WHO Hera/Cora, Zeus/Tara, Demeter/Alice, Hades/Hayden, Poseidon/Jeremiah
WHEN 7 April 2012 | dinner time
WHERE Cora's apartment
WHAT a family dinner, finally!

She had been quite truthful in her texts to Zeus that her own apartment was just as nice and just as capable of holding a dinner party as his was; however, much of the reason she had wanted to do it herself were a little more selfish. She knew her kitchen (though she was beginning to get a better understanding of Tara’s) but more importantly, she wanted to prove to her husband that she did not need his assistance. She had not back in the years of old and she still did not in the mortal realm.

Not being much of a cook she ordered out from a very nice restaurant and was plate-ing things in an aesthetic fashion and wrapping them tightly in foil and setting them in the oven as so they wouldn’t get cold. All that was left was to finish the dessert, of which she had made; cooking she might not have been able to do much of, but baking. Well, she had not been exaggerating her skills one could say.

She had been in the middle of carefully frosting the hazelnut and white chip brownies when the door had rung and Zeus had appeared. Both Cora and Hera greeted him enthusiastically before returning to the matter at hand, playfully attempting to keep her wayward husband from cheating on dinner. When the door rang again, some time later, Hera had hung up her small apron and was looking the put together hostess for the evening.
---
Tara had shown up a bit early, as requested, dressed nicely but...well, still business-like. She was trying to be more businesslike, and it was important to show an united front to her brothers and sisters. Even Hera, sometimes. She didn’t know how she felt about having it at Hera’s apartment. Yes, Hera was powerful, but she was rather tender and worried about her own power right now, about showing her strength, not giving to her wife.

Still, she’d brought rather a lot of good wine, and an invitation for Hebe, which would be set in her wife’s hand.

“Another? And who do you think will be first? My bet is on...Poseidon.” Or Hades. He figured that Demeter and Poseidon would come together. He leaned a bit against Hera and then sighed and knelt to lift her cat. Who had taken to Tara - perhaps the cat knew (and loved) its namesake. It did sort of match with Zeus’ arrogance, after all. Love oneself and all that good stuff. She’d let Hera answer the door though.
---
He had appeared promptly with a fistful of fresh flowers and a bottle of red wine under his arm. He did not, however, look very happy. Though when Hera opened the door his perpetual scowl lightened to a degree and those dead, green eyes seemed to brighten. He held out the flowers to her.

“Hello,” and when he entered he pressed in close, an arm of his young vessel slung carefully around her middle to draw her into a slight embrace. His cold lips ghosted at her cheek.

“It’s good to see you,” he could feel her, too, even if her face was not familiar. Hades broke the embrace and headed inside, pausing when he approached Zeus. He stared at the way the cat took to his brother and that same cat grew still when Hades approached, eyed him warily.
---
Jeremiah was running late but he blamed Alice for the distraction. He had been too busy trying to kiss her and time had gotten away from him. He knocked on Hera's door and looked over at Alice with a comfortable smile before dropping a light kiss to her nose. He hadn't told her that it was a meeting for them and their siblings, he hoped that she wouldn't be mad later. He knew she was still trying to figure out balance for Alice and Demeter together.

Poseidon walked through Hera's door, his eyes lighting up at the sight of his siblings. He kissed Hera's check, hugging her tightly as he greeted her. His gaze lingered over Zeus. It was hard to reconcile the gender change but he could still see his brother there. "Hello." He said to both Zeus and Hades. "I brought someone for everyone to meet." He turned to Alice and smiled. "Alice these are our brothers, Hades and Zeus. And our sister, Hera." He turned to everyone. "This is Alice." Walking such a fine line because she was both awake and not.

Alice laughed lightly at the kiss, feeling nervous but generally pleased to be there. Jeremiah was in a good mood and it was infectious. She didn't know what to expect from his friends but he didn't seem worried and it did a lot to calm her too. Walking in was surprising to say the least, no one seemed like what she was expecting- and Jeremiah seemed to warm even more about them.

