Oh yeah, you guys. Marcy is feeling pretty good about this. As soon as she gets a silver tray with a little note on this, well obviously these fairies didn't know what they were getting themselves into when they picked MARCELINE THE VAMPIRE QUEEN to mess with.

Except it isn't for Ronan. Okay, no big deal. She'll save this Maya chick instead. It's just the trial confuses her: Make them an offer? Her face fell when reading the note. "What??"

So for the first part of her trial she's going to float around wondering who the heck she's supposed to make an offer to.

TO BE CONTINUED... (Feel free to reply if someone tries to help or distract her.)

In another time, this look of Emma's was normal for her. She was comfortable. She could do whatever she want, except shut the demon up. It took the form of Gold — Rumpelstiltskin — and as soon as she arrived, out of the corner of her eye, she could swear she saw him, sitting there, ready to start taunting her to use Dark Magic.

She wasn't going to. Her days of being the Dark One were over.

Weren't they?

She'd sacrificed Hook back home to get rid of the Dark One. In this journey, Henry have fixed that in the Storybrooke she'd created. He'd realized what was going on and took that away, she thought. Was it just hidden there all this time? Emma wrung her hands together, studying the crowd and catching sight of Marceline floating by.

Emma reached out before realizing that her hands were sparking, as if there was electricity running between her fingers. No one else seemed to notice. She refused to touch Marcy.

"Marceline. You have a card."

"Woah. Hey, Emma. I almost didn't recognize you." It's not how she's used to seeing Henry's mom, her friend. The hair, the bright red lipstick, the black dress. It doesn't occur to Marcy that the dramatic style came from somewhere. But Marcy gives a big shark-toothed smile because it does look pretty cool.

Where as Marcy is in strange shoulder pads, a mask that isn't unlike one of the demon forms she sometimes takes, and her mid section is bound up so tightly only the undead would put on a dress like that when breathing isn't an issue. Marcy isn't able to to shapeshift though. It just remains uncomfortable.

"Yeah, some fairy just handed me this card. Now I gottah figure out who this is and who I gottah talk to. You doing anything?" Even in the middle of an Enchanted Fairy Ball, Marceline was all very casual about it. Like this was somehow normal. And for her, it kinda was. She looked a little bored.

"Yeah, it's not —" Emma shook her head and shoved her hands behind her back.

Instead, she tilted her head to look at Marcy's card. Maya Lopez. Make me an offer. She heard Rumple's very distinct giggle-cackle behind her. An offer. "An offer of what?"

Neal's eyes had been scanning the ballroom with the intention of identifying those he was familiar with. There were certain members of the community that he felt he recognized, even behind their masks, but the easy of them all to identify was Marceline. Even hidden behind a mask and in an outfit he doubted she'd ever chose of her own accord, she was floating above the dance floor, and that was Neal's tail tale sign when it came to the young in spirit vampire. While he wanted to find his family first, he figured Marceline might be a good way to find either Henry or Baelfire.

He didn't expect Emma, who he recognized as he slid past a servant who was trying to capture his attention with a 'Drink, Sir?' He pushed aside the momentary concern at Emma's appearance, reminding himself that he'd had no choice in his outfit so it was likely a fae's trick, and proceeded to step up to her side.

He glanced between them both before raising an eyebrow; that couldn't be seen too well from behind the intricate leaf mask that covered his face or the white ringlets that hung down in his face from his wig. "Offer?"

Marcy wasn't sure who was behind the mask and wig, but it was hilarious either way. She was pretty sure Finn wore something like that once to impress Bubblegum once.

"Man, I don't even know," Marcy said. "Do fairies eat humans? Are they like unicorns? Cuz if they do, maybe we just need to introduce them to pizza instead."

If they were on Ooo, that might have been an all too plausible solution. "I need to find out who I'm supposed to talk to first. Then I guess I gottah offer something for this Maya chick."

The voice sounded familiar to Emma, but she couldn't quite tell if it was him or not. Forgotten while Marcy talked though. Her mouth dropped open. "Eat humans? Why would anyone — you know what, plenty of things eat humans."

She cleared her head and returned to the task at hand. She pointed toward a Maya on the dance floor. "Maybe it's the one dancing with a Maya?"

"Unicorns?" Was the route Neal went, making a face behind his mask. In what world did unicorns eat humans? Of course, Emma had a point, so he pushed the thought away.

"They might tell you what they want once you find them," he suggested, with a shrug of his shoulders, looking off towards the direction Emma had pointed.

"Sweet! Thanks guys!"

Always the person to leap before looking, Marcy took off like a bullet, barely missing displaced and fae alike. She had no real thought in advance of what she was going to offer or how. She hadn't planned what she was going to say or even thought of the consequences if the first offer was rejected. Would she get another?

Emma and Neal were going to have to move if they wanted to keep up or save Marcy from herself. Well, move as well as they could in their courtly attire.

Emma's outfit wasn't nearly as constricting as some of the dresses around, and she was almost positive she could get to Marcy's fae before she got there with a poof of grey clouds. Instead, Emma followed as quickly as she could, muttering under her breath that she was going to get somebody killed.

"Dammit, Marcy," Neal muttered, before picking up his own pace to try to follow. He lagged a bit behind Emma, finding the combination of the tights and shoes making it hard to run.

Apparently Marcy tried the pizza route already and it had not gone well. The fae who had been dancing with Maya was now standing to the side, Maya passed off to someone else, while Marcy continued to argue.

"What do you even want a human for anyway? You know you have to feed them? Where are they even supposed to go to the bathroom here? My offer was so much better."

But the fae shook their head and waited for a better offer.

