Closed to Scott (for now)
Well, it has been a very dull and uninformative night. James sighs, and drums his fingers on the table. Talking to Tricia was like hitting a brick wall repeatedly; he had found out nothing except she clearly wasn't waiting for someone, no matter how disappointed she had looked when she had finally left. He's already put in a call to check her out when the sun rises. You have to know who you are dealing with to be able to put them in their place.

And now he's itching for something to do, like something crawling just under the surface of his skin. He's not too sure what, but there's something he wants, a taste just out of reach, and he watches the patrons amble by, seeking out a face or some sign that shows weakness. And then he catches a glimpse of Scott retreating into his office, and he remembers the tenseness of his neck when he mentioned customer satisfaction, and there. Perfect. Someone to talk to. In soothing tones. Something to do that might quiet the itch for a while.

He stands up and pushes his chair in, taking his drink with him - his third, and he's aware he's feeling warm. Not enough to take the edge off, but noticeable nonetheless. James flicks his eyes over to John, busy talking to a flushing bass player, and then over to Nathan, who is inundated with customers. No one seems to notice him as he slips over to the office door and knocks lightly. A man's office is sacred, even James doesn't barge in unannounced.

Scott's just made it back to his office after a quiet, and typically unobtrusive trip through the club. He's barely had a chance to find the ledger he's looking for, certainly hasn't had a chance to get settled, when there's a knock at the door.

He sighs, reverses direction and puts the ledger back in the safe. He rubs the back of his neck as he stands, takes a deep breath and goes to answer the door. He's prepared to give someone a very firm rebuff, but he (understandably) checks the impulse when he sees who's standing there.

Instead, he steps back and holds the door open. "Mr. Callis. Please come in."

Far from relaxed, far from casual, but being, very, very polite. It's probably over-compensation, but at least it keeps him from snapping.

The politeness grates, just a little. Perhaps it's because everyone is being so damn polite, perhaps it's because James is in the mood to get through to a little honesty. Whatever it is, it makes James arch his eyebrows. "Scott." Delivered flatly while his eyes scan the room behind him. "I take it you must have a bottle stashed somewhere in here. Care to join me in a drink?"

And he walks past him, fingers trailing over the papers on the desk, searching for something almost automatically before he shakes himself out of it. Scott has nothing to hide on paper, oh no, it's all in his head. "People are on edge, Scott. It's not looking good."

Scott closes the door behind James, and he locks the door.

The flat tone isn't lost on him, and neither is the way Callis is prowling around his office like some great predatory cat, all but marking territory and very literally looking for trouble --and an excuse.

It's not the smart thing to do, but Scott's willing to trust his instincts on this one; he gives James just a bit of both. "People are on edge, or you are?" he asks, voice deceptively soft and pitched low.

James pauses, his finger still on the desk, and tilts his head down and to the side, half turning. "Excuse me?" he asks, but he heard Scott all too well, he just wants to clarify that the man is really going there.

He sets down his glass and fully turns to Scott. "What, exactly, are you implying?" He moves closer to him with every word, every sense on alert. People don't tend to challenge him. Either they are stupid, or about to die anyway, and Scott is neither of these. Which means there must be another agenda.

Scott takes a slow deep breath as James approaches. He turns toward him, and his posture shifts just slightly: his stance widens, feet sliding just a bit further apart and the tension's back in his shoulders and neck. He does not, however, move.

"I asked if you were on edge, Mr. Callis."

No, he's not stupid. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Playing with fire.

Interesting. He's pushing him. And none too subtly either. And it's getting a different reaction from James; he doesn't want to cause Scott pain, not like the normal pain he deals out, no, he wants to twist Scott in different ways.

"Well, for a certain definition of on edge. I would think I have every reason to be. Would you like, as you seem intent on doing so, to tell me what you think is wrong with me?" He's standing right in front of Scott, his voice low and slightly sinister. "Or perhaps you think you have the answer, the thing that would take my edge off?"

Scott isn't acting, but he drops the play abruptly. He does not drop his eyes - they stay firmly on Mr. Callis'.

"I think," he says, simply, gaze up and unwavering, though he's still wound tight with tension and awareness of James in his physical space. "That I would be an idiot to presume to know what you need, and only slightly presumptuous to realize that you're wound up."

"Well done," James murmurs, and smiles. "People are dumping bodies on my doorstep, and yes, I don't care how much it's your doorstep, for this purpose, it's mine. And I don't appreciate people leaving corpses that I had nothing to do with to clean up."