There was also a distinct energy that filled the room, something she'd only experienced with him before, really. Her eyes widened slightly. His introduction didn't surprise her as much as it should have perhaps but she still tensed, her heart pounding. Now she was nervous.

Alice licked her lips and smiled as warmly as she could manage. "It's nice to meet you all," she responded. There were so many problems with this situation- the fact that he had tricked her, the fact that he referred to her as his sister- truth or not, and Zeus was a woman... She tried not to stare at any of them but her eyes did linger on the one he had identified as Hades, feeling an irrational anger.

When she had opened the door to find Hades on the other side of it she threw Zeus a meaningful look before encircling her brother into a hug, returning the kiss to his cheek. "You are so young Hades," her hands remained on his arms as she looked him over before gesturing him in.

Her mouth had opened to tell him to make himself comfortable when the door was calling her attention again and she nearly visibly brightened with the knowledge of who would be on the other side. He stood in front and nearly lept to hug him tightly, returning the kiss he gave as well before stepping back only to have to clasp her hands, covering her mouth as her eyes prickled with wetness.

"Hello," Hera could not help it she stepped forward and took her into a tight hug. Logic reminded her that her sister was not quite aware and this would probably be overwhelming, but her dearest sister... "It's so good to have you here." The words were nearly whispered as she continued the sisterly affection before slowly stepping away, smiling at her, meeting her gaze to try and see the divine soul beneath.

Ah yes, the flowers to his wife. Zeus wasn't sure if he was amused or not. He'd nod to Hades though. "Good to see you." Was pleasant, if cautious, to his older brother, and he'd lift Jove lightly into his arms, fingers curling over Jove's fur. Awkward family reunions. "Poseidon." Softer greeting, but then he'd release the cat to let it bound away and focus on his family.

"Alice." Was warmer. Demeter.

A past conquest, his sister, long lost. Zeus stepped forward - really, strode forward - to claim her arm in a firm clasp. "We have missed you." Was sure and solid. And it was Zeus, standing straight and looking taller than his vessel's already not inconsequential height. A woman, but Zeus.

And he was going to let that weird them out for about a month more before he started snarking at them.

He was used to such hostile looks from his sister. He longed to simply spit it out, to tell her what he had done so she could be with her daughter but this was not yet the time to do so. Maybe he could get her alone later... but for now he stayed rooted to the spot and he watched everyone else hug and kiss and greet.

Hades rubbed his bicep softly and finally spoke up.

"Hello," different versions of them played out in his head. A male Zeus, older, large and fierce and so damned regal. A bearded Poseidon, Hera adorned in peacock feathers on her gown, and Demeter.. her face stone when it looked upon him. He took in a deep breath.

"I wish Hestia were here."

Poseidon knew his deception would come up later between him and Alice. It was not that he had decieved her on purpose, he had wanted to talk to her about it but he had also known that she would be too nervous if she had a lot of forewarning. He squeezed her hand as they entered the room.

"I have been looking forward to this meeting all week." Poseidon broke the ice after greetings were spoken. He had met with Hera but had only conversed with his brothers online. "It is very good that we try to set aside our issues and attempt to reconcile for the sake of this new world." In the past they had hated each other at times, especially Demeter and Hades but in order to survive the new world, they needed to be more cohesive.

"I miss Hestia, as well." 5 out of 6 was very good but it would have been good to have all six.

The hug surprised her and at first she tensed but then instict seemed to come over her. Her arms wrapped around Hera and her body relaxed, melting into the affection. This was what it was to have a sister and flits of images came over her. She smiled, smirking nearly, at the searching gaze. "It is me, Hera," she assured her, with a small squeeze of her hand. "Although I understand I've changed somewhat." The fact did not bother Demeter. Each crop was different and she had lived a new life with Alice.

Zeus may have been in a woman's body but he commanded every bit of elegance that she had admired in him during their time. "So formal Zeus," she responded, almost teasing. Her hand opposite move to the side of his neck, gripping the now slender collum affectionately. A familiar gesture.

"Hestia-" she looked around, realizing that the other was missing. "Where is she?"

