Well, this is... new.

I'm still not entirely convinced that this isn't a drug-induced hallucination. If it is, I have to say that the absence of dancing mops and trumpet-wielding elephants is a little disappointing. LSD is to Fantasia as [mystery drug] is to waking up in a Seinfeld episode?

If you happen to see a cantankerous, misanthropic, intolerant, self-involved, antagonistic doctor with one working leg, I suggest that you run in the opposite direction. He won't be able to catch you.

Her b Poor, sweet, dying girl. Looking consumptive's making a comeback.

May of the next year. You need to go to an oncologist. Tell them to check your Thymus gland. Stark should be able to cover any tests but in the event that he's off banging a supermodel, I'll take care of it. Go to Dr. Pradma Vankenini; she's a fan of the show.

If it's any consolation, I pointed out that you were pretty too.

I'm sorry, are you telling me that I have cancer? Of the Thymus? That would be incredibly atypical for a Caucasian 39 year-old male.

Oh yay lol omg I live for being thought of as pretty.

You break the mold. Congrats. I don't know much about it other than it happens and it's resist, but I thought I could put aside my existential angst for a sec to give you the heads up. Cutthroat Bitch indeed. Do you need want me to go with you?

I'm not saying that it's your defining quality. I was more impressed with how efficiently you saved House's life.

Do you have any idea when? If it's months away, it could already be too late. I I don't know. Would I have wanted you to go with me in May of 2008? Were we friends?

Doing so remains my profoundest regret.

I think you were officially diagnosed in 2012. So you've still got some time, but I know it's aggressive and resistant. I'm assuming you prefer me to rip off the bandaid, here, right? But even if you don't prefer, tender nothings aren't really my forte, so deal with it.

Not really. I was the best girlfriend you'd ever had. And way better than any of your wives.

Allowing him to live? A common sentiment, I'm sure.

Yes, no-- That is, I appreciate you ripping off the bandaid. Thank you, A Amber. I've always valued honesty in situations like this, though I have to admit that I'm unaccustomed to being on this side of one. Four years is a long time. Maybe this doctor friend of yours can pick up some abnormal cell growth on a PET scan. If it's a thymoma, it's a little more insidious and slow-growing. There might be something there, where there wouldn't be yet for a more rapid thymic carcinoma. I can honestly say that this is the first (and hopefully only) time in my life that I've wanted to have see cancer on my own test results.

We dated? Wow. You're certainly... different from my ex-wives. I admire your ambition, and your frankness.

That's what I was thinking. At the very least, if you get consistent testing we might be able to catch it earlier than you did on the show. I mean, it's not like it's a typical diagnosis. No one was looking for it. Who would?

I'm pretty much the best thing you had going on, even if House ranked breaking us up second only to guzzling meds. But that's a side-dish; we need to get this cancer TCO'd.

Also, you might've figured it out already, but don't google yourself. Just don't. And when you inevitably do out of curiosity, have a bucket nearby.

This really isn't a decaf-induced hallucination, is it? This is real.

That sounds like House. I'm sorry. For House being an ass, and for not remembering. Thank you for not being too angry with me not to tell me about the cancer. If you'd still like to come...

Have you watched the, uh, show? Thank God House isn't here. Can you imagine how he'd react to discovering that he's the protagonist of a popular television show?

Nope. If you go to Boston, nothing's right. The hospital doesn't exist. Oh sure, cancer fieldtrip with someone who doesn't remember me Sounds like a great way to spend the af You can g Yeah, I'll come. I'll talk with the sup and get my shift moved.

I did. Got the gist on Youtube and then burned through the DVDs my first weekend here. Our lives are pretty formulaic, fair warning. I don't think it's actually possible for House to get more insufferable, but he's defied physics before. I have a group of fairy-tale watchdogs here who've been trained to kill on my command in case he shows.

Wait. I don't want to get you in trouble. It can probably hopefully wait. We could go on your next day off?

It must have been surreal to watch yourself on television.

It's fine. It's done. They usually want me on nights anyway; they only gave me day shifts after I blackmailed th-- you know, I'm bored, let's focus on other things.

The whole thing's from House's point of view, too. Which reminds me, you should probably have a conversation with House about why my face represents his inner id, because ugh.

Well, if you're sure. You know, I take what your friend said to heart. I don't want you to feel compelled to help me with this if it would be easier for you not to. It wasn't my intention to disturb your life here.

How, exactly, was that visually represented?

I figured as much, but I wanted to be clear. In that case... I can't thank you enough, Amber. You may have given me the second chance that I didn't know that I needed.

I'll have a talk with him about that. It sounds like I'd be well within my rights to do so.

Welcome. Let's get all Hippocratic Oath in this joint.

It isn't that surprising, is it? Given how he treats uh everyone. Whatever. I was already dead by then so it's not like my feelings were hurt.

Oh right. I died. That was traumatizing. Let's not talk about it.

Not the ones I was rooting for.

Uhhh let's see. Cliff's notes. I'm assuming Thirteen dies off-screen. Don't know, don't care. House and Cuddy hooked up and broke up. It was exactly as messy as you might expect. House did a stint in the nuthouse for a while (see above re: me running around as a hallucinatory id). Chase and Cameron broke up. Shocker. Ohhhhh and Chase got House's job. House faked his death. It was all very Sherlockian.

This is beginning to sound like a soap opera.

Why did House fake his own death?

And why aren't you telling me how you died?

He drove his car into Cuddy's house. Sentenced to prison, found out you were sick, and chucked the rest of his sentence to be with you since the prognosis was grim.

Bus crash mixed with a side of taking cold medication. Kidneys were shot, and then so was I. House wa I don't know why my inclination is to protect House from this given my general desire to see the man suffer, but I was picking him up from a bar to keep him from driving. We took the bus.

He faked his death to spend my final days with me? That's... kind of romantic, actually. You know, in a creepy, highly illegal, strictly platonic way.

Was it m Did I ask you to pick him up?

Moral of this story: bad things happen when House drives.

James, I said I didn't want to talk about i-- Yes. You tried, House tried, the whole damn medical team tried, it was actually pretty touching considering what they thought of me. But it hasn't happened here. We can't stop busses from crashing, but we can keep our eyes open and move forward and all those other pep talk nuances that I suck at giving. Got it? Now pull back your angst feelers and meet me downstairs. I've called Dr. Vankenini and she's got an opening at 2:00pm.
