could generally ease into the conversation that might make him seem like a crazy man with a voice in his head. Well, not that she was loud or intense -- most of the time it was just feelings, dreams... Still took some getting used to. He couldn't even talk to his brother about it. With a new friend he clicked with, who perhaps was going through the same thing... Well, it was appealing. And terrifying all at the same time.

Adrian's eyes had been flitting about the place, a little nervously, he would admit. The snapped right back to Patrick's face when he admitted never being to one of these before. He let out an amused and relieved snort and a little gust of breath that might have been a chuckle and smiled at his new friend, liking him a little better right now. "Never. Made it as far as across the street once," he confessed with a blush.

"So," he pressed on, now that Patrick had cracked the door open a smidgen. "I take it you... know what all these people are talking about." It was a statement, but there were questions implied in his tone. He suddenly wanted to come out and say it, the secret wanting to burst from his chest at the possibility of somebody else sorta normal with whom to share it. Bless you, Patrick. And please know what the hell I'm talking about. I'd like just one friend I can talk to about these things that won't look at me like I'm a crazy person. Damn! That's what I should've wished for, isn't it?

"More or less," Patrick replied as he ran his finger along the rim of his glass. "Less than more." He wore a small smile. "It's all kind of new to me." His brow furrowed. "Taking some getting used to," he added. "I was a little surprised when I saw you had an invite." He paused, tilting his head in consideration. "Then kind of relieved." He glanced at him. "Made me feel like I wasn't so alone." Patrick glanced at the sea of people that seemed to engulf them. "Ever feel that way? Feeling alone even when you're not?"

He cleared his throat and took another sip of his drink. It felt weird alluding to it aloud. He wasn't entirely sure if he was up to calling a spade a spade yet, but maybe he could muster up the courage later. "How long have you..." How could he put it? "Been in on the conversation." Walking on egg shells, he supposed, was what they were doing. Either Adrian was new to it, too, or he was being kind.

"I bet," Adrian replied, blushing fiercely. "I don't think I'll ever get used to it. And I agree," he added with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. "I'm so glad we met, and not just because of this, but oh, my God. Feel that way? And how! Seriously Patrick, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to... you know... talk about this without sounding like a complete lunatic." He exhaled a nervous little laugh and sipped his beverage.

"Well... I guess when I was a kid I thought the voice of my conscience was maybe a little louder than other people's? But I didn't know it was... something else until halfway through college. How about you?"

"Me too," was all that Patrick could manage as Adrian spoke. Not feeling alone was a good thing. Kept him from going crazy, and it meant that he had someone to confide in. Someone who wasn't his insane and rather absent guide or watcher or whoever it was that man who showed up on his doorstep had been. Patrick shrugged at Adrian's last question. "I never really thought of it, really," he replied. "She's kind of..." He vaguely motioned toward the back of his head. "She's just always sorta been a feeling, I guess?"

Patrick fiddled with his glass as he thought back on his life. "I'd hear whispers sometimes, maybe some nudging, but never anything more." His brow furrowed. "The dreams, though, were the worst. For a while my parents just thought it was all the horror films I used to watch." He took a sip of his drink. "Stuff about demons and magic and people dying." He pushed away the memories and chuckled. "For a while, I just thought it was insomnia or some deep rooted issues. My therapist used to try and analyze the shit out of them." He couldn't help but laugh. "Turns out it was something a little crazier."

"She?" escaped Adrian's lips before he could stop himself, although he did manage to avoid sounding too shocked. "Huh," he added nonchalantly. He had no way of knowing if that might be a sensitive subject with Patrick, the fact that he had a woman's voice in his head. It simply had never occurred to Adrian that it would be an option, although now that he thought of it, it made sense. People who believed in that whole reincarnation stuff were always going on about being different genders and stuff, sometimes even different species! He idly wondered if Scooby at home might have a voice inside his head. Nah. Unless it was another doggy voice. Mitchell, on the other hand... that cat was scary sometimes, he was so smart. But he digressed. He nodded at his new friend. "Yeah, mine was like that at first. A feeling. Like a sixth sense or something."

Leo stirred at the mention of demons and magic, but Adrian stubbornly ignored him. He had years of practice doing that, at least. What he didn't know was that Leo had always actively kept most of the bad stuff he remembered from reflecting on his dreams. He was lucky. "I've had some dreams. You know, I didn't remember until now that you mention it! Nightmares, really. One nightmare. Of falling down to earth, like an angel who loses his wings. Falling and falling, and then I hit the ground and black out. I think I'm dead but I'm not. Weird, huh." Adrian blushed, he wasn't sure where all that had come from. Had Leo made him say those things? Was that a memory?

He looked at Patrick, and imagined he could see through his laughter. Everyone laughed things off that they found difficult to deal with. Laughing could be a buffer, a coping mechanism. He might be completely off base but, in case Patrick's chuckles were a nervous response or a sign of distress, Adrian reached over and gently covered his wrist with his hand. "Well, you know what? You're not alone, now." He gave his friend the slightest tug of a reassuring smile. His eyes were caring, but then that was Adrian. He cared about everybody, and wanted people to be all right, unless they were horrible people. But as a rule, Adrian thought few people were truly horrible. Certainly not Patrick here. He pulled away his hand before the touching had a chance to be awkward, or so he hoped. Adrian was a touchy-feely kind of guy. Some people found it disturbing. "And you're not crazy," he said mildly. "The situation may be, but you're not. Okay?"

The smile had been genuine. He was just glad he wasn't alone at this point. There was something to be said about someone getting you. It was, sadly, an underrated phenomenon. He knew plenty of people who pish-poshed it, but he wasn't quite someone who could really deny feeling like you belonged and that you didn't have to explain yourself. "Yeah, a she," he said. "It's a little weird sometimes, but..." He shrugged. "It is what it is, you know?" He smirked. "I'm just glad I don't get PMS or anything. That would be awful."

He was fairly certain, too, that if it hadn't been for the girl in his head, he would still be a drunk and not facing his feelings. Or his family. "Not at all," he replied with a soft chuckle, "I guess everyone's entitled to some weird dreams now and again. Especially when you're not alone in their head.

Taking a deep breath, he cleared his throat. "This is weird," he said after a moment, unsure of the right word to use, glancing around at the people again. "I feel like I haven't been out for fun in..." He shook his head. "God, so long." He felt so much older than he was. "Or a bar to boot."

Adrian burst out laughing at the unexpected PMS joke, and couldn't stop snickering from the sudden relief to all the awkwardness and nervousness from before. His tittering made him look very young. He even leaned over and squeezed Patrick's knee playfully. He suddenly felt a lot less alone in the world, and had no real way to express it any other way.

He followed Patrick's glance and heaved a happy sigh. "Tell me about it. I think I had completely blanked out what a boys' night out was like. Man, I'm really as terrible as my employees say. Guess I've truly become a workaholic."

While they were looking around, a funny fellow walked by the table and dropped a small tablet into Adrian's drink without him noticing. The well-meaning guy had decided to lend a helping hand, as it were, to everyone he deemed looked too uptight to be at a New Year's party. None the wiser, Adrian took another swig from his glass. "Well, I wanna thank you, Patrick. I needed this. You saved me from terminal boredom tonight." He finished his drink in a few more swigs and went for another round. About a half hour later, whatever had been in his drink would hit, and he would be more or less completely impaired.
