WHO: Everyone!
WHAT: A New Year's Eve party hosted by Logan Fox.
WHERE: Happy Endings, Chicago
WHEN: Forward dated to New Year's Eve – the party begins officially around 8:00 PM, but your subthreads can take place any time during the night.
WARNINGS: Anything goes, kiddos. Go absolutely wild.

Logan Fox smiled to himself, surveying the fruits of his labors with pleasure. There was already a sizable crowd mingling in or around the dance floor, talking and dancing (badly) amongst themselves as they waited for the show to start. The pristine silver tile had been put in place especially for the occasion, taking up much of what had formerly been the dining area in front of the stage, but there were still enough tables and chairs closer to the bar to accommodate his guests, not to mention the private booths and boxes lining the outer walls. Standing placidly in his own private box – the only one that was slightly elevated – just to the right of the stage, Logan could see everything, up to and including tonight's main attraction.

And my, what an attraction it was. The dance floor was not the only modification Logan had made for tonight's party, nor was it the most important or the most noticeable. On the contrary, that title belonged to the conspicuous well just inside the doors of the club – a wishing well that, for all intents and purposes, looked like it had been in that precise spot for centuries. Logan was particularly proud of that simple touch; considering the enchantment he'd put on the well, he wanted it to look authentic. The devil was in the details, after all, though it wouldn't have mattered either way. The vapid attendant at the door of the club handed everyone who entered three coins, and everyone, without exception, threw the coins into the well as they passed it to enter the club proper. Some were thoughtful as they did so, some flippant, but none noticed that they had no choice. They all just knew, deep within their souls, that once they crossed the threshold, all of their wishes would be granted. They would find their happy endings here, if that was what they truly desired. Compulsory or no, who could possibly resist that?

Smirking, Logan turned to exit his box, glancing at the clock above the stage as he did so. Four hours until the stroke of midnight. The New Year was almost upon them. It was to be a new beginning no reincarnate would ever forget.

Rachel had to bite her lip to keep from outright laughing. The scene was comical enough, but probably only for her, and she wasn't quite mean enough to keep encouraging Remy. Probably.

No, she wasn't. Actually, the more this went on, the more she couldn't help feeling pretty happy that it was so easy to get along with Nate, after the initial awkwardness on her part. Nate was clearly not exactly on the up and up, Rachel didn't need Rogue to tell her that much, but he was still a nice guy, at least to her. For Rachel that definitely counted for something. Plus, he was Remy, so it was nice to have someone around who Rogue actually liked. All in all, and probably without him knowing, he'd been making this a whole lot easier on her by just being himself instead of pretending to be otherwise. So maybe this whole reincarnation thing could be a blessing in disguise after all.

She decided to be kind, at least in her own way. While Remy and Nate were still arguing with each other Rachel stood up from her crate carefully, balancing her drink and cigarette in one hand as she picked her way over to them. She reached his side in a manner of seconds and leaned over, planting a very real kiss on Nate's cheek. "That was for both of you. You earned it," she smiled, before stepping back and taking a lean against the wall beside him and looking up at the sky in the most nonchalant way possible. "Wow, you can actually see the stars out tonight."

Nate was starting to question his decision not to let Remy take over every once in a while. If arguing with the Cajun got him a kiss from pretty girls--even if it was just a kiss on the cheek--he supposed he could let Remy in on some of his fun. Maybe.

Dat's what Remy been tryin' t'tell ya, garçon. Yeah, yeah. Nate rolled his eyes. Yeah, he still wasn't for the whole possession thing, even if it got him a kiss apparently.

"You've got nice lips. Nice and uh...soft." He cringed. What the fuck was that? Remy groaned and let out a long string of curse words in French at Nate's stupidity. Dis be why you let Remy speak! Zut alors, le garçon est un imbécile stupide! Nate's eyebrows wrinkled together.

"I'm not stupid." He muttered to himself before willingly taking the subject change. "Yeah, it's pretty cool. You see that one right there?" He asked, pointing up at a random star in the sky. The way he spoke one would think he was an astronomy expert or something. "It's one of the oldest stars in the universe, and the most beautiful. I'm gonna name it Rachel."

That was probably one of the stranger compliments she'd ever gotten from someone, but somehow, coming from Nate 'your lips are nice and soft' sounded a lot sweeter to her than anything else she'd ever heard from a guy. Maybe because it had been genuinely off the top of his head, not rehearsed and horrendously cheesy verging on crude.