Poseidon's words about setting aside their issues seemed aimed directly at her. She couldn't help the way her eyes flicked to Hades although she did avoid crossing her arms. Having him so close- and Zeus as well- made her ever more aware that Persephone was out there somewhere.

"I-" she paused realizing the face, the voice, while not physically her sister, it was Demeter; not buried under a mortal, but speaking to them, open and solid--she nearly hugged her again. Instead she turned to Poseidon and lightly tapped his arm in a smack, wrapping her own around his in a pseudo embrace. "You said she was not awakened! That is my sister." She turned again to Demeter to smile brightly, walking then to take her hand affectionately, going to lead her siblings further into her living space only to stop and look to Hades with a sad smile, shaking her head.

"We have not found her. For now, it is us." Hera's voice was poignant and a bit sad, directed at Demeter's question.

"We all wish Hestia was here." Was sure, and Zeus would finally touch his brother, reaching out to slap Hades lightly on the shoulder. A weirdly masculine gesture for...well, her, but, totally Zeus. Hades seemed so much a younger brother now with his age. Odd. Incredibly odd. But then, Zeus had never felt like the youngest, not really.

A little laugh. "Look at us. We'll find Hestia, and then we'll be complete again. Already. I wonder if any of the other pantheons are this complete already..."

He came to claim his wife again, curling a loose arm around her, possessive.

The slap had him stumbling forward two steps but there was nothing hateful in the look he shared with Zeus. In fact, there was no hate or cool anger toward any of them. The quiet, stoic look that graced Hades face was almost just exhaustion and something else... something very nearly sad, but what caused him to be so depressed was not quite made known.

He followed Hera further into her living quarters and sat in a solitary chair, hands folding in his lap and shoulders hunching slightly. He waited for them all to sit before he spoke again but when he did he was staring directly at Demeter.

"I found Persephone."

Poseidon offered Hera a smile at her words. "She is awake and yet not, they are completely one." He snagged Alice's hand as he claimed the spot next to her on the sofa. The gesture was mostly for comfort but whether it was for her or him it wasn't clear. Jeremiah didn't know they people in the room very well even if he was acquainted with their god souls.

He looked amongst his siblings and had just settled back when Hades made his announcement. He flinched and looked at Demeter. He nearly groaned at the change in the atmosphere. He had forgotten how straightforward and blunt Hades could be.

"I'm right here," she said teasingly to Hera and Poseidon who seemed to be talking as if she weren't witness to their conversation. Alice licked her lips as Poseidon explained her situation though, glad he had the words to do it as she wasn't quite sure how to herself. Her discomfort began to dissolve as he took her hand and sat next to her though. He was calming if nothing else.

She was sorry to hear that Hestia was missing still. They two were fairly different but she was still fond of her. All thoughts of such were lost with Hades' words though. Her eyes locked on the man, who was already looking directly at her. "What do you mean you found her? Where is she? Do you have her?" The accusation was clear in her words and she didn't even mean to stand exactly, Jeremiah forgotten for the time begin. Where Persephone was concerned there was nothing laid back about Demeter.

Hera nearly sighed out loud. And things were going so well. Her gaze shifted between her two siblings, like Poseidon, she was aware of the change in the air. There had always been tension between the two ever since Persephone's capture, even after her daughter had been clearly fine--even seemed to come back happy from her time with her husband, Demeter was incredible overprotective.

Giving a small squeeze to Zeus' arm as her sister stood, Hera did the same, walking to her, laying a hand on her shoulder gently, though not speaking. It was mostly a gesture of comfort than anything else.

"Of course he doesn't have her." Zeus frowned, but he glanced at Hades and then Demeter. "Hopefully she will come to the gathering and then we will all have our chances to speak with her, separately." He stood straighter. "Come. I'm sure my wife's food grows cold." Was a transparent change of topic, but with a compelling nudge to it that wasn't purely Zeus - but partially Zeus' power as well.

"We have much to discuss, in any case. Cronus, for one. And the controversy he has caused. Obviously we cannot simply lock ourselves off from other pantheons..."

