game plan
Who: Finn, Liam, Audrey, Eli, and Corey
Where: Their house
When: Morning
Eli woke to the sound of his phone, which was only odd because everyone that usually messaged him was in the house with him. He rubbed his eyes as he picked it up, frowning at the message from Jack. He sent one back, then another, before turning to wake up Corey. “Hey,” he said softly, touching her shoulder. “You awake?” He was still learning the difference between a sleeping heartbeat and a waking one, but if he was awake, then he thought Corey probably was too.
She'd taken a while to get the blood off of her, and to patch up the wounds she'd acquired. Thankfully, Eli had seemed...well. Just fine. It was weird, but a pretty big check in the plus column. She was awake, just sore. “Yeah,” she answered, voice quiet. “How are you feeling?” she asked, shifting to look at him.
“Like I’ve been in a fight,” he answered, his knuckles sliding down her arm. It was weird to have her in his bed, but he liked it. He liked knowing she was safe and that he could protect her, even if she didn’t really need it. “You?”
Corey was actually thinking the same thing. That it was nice to be in his bed, the soft warmth of the blankets, his body heat...it was pleasant. And it reminded her of the wildly embarrassing conversation she'd had with her grandfather about sex. At the time, she'd been fairly distant from the idea, since they hadn't actually had that much time to get very far even with making out. But right then and there? Oh she realized just how quickly something like that could come up. Because even if she knew she should get up and dressed, she wanted to slide over and snuggle him instead.
Her lack of answer was even more distracting, causing him to temporarily forget that he’d had a reason for waking her up. What he’d rather do was lay his head back down and pull her up against him, then maybe kiss her like he’d had a chance to do on a few occasions. But they’d never been in his bed, and he had the feeling that if he started that, he’d not be getting up anytime soon. “I got a text from Jack,” he said, lightly brushing her hair out of her eyes. “He’s one of the werewolves. He has a friend that’s been kidnapped and he needs our help. Are you up for it?”
She glanced at his phone, trying hard to refocus herself. She took in the information. Nodding, she winced faintly as she stretched, bruises making themselves known again. “I'm up for it,” she told him. She wasn't injured enough to take her out of the fight yet, so she wasn't going to be out of it if someone needed her help. She knew her grandfather would likely protest, but whether he liked it or not, she'd been dragged into this. He'd have to deal.
Eli frowned as he noticed her wince, not sure at what point she’d consider herself out of the fight. If she was anything like him, that was up to the point where she was useless. He wanted to argue that she should stay in bed, but it wasn’t worth it. “You’ll let me know if it’s too much?” he asked, since that was the key. He didn’t want to see her get killed while trying to save someone else.
Sitting up properly, she stretched and cracked her neck, then back. “I'll let you know. I'm tougher than I look,” she said with a quirked half smile. After all, he'd seen that first hand, hadn't he.
“I know,” he said, returning her smile before he leaned in to kiss her. So dangerous, he thought as he slowly pulled away. “We should go tell the others. They’d want to help.” And he wanted them to help, which was just as important.
Nodding, Corey accepted that. Though she did hesitate just a second, wanting to kiss him again. Yeah, why this was hitting buttons she hadn’t been sure she had she didn’t know. Maybe it was the near death experience then snuggle time. Who knew. Either way she got up, having more discipline than that. She went to her bag, and got out fresh clothes, making sure the bandages she’d put on her wounds were secure.
Eli climbed out of bed, his eyes darting to the side to catch little glimpses of Corey. He hated feeling like he’d missed a chance to be close to her, but told himself there were more important things to tend to. Plus, she was still hurting, and he didn’t want to do anything that might aggravate her wounds. He grabbed a fresh pair of clothes and stepped into the bathroom, there for only a few minutes before he returned, letting her take a turn while he pulled on his shoes. It sounded like everyone else in the house was already up, but that was a good thing. Once Corey was ready, he could gather them all in the living room and fill them in.
