"Do you ever have the feeling that something's not copacetic and you don't know nothing from nothing even though you're hitting on all sixes?" Bren asks the person next to him at the bar. He's a little bouncy, knee moving even though he's sitting, but he seems pretty damned sobber.

"Do I ever," Tricia replies with a wry twist of her lips. She doesn't know this young man; he wasn't here when she first frequented the Fury, a few years ago. But she caught him on stage earlier and he is definitely something. John wouldn't hire anyone, after all.

What's most impressive, though, is that he seems to have hit the head on the nail as far as her own state of mind is concerned. Talking to James the previous night had yielded nothing, and today's findings had been just as meager. Nobody in the force had been of any help. She'd actually taken the time to change into a suit before heading over here, however, and she felt much more at ease in the pinstripes than she had in her flapper's dress the previous evening.

"What do you do about it?" he asks politely, pushing his hair back a bit. He's out of costume, hair still a little damp from cleaning the makeup off his face and the grease out of his hair.

She turns on her stool a bit to face him as she answers, pushing a stray strand of hair back behind her ear. "Usually, coming to a place like this and dancing for a while helps. And this here is better than most 'places like this'," she adds, because she means it. The Fury's something special, or she wouldn't have come back after this long.

It's still a usually, because what she did learn was that her disappeared man used to come here, too. It's not a coincidence she much likes. She can't afford to believe in coincidences, after all.

She smiles at the young man, simply because it's in her easy nature to smile. "What do you do about it?"

"I ask beautiful women to dance with me," Brandon smiles, hopefully, promptly, trying to look sweet and innocent and mostly managing.

She has to laugh at that, not at all meanly, really just amused. "Very smooth answer. Brandon, right? I like to be certain of the name of the man I'm dancing with."

"Brendon Urie," he stands, then half-bows, offering her his hand.

"Tricia Helfer," she answers as she takes his hand, slides off the stool and makes a half bow of her own.

She's a bit taller than him, but nothing that would be an actual hindrance on the dance floor, not if he knows what he's doing. Good, because now that he's put the idea in her head to dance, there's nothing she'd like more.

He grins, taking her hand, and leading her carefully to the dance floor. He can dance because well. Aubrey insisted and Brendon had been kind of whipped. Still is, in theory.

He lifts and eyebrow and holds his hand a little above her hip, asking for permission.

It's pretty endearing that he thinks of asking her permission, when she's just agreed to dance with him and she clearly looks like the type of dame who can take care of herself. The men's suit will give that impression.

"You're almost going to make me want to lead," she tells him with another smile, nodding her permission. Well, he'd still need to be able to follow, but many men can in the Fury.

"And you've done a great job of it. It's sad that I'm not used to that anymore," she acknowledges with a smile and a wink. A smile that transforms into a beam as the band changes tunes. "Oh, I love this song."

It turns out that Brendon can in fact lead, and leads pretty damn well at that. He's got the rhythm down right, and that's the most important thing in any dancer. It's good to let go a little, try and push her current case out of her mind and just enjoy herself the way it almost feels like she'd forgotten how to.

He's careful with her, gentlemanly, and trying to make sure she has fun, keeps the dance fast and just. Enjoyable.

Always make sure the lady enjoys herself.

Which, as far as she's concerned, means that the man had better be enjoying himself too. Dance is a lot like sex that way; better if both parties are having the time of their lives. Of course it's way less intimate, but it's also something she'll indulge in without a second thought, unlike pitching woo.

"Thank you," she says with a radiant smile as the song finishes. She wouldn't mind another dance, of course. Kid can swing. "One more?"

"Anyone's only ever as good as their partner," she points out with a genuine smile, and the next dance is just as much fun as the previous one. By the time they're done, she's feeling a bit thirsty, and nods towards the bar.

"Let me buy you a drink. To thank you for that." She doesn't mean anything more by the offer than buying him a drink, and she has no more qualms offering to buy a man a drink than she does wearing suits. It is who she is.

He puts his hand on the small of her back to guide her back to the bar, "That would be great, yeah."

Brendon's a lady enough that it doesn't even strike him as odd she'd get him a drink instead of the other way around.

She gives him a smile that's half touched, half amused at the stool pull. "Thank you." She turns to Nathan when he comes over. "Could we get a glass of soda water and a smoky martini? Thanks honey."

She gives him a smile before he sets off to get her cocktail done, and she looks back at Brendon. "How long have you been working here, Brendon?"

She has to wonder how old he is exactly; he looks he's just made it to twenty. But he's been doing this for three years already, and just because he has an easy smile doesn't mean he's not seen his share of ugly, not to mention lived through it.

"Been a while, huh," she states. "How d'you like it here?"

"You can ask," he says n the same sweet tone he's always used, but well. That his immediate response isn't 'yes' is a sign there's a brain in there somewhere.

She smiles at Nathan as he gets them their drinks, and pays for them.

She likes the kid's answer. It's a good thing that there is a brain in there somewhere, not that she doubted it. Tricia likes people to have brains, especially when they're cute, and good dancers. Tends to mean they live a little longer than other folks.

She takes a sip - as good as ever - and when she speaks her voice is a little lower, more intimate. "What were you talking about, earlier? Saying something's been off?"

"And kind of modest about it," she completes that with a nod. She pushes a strand of hair back behind her ear, gazing around the Fury. "I don't know, people have been on edge. There's a buzz in the air, you know?"

She pauses for a second, looking at him in a way that's part amused, part something else. "What's not to be bothered about?" she replies noncommittally. "I come here to relax. I don't like it for things to be tense. Nobody's going to relax on a powder keg."

And a powder keg's exactly what it feels like. Things could explode any second.