And hopefully that would be a compelling enough topic to shift everyone away from arguing about Persephone for now.

He scowled at Demeter's words and opened his mouth to claim he did not, but Zeus answered for him. Hades snapped his mouth shut and spoke no further on the topic. He would speak of it later though, and maybe just to Demeter. He knew it was stupid to bring it up but somehow he couldn't stop himself, he was oddly desperate to explain what he did, how it was good for Demeter.

Wordlessly he took Zeus' command (request? nudge?) and went with the change of topic.

"I have spoken to father in person," he said. Father, not Cronus. "You all know I have had more time to spend with him when he was so near my domain... I find there is much about him changed, but I understand concerns for what power he should retain, if any."

Jeremiah stood instinctively, reacting when Demeter did and he looked back and forth between his brothers and sisters. The tension in the air was quite thick and he sighed. He had always tried to stay out of the fight, taking neither side but supporting both.

He reached out for Demeter's hand when Zeus attempted a topic change. He wasn't going to force her to calm down or back off. It was her daughter and he knew without a doubt that he would have reacted the same with his.

"I do not trust him or his motives." Poseidon offered as he looked toward Hades and then toward Zeus. "I cannot see how this would change him in such a short time when he stayed the same for thousands."

Demeter appreciated the gesture from Hera but she was feeling volatile to say the least and nearly shrugged her sister off. "What do you mean come to the gathering? You've known where my daughter is as well?" That's right- her daughter, not their daughter. She was instantly angry at both of them for keeping it from her- even if they had not actually met until today. She was ripping her hand back from Poseidon, although she appreciated his supporting her, when Zeus nudged them. She was not ready to drop the topic but there was little she could do against his power- which was clearly more developed than her own.

"This is not-" she tried to argue- but it clearly was over. This time her fingers did find Poseidon's hand and she gripped them hard, her will struggling against their brother's. She didn't care about Cronus or the other pantheons! She wanted to know where Persephone was!

With little other choice she begrudgingly joined the new conversation, though her jaw was tight and her voice not nearly as easy. "I've changed," she looked back at Jeremiah. "Alice's influence as we- grew together- or whatever happened- has changed aspects of who I am, or how I feel. Maybe it's not enough for him but it's possible. Things have changed."

Hera understood the desperation, her sister had always been a tad overprotective of her oldest, but to be without ones children was difficult. She longed for Ares and had she found out one of them (including Zeus) was holding out on the whereabouts of her eldest son she would have been much the same.

Though Demeter was returning to Poseidon, taking solace from him, she still met her eye and gave her a small smile, a look of understanding that she hoped Demeter would understand.

Which was quickly retrieved at the mention of their father. Everything about Hera changed, she was not open and empathetic, but fierce and harsh. Hera's feeling on Cronus had not changed for the thousand years they had been gone. "I agree with Poseidon, I do not understand how you Hades could of all offer forgiveness when you of all of us here were the longest in his gastro-prison. I have not forgotten and he has even said to me that were he to gain power again he has little doubt he would become uncontrollable with that rage.

"Who is to say that he will not want that power again? Is his word enough?" She was nearly spitting the words, furious with their father's sudden need to treat them as his children again when he had done nothing but tortured them in their previous lives.

"No, I don't know where she is." Was truthfully. "I am trusting those who do to deliver her invitation to her." Hades, Hermes or Tobias. Gentle, but he was firmly nudging the topic away. "He recently showed off his power very obviously, I'm not sure what to make of that, in combination with his desire to turn us against other pantheons." A deep breath. "And I do think we should have connections with other pantheons. As they grow in power and we grow in power, alliances will inevitably form. With so many godkings floating about, I'm sure there will be clashes, and I'd like to ensure that we are always in the most powerful position with them."

A light touch to the small of his wife's back, soothing her anger, or trying to. "His word is not enough, but we cannot simply banish him back to Tartarus in this new world, especially if he has changed. So we must consider, and watch him closely, at least for now."
