Ladies, gents, guys, dolls, and rabble.
We've been trying, but it can't exactly have escaped your attention that things are quiet around here, and we've been losing players without attracting new ones as replacements.
The following characters have been retired this week:
buttonmantim bettingman bobbyhushhush shadowman
through inactivity.
Valiant effort, but we never really got enough players or characters to build up momentum, and therefore, we're announcing the closure of the game.
The comm will remain, and if any of you want to keep using it to play your characters in this world, you'd be very welcome to, but mod plot posts will cease, and the two week posting rule will no longer be enforced.
Thanks for all your efforts - we've had a great time here.

Plot is now up for this week!
Right now, that empty club's up for grabs. If your character wants in on it, wants to jump ship, wants to take an interest - shout up here. We're thinking that vitale's probably going to take an interest, but it's all open right now.
And don't forget, you can currently have up to three characters - so if you're running less than that and you're active here, take a thought about another. Maybe an Italian. Maybe a private dick. Maybe a clean cop. Hell, whatever takes your fancy. The Fury don't turn its nose up at any walk of life.
Long as they've got the money to pay their tab and the wits to keep their lips from flapping.

We've got lots of lovely characters here, and we're at a fantastic point - almost anyone can meet almost anyone, and anything can happen. But! We know that sometimes it's not easy to get hold of someone on email or IM and ask them for a thread - especially if you don't know them.
So - here's the idea. You post a comment here, with your character's name, and other people reply to say they'd like to thread with them. And you go and leave comments to other characters to say that you'd like to thread with them! And lots of threads ensue and characters get to know each other.

The observant among you will have noted that we've passed the weekend to post plot - and no plot has been posted! There are two reasons for this. First, because IJ's been down - a lot - which makes it tough to post anything at all.
Secondly and mostly, because you all are so fab, plot is ticking away neatly in threads!
David's chasing information, Marco's killing people in messy ways. Daniel's beginning to take a personal interest in the club, and John's off, ahem, active duties. Stellan and James are slowly discovering scraps of information from the remaining scraps of their prisoner, and it's all progressing!
If anyone's got anything larger scale that they want to happen in plot, just let us know - either here, or on the mod email. We're always happy to take suggestions, and throw ideas around.

Hi all!
It's Fan', bringing you a new pup because I can't quite help myself and I've been keeping Aidan in the back of my mind for far too long. So here's Aidan Walsh!
He's a cop. He's kind of... unstable. But he digs the Fury! Most of the time. Profile's in his journal.
Very very very much looking forward to threading him with your pups. Hit me up if you wanna!
Also Terryl we should thread something with him and Nate since we're Scott-less, and that's the only way to get your pups not to be taken down to the precinct. :)

Hi! I'm Karen and I'm brandy-new to That Jazz, although I think I know a bunch of you from other games.
You can find me all over the place: AIM -- matsujo9 & kmegatwork Email -- matsujo9 @ gmail.com LJ and IJ -- matsujo9
This gal is Zeta (pronounced Zaytah) and she's a new entertainer (singer/dancer) at The Fury. A Chicago native, she's fought tooth and nail to get where she is and she isn't giving it back, thank you very much.
Looking forward to this!
P.S. -- I've mostly played in past tense games so please be patient with me while I get used to the whole present tense thing! Thanks!
P.P.S. -- I'm on the East Coast of the States.

Hi everyone! I'm Michelle and I just joined a couple of weeks ago. I was so excited to see an ad for this that I think I actually squealed. I'm fairly new at this so I'm a little nervous, especially after reading a few older threads and seeing how great you all are.
I'd also like to introduce everyone to Kate. She loves shirking responsibility, mouthing off and always having a good time, not necessarily in that order. My contact info is in Kate's userinfo in case any of you would like to talk about...well, anything really, just know that I'm on Pacific time. I look forward to playing with you all!

As promised...
To refamiliarize everyone with the plot so far, here is timeline of what's been happening. The dates on this timeline are based off of John's original post about finding the body, and in no way match the dates of anyone's posts after that. We'll follow this calendar in dating future action posts.
As further developments occur, we'll add them to the timeline, so you might want to bookmark this page. Also, not every post in the comm is linked here - just the ones that are plot relevant.

and All That Jazz - relaunching |
Public |
Premise || Characters/Claims || Apply || Rules
1926, Towertown, Chicago.
Prohibition's in full force, and the mob rule the streets. Speakeasy bars and dance halls thrive, serving illegal liquor, playing hot jazz, funding the mob and dodging the law. Go to a blind pig or some other dive, you'll find them serving moonshine whiskey or bathtub gin in cracked teacups. We're better than that. Half the Chicago PD drink here, The Fury's a top-notch joint. Specialist, too, which you've maybe noticed. Drinking alcohol's not the only illegal activity goes on here. We're a screwed up set, but it works. Everyone's got dirt on everyone else, and there's not one of us dares spill it for what the rest have got on us.
That's all swell, but there's trouble on the horizon. There's a new guy in town. An Italian. Trying to muscle in on territory, carve out his own place in Chicago's underworld, and carve is the right word. A body's been delivered to The Fury's doorstep, and the last shipment of liquor got itself intercepted before hitting the docks. The game's in play, and no one knows where the next move's going to end. One thing's for sure: no one's going down without a hell of a fight.
Applications welcome at any time - play relaunches September 14thPimp us out! Invite people! Let's have lots of fun new characters to play when we relaunch.

