Okay, so no kissing in public. How about hand holding? Hand holding is cute.

That'll be my superhero name: Daggerclaws.

No, we don't tend to do that, though for more reasons than simply discretion. Many dwarves wear far more in the way of beads and braids than I do and it is far too easy to get such things tangled when kissing. A mite embarrassing in public. Hand holding certainly and, though it might sound odd, we press our foreheads together to express affection.

A fearsome name.

You should braid my hair.

Foreheads. Okay, I can do that.

Neato completo.

That can be soon, if you're not busy.

Would you permit to braid a bead into your hair?

Nothing that cannot be set aside, especially for you.

That would be fine! It'd be cool, even.

Come on over. I should get you a key.

Excellent. I have been waiting for an opportunity to ask.

I shall be there soon.

Is this a dwarf thing?

Ah. Yes, forgive me. Both braiding and beads are... intimate. The only ones who braid a dwarf's hair are himself, his immediate family and a lover or spouse. And the beads we wear are significant. Given by family or loved ones. The beads in my braids came from Fili and Kili when they came of age. They are usually given to a father but an uncle who has stood in as a father is not uncommon. The other bead I wear is one that was given to me by my grandfather when I came of age. The earcuff was given to me by my father after my first major battle.

That's so interesting. I'd love for you to braid a bead into my hair. I didn't know it was so important.

I forget sometimes that others might not realise our beads and braids might be for something other than vanity.