"Thanks," she'd replied while grinning like an idiot, raising an eyebrow at the 'I'm not stupid' remark for a second before she realized he was talking to Remy again. Poor guy. She settled back against the cold, brick wall then, willing herself to focus for awhile on the surprisingly clear night sky when Nate pointed to a star and her gaze immediately followed him.

"Is it?" Rachel asked, content to play along before she actually blushed a little, her cheeks growing hot at his admission. That's when her gaze dropped to the ground for an instant, looking for anything to focus on before she looked back up at the "Rachel" star, glancing at Nate out of the corner of her eye. When she laughed softly, her breath came out visible in the cold air, but she hardly noticed. It may have been cold out but she suddenly felt warm all over. "If you asked me, the Cajun could learn a thing or two from you."

"That's what I keep telling him, but he just doesn't want to listen." Nate said with a chuckle, trying not to look too pleased with himself even though he was. He'd made Rachel blush without Remy telling him what to say. Really, it was a sentence that had made the grown man in his head groan in embarrassment, but she had liked it. Suck on that, Cajun.

It didn't take much for him to realize she was cold, so after discarding his spent cigarette, he moved to shrug off his jacket. It was long, probably too big for her (it was big on him), but it was warm. He didn't even wait to ask for permission, he just moved over to drape it over her shoulders. Now that was definitely a Gambit move, but Nate was proud to say he'd done it all on his own.

After that he went back to shuffling the cards, a please grin on his face with every fliiiiiick that the cards made. He was a gambler, just like his counterpart, but he was a lot safer about it. He wasn't about to get into any bo-staff fights. "Pick a card. Bet I can guess what it is," He said, holding them out in a fan to her with one hand. He was back to leaning lazily against the wall, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. His break had ended probably a good five minutes prior, but he didn't care. This was much more entertaining than tending bar.

Nate's jacket (or more accurately, Gambit's) smelled largely of cigarette smoke when he first draped it over her, the scent of tobacco immediately wafting in through her nostrils. But underneath that was another, more subtle scent, one she immediately associated with Nate. He smelled nice, to say the least, and she didn't mind the smell of smoke obviously. She was also grateful for the added warmth, smiling to herself as he wordlessly put it on her shoulders and she shrugged her arms into it, pulling her long hair out from under the collar before he stepped back to assume his earlier position of shuffling cards.

"Mmmmm..." Rachel trailed off while considering the deck of cards, taking one last drag of her cigarette before tossing it at her feet and putting it out with her toe. The coat was definitely too big for her, the sleeves of it constantly sliding past her wrists and covering up her hands, but she hardly noticed.

"That one." She said after a moment, biting her lip in concentration as she stretched out a few fingers and delicately picked a card from the deck in his hand. It was a three of hearts. She quickly pressed the card to her chest so he couldn't see what it was and looked at him expectantly. "So what now? Do you guess, or does it go back in the pile first?"

Nate wasn't a magician. He could never be a magician. Not because he didn't have the skill, he was sure. Most magic tricks were done with ninja-like slide of hand. No, Nate's issue was that he didn't have the patience to learn a damn trick because there was nothing for him to gain from it. So instead, he just pretended for a while with the assumption that people wouldn't want to play along. And that was a damn stupid assumption.

"Ummm...Put it back in." He said, talking out of his ass when she asked the question. He didn't really know, and Gambit wasn't helping him. He was taking one of those stupid 'you said you could do it on your own so do it' stands that really translated into a butthurt silent tantrum. What a jackass.

As soon as Rachel put the card in, Nate's brain was working like well-oiled gears. He couldn't do the trick, but there was still a chance he could make her laugh. So with a smile that had tricked hundreds, he began charging up all of the cards--even the one she'd replaced--and tossed them into the air for a nice fireworks display.

"I can't do magic. Have a distracting light display instead."

And laugh she did. Rachel hadn't seen it coming, at least not until all the cards started giving off a glowy red color instead of... well, whatever might have happened if Nate had made a guess. Instead, he'd thrown all the cards up above their heads to let them explode into fireworks, which Rachel was now sure she would have preferred to the less exciting guessing game either way.

The explosion of light above them lit up her entire face, illuminating her smile as she tilted her chin up to look at the view. This was even better than the fourth of July in her opinion. Well, she was probably a little biased there, but she didn't care. She also didn't care that her break was probably long over. It was highly unlikely that anyone would miss her in there in the middle of all that chaos.

"Distracting light displays are totally better than magic anyway," she said after a moment encouragingly, angling her head away from the fading explosion of light to smirk at him, her cheeks still sweetly pink in the aftermath. "Got any other tricks up your sleeves, slick?"
