[Starfleet]

So, you know how pornography is like a substitute for sex?

This is kind of like that.

And a valid one at that.

I certainly wouldn't consider rushing into anything.

But part of me feels all this knowledge shouldn't go to waste. Especially when the locals are already going in thaat direction. But it is a tricky situation.

All due respect to Mr. Stark, he seems like an intelligent man with a great deal of vision and heart, but I can't help hesitating. He did impulsively give a terrorist his home address. I think bringing it directly to NASA might be the more obvious conclusion.

Stark seems as impulsive as some captains I know.

NASA would be a good option. They have actually reopened their astronaut training program.

Touché.

Have you been in contact with them?

No. I didn't pursue anything given how the last conversation on this topic went.

Well I think talking is a good place to start. We don't need to commit to anything.

That's true.

Any one else you think we should bring into this conversation?

I think NASA's best are the people who matter, but I suppose we could inform SHIELD to be polite.

Actually. I think I have a better idea.

Let's just build a starship and not tell anyone.

We don't have the money, resources, or space to pull of something that advanced.

We've got the means to raise the money -- in ways that we haven't anywhere else.

It might take some time, but it might be a better idea than handing over the technology that can be used to build a lot of advanced weaponry to a world that still doesn't seem stable enough to stop fighting with itself.

Raise millions, perhaps billions, of dollars? It took years to design our ships, even in our time, and we're dealing with much older technology. That would be years to design, get the funding, and build. And with no guarantee any of us will still be here in that time, leaving the project started and easy to get in the hands of those left behind.

The money -- actually -- the money I think might be the easy part. But I'd rather keep this within Starfleets control than, you know, flirting with disaster.

There's a ranch 45 minutes out of the city where I keep Bulletproof. There's space there and Zoe might let us use some space there. (She may want to know what we're doing.) Otherwise, we can probably rent space somewhere.

We have Chekov. He's already figured out how to transport people in this universe and he's working on a warp drive. I'm sure he could reverse engineer one to work with what technology we do have.

I support keeping it within Starfleet. The stars call, even without the technology. It's a siren song I can't resist.

The Enterprise is half of a mile long and hundreds of feet up, that's not to mention the amount of space required to set up and bring together the parts. Construction will be much greater. Billions of dollars besides that, and it can't be kept within Starfleet. We'll need hundreds of workers to hire to make it, unless you suggest Chekov does it all on his own. And we have no idea what the government sanctions or requirements are in this country or planet. They're not going to turn a blind eye to us building something like that, nor would we if it was our world.

And what's to stop them from taking pictures of what we're doing or spying for the design? Are we hiring security on top of that? It doesn't seem like good form to utilize this planet's money, space, and resources to build something we have no intention of sharing. And telling no one only makes it seem like we have something to hide. For all they know we could be designing weapons on their land.

It's not a foolproof plan, or an easy on, but I think it needs to be given adequate consideration.

I spent the last five years on Earth overseeing the building of the Enterprise, I remember how much space it took to build her. We don't need to build the Enterprise though.

I'm thinking this is a discussion that should be continued in person over drinks.

Of course, all options should be considered, that's the best way to make any decision. And drinks in particular make it easier.

Yeah. As much as I love the Enterprise, it doesn't make sense to try and reconstruct her, we don't have the kind of crew. We could go something smaller scale.

As for funding -- Spock and I are working out something.

And as for drinks: count me in.

Most certainly smaller scale.

Who else should we invite to drinks? The other Captains?