Calm rant over, he leans back and surveys Scott. This wasn't it, there was an undercurrent of something else running through the room. "Why are you testing me, Scott? What is it that you want? Are you unhappy? Feeling... unsatisfied?"

Scott has to physically stop himself from repeating James words back to him, verbatim and down to the silky, snide 'Well done'.

He takes the moment it takes, and takes a deep, controlled breath with it.

He has to decide how honestly to answer those questions, and in that lies the real danger. That's nearly ironic, or would be if it weren't so bloody stressful, and serious.

"You came in here for a reason," he says, voice low and level and steady, however Scott actually feels. "I am trying to determine just what that reason is. I am far from happy about the current situation -regardless of propreitary rights to the doorstep."

Unsatisfied - he hasn't a clue what to do with that.

"Mmmm." James hums and he rocks back on his heels, pushing his hands in his pockets, a glint of amusement in his eyes. "I did come in here for a reason. All those... people, out there. Nervous and yet somehow going on with their petty little lives. Perhaps I came in here for some substance." Scott can interpret that however he wants. "How do you cope with the current situation then?"

"All those people out there, going on with their petty little lives, take the edge off with what The Fury sells - drugs, alchol, sex." He pauses there, just long enough for emphasis. "Danger. How do I take the edge off?" Scott asks, and his eyebrow lifts just a bit with one corner of his mouth. "I find extreme sarcasm and a superiority complex work wonders. Did you still want that drink, Mr. Callis?"

It might have been the tension, it might have been the smile and the sarcasm comment, it might have been just because it was either this or smacking Scott's head against the desk. Whatever the reason, James pulled his hands out of his pockets and pushed Scott against the wall. "Not right now, no." And then he kisses him, hard, forcing his mouth open, not expecting much resistance, not if Scott knows what's good for him.

Scott's startled, but he's not exactly surprise. He has been pushing James to react, after all. He makes a low, startled sound right at the back of his throat as he moves with the push, and into the wall. When his back hits that wall he very deliberately gets his hands the hell out of the way - pivoted around, spread slightly so his palms are against the wall.

He doesn't resist James' mouth over his anymore than he did being pushed back into the wall, and he's completely willing to open up for the force involved, but there's definite tension in his body, a constant low growl in his throat and he's certainly not just passively accepting. He's there, he is him, and he is definitely participating.

Oh yes, this feels better already, Scott's tongue meeting his and it's sooner than expected but very satisfying nonetheless to be proved right. James nips at his bottom lip and draws breath before kissing him again, slightly softer this time, trying to gauge Scott's reaction. His hands relax their grip on his shirt and push up into his hair. "See? Better than a drink."

Scott inhales quickly at the nip, breath catching just a little before the exhale. He's aroused, aroused enough that he's just slightly rough in the second kiss, though still careful. It's the hands in his hair though that have him moving from getting a reaction to really giving one. His eyes shut, his head tips back very slightly, into the hands and against the wall and he flushes. It's arousal, yes, but it's also without pretense; it's not contrived or feigned. "Mm," he agrees, the timber of his voice a little lower, and with just a bit of a rough edge. "Much better. Sir."

The growing flush on Scott's skin creates a warm buzz of anticipation at the base of James' spine. So nice to have one's efforts appreciated. And then Scott is rewarded with a genuine smile at his 'Sir', the undercurrent of resentful respect running through it and this, this is so much better than he could have hoped for.

His fingers run over Scott's chest, lightly, before pushing away, keeping his mouth close to his ear to murmur, "Lock the door," and then James steps back to watch the man move.

Scott doesn't point out that he locked the door the moment James' stepped through it - it would only draw attention to the fact, and that's not something he wants right now. Besies, there's always more than one lock, and more than one level of security, and more can never be bad.

He returns the smile with a very slight one of his own as he pushes away from the wall and goes to the door. He checks the first lock, and slides the bolt into place above it. No one is coming through that door without an awful lot of effort and a death-wish.

James probably would have raised his respect for Scott even higher if he knew the man was locking doors behind him. It showed a great deal of sensible foresight. Or possibly presumption, and James would hate to think he was predictable. So maybe it was for the best.

"Come here." He pulls Scott back, thumbs hooking under his braces and pushing them off his shoulders, finding his mouth again, his stance relaxed now, even if it was thrumming with energy, letting Scott know if he wanted to touch him, he could.