Finn probably still needed a shower, but he felt a little better after playing with Liam for a little while. He was in the kitchen, finding something for breakfast, which was good considering his appetite was back because he hadn’t really eaten lately.
Liam was in his room, changing into a new set of clothing after the impromptu soccer game with Finn. It felt good to be doing something normal again but now that he was back in his room, his thoughts turned to the worries he had about turning. He wanted to turn, to do it like Audrey had, but he hadn't been able to tap into that change yet. Hopefully he'd get there soon, maybe with her help. Pulling on his sweatshirt, Liam started into the hallway to head downstairs.
Audrey had been practicing changing, and when she'd fallen asleep, she'd done it in wolf form. So, when she got up, she just padded out downstairs, shaking as she got her fur back to feeling good. She didn't like it when it was too patted down. She wound up following Liam as he was making his way down. She nudged into his leg only slightly to let him know she was there.
“Hey guys, can you come here for a minute?” Eli called out, taking Corey’s hand as they made their way to the living room. He looked towards the stairs in time to see Liam and Audrey heading their way and he smiled a little, seeing her in her wolf form. “You might want to shift back, Audrey.” She didn’t have to, but it would be hard for her to talk like that. “Finn?” he called out towards the kitchen.
Finn had just pulled a piece of toast out of the toaster when he head his name, heading that way with it in his mouth. “Yeah?” he asked, frowning at the gathering of all of them. First there was Audrey in her wolf form and the rogue, who looked like she’d been through hell and was here this early in the morning.
“Corey was attacked last night,” he said, squeezing her hand. “Some people broke into her house and tried to kill her. Or take her.” Maybe it was one, then the other, after she put up too much of a fight. They’d never know exactly what their plan was, since they were all dead. “And then Jack texted me last night. A friend of his was taken and he’d like our help in finding her.”
Liam had beamed Audrey a smile when she bumped into his leg, but he got solemn when Eli started gathering folks. If Audrey wanted to change back, she'd have no clothes to wear and he figured she'd go do that in her room, but he reached to pull off his sweatshirt, leaving him in just the sweatpants and t-shirt under it, and set it on the ground beside Audrey to see if she wanted it.
He looked back up as Eli let them in on the happenings and his eyes went wide and straight to Corey. Worried, he flicked them back to Eli again and spoke up. "Who? Who got taken?"
“A girl named Maggie. They burned her house down,” Eli said, still a little thrown by Liam’s talking. He knew it was a thing now, but it would take some getting used to.
“Who is Jack?” Finn asked after swallowing, looking around at everyone. He was one for helping, he always was, but what stake did they have in this other than the fact that someone had attacked Corey.
Corey glanced at them all, definitely looking like hell, but not like she was letting it affect her. “I'm fine,” she told them first. “They...bit off more than they could chew, messing with me.” Which was an understatement. At the questions Eli got about the girl, she focused on him, so he could go on.
Audrey didn't like the sounds of any of this, and with the offer of the sweatshirt, she got it in her jaws, then ducked into the other room for a quick second to change back to a person, then pull it over her head. It just barely covered her lower bits, but she came back out anyhow. At least she wasn't flashing anyone officially. She tugged her hair out from the collar of the shirt, not interjecting anything just yet.
Liam had questions, a lot of them, but then Audrey came back and he was definitely caught up in staring. Audrey, in his sweatshirt, like a dress. A small, short dress. He coughed a little and averted his eyes when he reminded himself that everyone else was in the room too. He needed to get this under control because whatever he was feeling right now, he didn't want the others to be around for it. Also, he wasn't exactly sure now was the best time, what with Corey looking beat up and a missing girl named Maggie as the topic of their conversations. "Ok so…we need to find Maggie. Corey's staying here, right?" He asked, thinking that was necessary, that she stay somewhere that was safer and not her own place, considering she'd been sought out at her own place. "Do we know anything else about what happened to Maggie?"