"Ugh. Fine. Whatever." Marcy's arms were crossed as she did her best to think of something else. She'd started with pizza. Then an extra large pizza. Then ten extra large pizzas. All of her attempts at using pizza had been denied. She didn't think food was the route to go.

Emma tried not to laugh. She really did, but she had to cover her mouth with her hand. Thankfully the mask disguised her eyes. It didn't help that she could hear Rumple's laughter again. Under her breath, she muttered, "Shut up."

After she was able to talk without chuckling, she tried to help Marcy. "Maybe try something else? Maybe jewels or gold or something enchanted?"

Neal rolled his eyes but there was a partial smile. As ridiculous as he felt in the getup, and he certainly did, he didn't mind a laugh at his own expense when it came to Emma. Of course, with the music playing, he didn't quite catch what she muttered.

"Did asking him what he want not work? Can't imagine something simple and direct would," he commented as he looped his thumbs through two of the loops on his pantaloons or what have you. "You got anything that's not common to this universe? Maybe from Ooo? Might be why they singled you out."

“Just that it wasn’t good enough,” Marcy complained. Despite being just over a thousand years old, her immortality cursed her with the eternal attitude of a teenager. If he hadn’t turned down pizza, she would have offered the groceries she got from Ooo.

Her arms crossed over defensively. Treasure and cursed weapons were always Finn and Jake’s thing. They had more treasure and magical items than they really knew what to do with.

“The Lunatic Bass?” Marcy offered. When the fae shook their head Marcy protested. “Come on! I had to sell the Tree House to get that! What’s the matter with you!”

She was starting to get frustrated. Marcy thought of Maja, The Sky Witch, and what she’d wanted. But that item was long gone and Marcy wasn’t sure she had anything like it to offer.

He watched the exchange between the two, casting an occasional side glance toward Emma, before he shook his head. He stepped forward, reaching out to take Marcy's arm, "Give us a sec," he said, in the direction of the Fae Marcy had been talking to. Then he gave her a gentle tug, nudging his head back and looked eyes with Emma so she might follow too.

Once there was some distance, he spoke to Marcline, quietly. "You got to sell it, Marceline. Don't just offer something wihtout an explanation. Give them a story. Make it worth their while, yeah?"

That didn't mean it needed to be true, as far as Neal was concerned.

"He's right. You have to sell it. It doesn't matter if the story you give them in bullshit either. Talk about why it's the coolest bass in all the land. Where it came from originally. How old it is. Why you would hate to part with." Emma grinned. "Especially why you hate to part with it. You're offering him something that he clearly doesn't think you care about at all. So pick something — maybe something else since the bass is kind of a waste — and really sell it and how much it breaks your heart to part with it."

And if that doesn't work, dearie? Emma's jaw clenched at that. Her fingers were no longer sparking (or maybe they never had), but it was there, right below the skin, the urge to just blast the hell out of all these fairies.

Marceline sighed. She was good at games, but usually they involved the truth just from a different perspective. It wasn't that hard. People mistook Marceline for evil all the time and sometimes it was fun to play with those expectations until they knew better.

She didn't have that right now.

"Okay, I'll try to sell them a story."

Marceline turned around and went back to the fairy. She did have the coolest bass in all the land. She had the axe bass. And she even followed their advice: "Listen, I don't want to part with this..."

And the truth of it was, she didn't want to part with the axe bass. Every word about it was true. That it was a weapon that been handed down the family for Eons, that her father had left it behind when he'd been summoned to bother protect her after the Mushroom War, that she had converted it to a bass just to piss him off. That it was one of the most important things she had left in her thousand years of living and that she would trade it to get Maya back.

When the fairy shook its head again, Marcy lost it. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU CREEP?" Flames burst from the eyes of the mask and her screech was as pleasant as the skittering feet of a thousand roaches.

Still she had to offer him something even better.

"That's a one of a kind axe, centuries old, and you'd rather keep a some random person instead? There's over six billion others just like her. That's the only one. Kind of feels like a bad call on your part." This was spoken not to Marceline, but past her, in the direction of the faerie she'd been trying to convey the value of her axe to. He didn't know if speaking up was going to make things better or worse but he figured if anything, it'd help to sell Marceline's pitch home. Even if he was downplaying the importance of the individual she was trying to save in a way that he didn't actually believe.

I don't appreciate liars, said the fae. Even Marcy felt a slight shiver of something, though she did not know what. It was enough to calm her down just enough to look between Neal and Emma. It was just so unfair.

"I don't know what to offer," she told them. She could lose. Marcy would fight every single fairy at the ball before she allowed herself to lose.

Being called a liar didn't phase Neal. It was who he had to be to survive for decades. In normal instances, he'd have given a shrug or a smart comment, but he didn't in this instance. Not when he was in a place where he didn't know the rules of operation yet. Instead, he looked to Marceline and drew in a breath.

"They want something in exchange for someone who's likely got people who care for her here." He didn't know Maya but everyone had someone. "If she was someone you cared about, would there be anything else you could offer? If it was one of your friends?" A beat. "Or Bae?"

Even though she couldn't see him, she could hear his voice in her head. Oh yes, that's your number one play, isn't it? Until it's not. Until you'd rather kill your true love instead. Emma's jaw tightened.

How many times had she sacrificed herself? For Neal, for Hook, for Regina, for her parents. She'd done it for anyone in Storybrooke who had ever taken her in and shown her kindness. It always trumped everything else.

"Sacrifice yourself." Emma drew in a breath. She knew that would likely hit a nerve with Neal. She'd done just that in his world one too many times and died. "It's what I'd do."
