Right so, I ain’t sure when we’ll be actually needing this, but I’ve gone and set up an emergency location for the Displaced for whenever shit hits the fan and we can’t go staying here in Tumbleweed. While I’d really like something like those bracelets we all had on the cruise for teleporting everyone no matter where they might be to be around for use, they just ain’t. Hit me up if’n ya think you can make something like that.

I’ve been working to finish adding up housing options and gotten some people to help limit the path of the local fauna that might’ve caused us all some issues if they were allowed to run around everywhere. It runs on solar power and backup generators. Wind power is getting installed soon once I figure out where would be best to go setting it up. There’s a greenhouse that’s already up and running and livestock are getting settled in this week.

[Pretend there's some pictures inserted here for everyone to see.]

So if’n you’re wanting access to it, what you’re gonna need is a portal set up in your house or your place of business (if its Displaced owned). Put your name down here if ya want in and we’ll get ya set up. Just like on the cruise, only the Displaced will be able to head through them there and back.

Hopefully it won't need to be used, but better to have something in place than not.

If it helps any, I've been able to communicate with all the dinosaurs I've come across. They're closely enough related to birds.

So how do these conversations go?

They are not smart. Follow directions pretty well, though.

Pea sized brains, is it? I can only imagine the thrilling conversations.

Food and territory. I guess it wasn't mating season at the time.

Thanks for that mental image, Sam. Sorry I asked.

It's pretty much what I hear in the background all the time.

To be fair, I think we all wake up to bird mating calls every morning. It's not that difficult to translate.

Really?

This sounds like a stupid question, but when you communicate to them, does it sound like ye olde English would to modern English speakers ears? Or does it not work that way?

Not really. It's slightly harder to get some concepts across, but bird intelligence varies a lot so I'm used to working with that sort of limitation anyway.

Oh yeah. I've heard how ravens and crows' intelligence are really high. And there's that viral video of a sea gull waiting for an automatic door to open so it can nick a pack of crisps from a convenience store's shelf. I remember reading something about how owls are supposedly not very bright, despite their reputation.

They're very very good at what they do, but I saw an ornithologist compare them unfavourably to a chunk of lino once and I can't really disagree. Social behaviour is usually a good sign of intelligence. Any bird that's a solitary hunter probably isn't too smart, not counting Redwing.

That bad, huh? There was a BBC programme where they tested the sound of different birds' wings as they flew, and the owl was the most silent of them at all, creating hardly any wind disturbance. So, you know, at least they've got that, huh?

What kind of bird is Redwing?

Now that I think of it, I mentioned my Natu to Rouge - are you able to communicate with bird pokemon? Or is that a whole different category?

They did one to test the accuracy of computer models of bird flight too which went a little viral because of the safety goggles.

Definitely some kind of large falcon. I got him in Brazil so there was a bit of a language barrier but I think he might be some kind of gyrfalcon hybrid based on size, maybe with a peregrine.

Yeah, I've got a Skarmory and Misty's got a Delibird.

I've got to show this to Sherlock. I think he'd appreciate it.

I didn't know that birds could do that, mate with other types of their species. But it makes sense. Dogs do it all the time, and cats.

Those Skarmories are pretty large. How's that Delibird doing in the Texas heat? Got it under air conditioning?

Q could use his own pair of safety goggles. I'll develop one.

In case he flies through some lasers?

I experiment in the flat, John. He could use a lab coat as well.

But, yes. I suppose we can't discount lasers.

How are you going to put a lab coat on a bird shaped like a cricket ball?

I'll have a coat tailored for him, obviously.

[Private to Sherlock]
What do you think about this whole portal thing to dinosaur island? Have you seen the information she wrote about the place?