“Jack’s one of the werewolves I met at that meeting they called,” Eli said, well aware he was simplifying his answer. They wouldn’t understand the loyalty he felt towards him if he barely could. When Audrey came back in the room, his eyes darted over to her, but he dragged them away, purposefully not looking at her at all. He focused instead on Corey and Liam’s questions. “Staying here? Um…” He looked to Corey for an answer. He assumed she wanted to help look. “I don’t really know anything else, but if people are being taken, I want to help. I want to stop it.”
Finn almost got completely distracted by Audrey in the short sweatshirt. He was staring, almost obviously so, at Audrey’s legs, his mind involuntarily shooting to thinking about having sex with her like he had before. Only this time it was much closer to vivid fantasy over idle curiosity. It wasn’t until Eli answered his question that he glanced that way, clearing his throat and shifting a little from foot to foot. “While I want to help, we don’t seem well prepared for this. We know very little about either one of them and I’m not sure where we even start.”
“Corey isn't staying here,” Corey said. “I'm going with. I'm fine. I'm good at this kind of thing. Don't worry about me. But I'm in.”
Liam was trying hard to focus on anyone but Audrey, but it was still so hard. Especially because she was wearing his sweatshirt and nothing more. He really focused on listening to the others talk and nodded a little. "…If someone kidnapped one of you all, I would be out looking," Liam said. "I don't know if Maggie has people to look for her like we do."
Eli was completely taken off guard by Finn’s hesitation. Of all of them, he’d thought Finn would be up for a fight, the opportunity to help someone in need. If nothing else, it sounded like a quest. He was glad that Liam spoke up, even if he still found that a little weird as well. “I don’t think Jack would’ve asked for my help if he didn’t need it,” he said. “And we might not have a lot to go off, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look. We’re all trapped inside the dome, so someone’s bound to find her eventually.” He paused, looking at the group. “If people are being kidnapped and attacked, I want to do what I can to stop it.”
Finn had let his eyes drift to Audrey again, though in his defense that was because Liam was speaking. That should have been enough of a distraction, but Audrey’s legs were there and that was something else. He really wanted to touch her and kiss her all over again. And feel those legs around his waist. Eli pulled his attention back and he shook his head, taking a step forward. “I never said he didn’t need our help. I said we don’t know who he is. Or much about this girl going missing at all. What are we going up against? Do they know who took her? I want to help as well, but I won’t put this team in jeopardy by running blind into a quest we aren’t fully prepared for.” Someone had to keep their crew in mind first. Eli had said it himself, Liam and Audrey might be wolves now, but they weren’t fighters.
“I don’t have any answers for you,” Eli said, growing irritated by how distracted both boys seemed to be by Audrey. Eli wasn’t looking at her, but it was clear that the other two were. “You know what, Corey and I are going to start looking. Maybe once Audrey puts some pants on, you’ll have enough brainpower to realize that this is the right thing to do, even if we don’t know anything. Give me a call, okay?” He was ready to go. Daylight was wasting and he wasn’t going to do this at night.
This time when Finn stepped forward he moved in front of Eli, focus on the other boy completely. “My brain works fine. Which is why I’m not ready to rush into danger at the word of a stranger. I never said it wasn’t the right thing to do, I said it could be dangerous. We spent too long unprepared for battle. I won’t do that again.” His tone was strong, sure, but not entirely the Ranger. It sounded like him, words that he would say, but Finn wasn’t feeling like the Ranger. The Ranger would have run headlong into this wouldn’t he? But the Ranger was still taking charge in its own way. Stepping up as leader. “Audrey. Get dressed,” Finn said, not looking at her. “Let me change and get my weapons. Figure out who the best tracker of the three of you is.” Finn gave Eli another stern look before walking away, passing closer to Audrey and reaching out to squeeze Liam’s shoulder. “We leave in ten.”