So...as everyone's noticed, the game's not been very active lately.
After some discussion between the mods, we've decided to revamp the premise and tweak the rules. Take a look so you'll be clear about everything, but the biggest change is that our pups will no longer be the actors/musicians in an alternate reality. Instead, our pups will be portrayed by the various actors/musicians. Think of it as them being cast in a movie set in a 1920's speakeasy. What this means, though, is that you may need, or want, to change your pup's name. We hope you'll decide to stick with current first names, but the choice is entirely yours. Surnames, though, should be changed. For instance filler_up will now be known as Nathan Fillbrandt.
The other change you should be aware of is that all plot advancement will be in the hands of the mods, but that doesn't mean we don't need the pups to play! Every two weeks, beginning September 7, one of the mods will post an Action Post advancing the plot. Pups will then have the ensuing two weeks to respond to that development - although we won't pounce on you if you want to respond to an old Action Post after a new one's been posted - and how they react will determine the next development. We aren't deleting any of the old threads, and are staying with the currently developed plot. We'll be posting a timeline of events to this point before the first Action Post goes up so everyone can refresh their memory.
What we'd like from all of you now is to let us know if you're still interested in playing and the new names of your pups. Please comment to this entry by September 7 so we can all know who's who from here on out. And while you're at it? Pimp us to your RPing friends, let them know we're looking for players, and don't forget - you can have up to three pups in the game!

Hi there. I'm Dea. Vae waved this in front of me and I'm so useless at resisting temptation. I'm pleased to meet you all! I'm in Bangkok, Thailand (which is GMT+7) so I'm on at weird hours - although I sleep at weird hours as well so I'm not entirely sure which timezone that makes me.
I come bringing with me this guy here. This is Christian Kane. He's a construction worker by day, a card sharp by night, and just an all-round lover of fun and games. I put his full biography thing here. If anyone's likely to know Chris in any way, please let me know! He'd love some connections.
I'm found at dealiberty on AIM, and my email is dea.liberty (at) gmail.com.
I'm really looking forward to playing with you all and thank you for having me!

Righty-ho. This is the place to sign up for the wonderful 'Showdown at the Pier' thread, which should involve all in the mob and anyone else, like our beloved cops and intrepid reporters.
Because there are a lot fo us and we are in all different time-zones, and this might be a messy free for all with no specific order of tagging, I'm going to say go for it and if there's a tiny bit of 'he moved left while Paulo moved right' kind of godmodding, then I'm ignoring it because otherwise I don't know if this will work. Or finish before I go on holiday in July.
So James is gathering his crew to go and surprise the new family's henchmen trying to nick their shipment at the pier. Who wants to go fill them full of lead?

Hey all! It's Fan', with a new pup: meet Stellan Skarsgård!
He works for James Callis, does pretty much anything the man needs him to. He's also, unlike his boss, very friendly and laid back! So don't hesitate to go and talk to him if you see him off duty at the Fury. If he likes you he'll offer you a glass of vodka.

Hello! I'm Jen, I live with Lizzie in good old London town and I've been persuaded to bring in Gabriel Byrne. Info on him can be found in the journal, but it's safe to say that he's not much of a nice guy. Bosses within the Irish mob don't tend to be. He's an incredibly strict Catholic who believes by killing 'sinners', he's freeing them to run into the open arms of the Lord. Yes, he will read you your last rites or a nice Bible passage right before he blows your head off. His 'family' are looking to acquire more territory, so beware.
I can be reached on how to quit you on AIM or dissect.girls@gmail.com on e-mail and GoogleChat.

I am just going to apologize here, because it'll make me more likely to behave in the future:
My thread with Brendon has been all over the place with tense shifting. I'm usually better than that, but I've been juggling a couple of games, and not realizing how badly I was sliding until right about now. It's obviously too late for me to go back and edit what's there, but I swear that I will pay better attention and stop doing that.

Character intro |

Ladies and gents, guys and dolls, may I introduce to you Daniel Craig.
You probably won't encounter him, or interact with him.
In fact, pray that you don't. He's James' direct superior, and liaison to a few legit authorities and more who aren't. It's safer not to be on his radar.

Apparently I'm a masochist. As soon as our delightful mods raise the character cap, I pick up another one. This is James Callis. He's a mobster. And slightly unhinged. And terrifying. There's more about him in his journal, which should give you a flavour of what he's like, but he will be at The Fury quite a bit, keeping an eye on things and being rather pleasant, if cold, so please feel free to chat to him. He might give you five minutes - a few more if you interest him. Er, be careful how you interest him. Especially if you have children or pets.
And could I have created a character who is more unlike the actual James Callis? I feel so sorry - I think I should apologise to him. In no way is James a sadist, he's a lovely man that pops in on his mum and dad quite a bit.
Lizzie x