Scott goes with James' pull, steps into him and the kiss without hesitation.

He angles his head to meet the kiss, with more heat than warmth, but he's more open about it, more relaxed and the sound he makes is closer to actually being a groan than a growl, this time. He doesn't touch James, not until the braces are off his shoulders, but then his hands do come up.

His respect is in the fact that he keeps his hands well away from James throat and face, instead curling one hand around James shoulder and pressing the other flat against his chest. For the moment, that moment, for all the energy and arousal coiling and crawling under his skin, he's just kissing James.

Mentally shifting gears, kicking his brain into a lower, more open and at least slightly more receptive place, where he -at the very least - can bend and yeild rather than having to be shoved there until something (probably him) snaps.

At first, James is appreciative of the way Scott yields to him, pliable under his hands, which wander over the man's chest until one cups the back of his neck, holding him while James explores his mouth. But then it becomes almost too soft, too pliable, and he requires the push and the pull of it, the heat and tension to make it real.

And to do that, he needs the man naked and worried, so he pulls his shirt out of his trousers and starts unbuttoning. Well, it wouldn't do to rip, now, would it? Well... maybe the one button, and that drops to the floor with a small sound that makes James smile into the kiss. Have fun explaining that one.

He backs Scott up against the desk and splays his fingers over the expanse of stomach his shirt reveals, pulling Scott to him so he can feel his body pressed against his. He kicks his legs apart and runs his hand up his thigh, over the hardness obvious in his trousers.

Yeah, having some yeild isn't going to stop Scott responding to that -- hard. There's no way for him not to tense up at having his legs forced apart or being trapped between that much heat, power and the desk. Just like there's no way he's not going to snarl when the button tears away.

Scott snarls softly, timed with the hand traveling up his thigh and over his cock. His fingers curl down on James, sudden tension that's not controlled and digging into muscle. He doesn't quite bite into the kiss, but there's still an edge of sharpness there, with that soft but slightly feral sound.

What he doesn't do is back away, or off.

The edge to the kiss makes James groan into Scott's mouth, a soft sound, almost like a purr, something totally at odds to the man in question. But he figures he's allowed to be incongruous.

Which is why he breaks the kiss and rakes his hand through his hair, and then yanks Scott's head back to bite at his neck, licking over it and then biting the same spot again, harder, hands almost scrambling to push his shirt off him, interrupting themselves to undo his belt, fingers warm at the soft skin of his belly, creeping under his waistband to trail over the tip of his cock, encased in cotton.

James is a silk man himself.

"I think I'm going to prefer you on your knees." Especially while Scott is looking so rumpled with red angry marks on his skin already and his mouth kiss swollen.

There is some very real resistance to having his head pulled back - not that it stops it happening but the tension there is undeniable - and makes his neck ache as much as the hand fisting in his hair stings. Then there are teeth at his throat, biting and that sting's sharp enough to layer on top and overtake everything else, heart suddenly pounding, vision bluring at the intensity of his fear/arousal response.

The sound it drags out of him, especially with the drag of Callis' tongue and return of his teeth, isn't loud but it's very definite - slow, low, a sudden exhale that is equal parts pain and appreciation and just plain pissed off at being held with his throat exposed. He has to let go fo James with one hand then, brace it back against the desk to support himself while James is pulling at his clothes.

Then there's the brush of fingers and Scott really tenses up, more than he already has been - not just his shoulders and neck, but stomach and thighs and building heat with tighteness, those muscles clenching as surely as his hand on the edge of the desk.

"Oh really?" he asks, eyes flashing just a little. Not threat, no, but there's still challege there, even through the confused, physical response. He's not playing games, now. Games stopped at the teeth over his throat, over his jugular.

It's just raw, animalistic response, and his pulse thundering in his ears and echoed in the lingering heat of James' mark on his throat and in his cock.

Oh, how exquisite. The tone of his voice, the hardness behind it, the way his entire body is taut against James', like an animal cornered and yet transfixed. It echoes in his body, arousal knot-tight in his stomach and a taste of something faintly coppery on his tongue. Perhaps Scott tastes like that all over. It's only slightly grating to admit to himself that he wouldn't mind finding out.

"Really." It's not hard to make that word knife-sharp, and even easier to lean in slowly and kiss him, so fucking gently it pains James, he hates to slow this down but some form of trust is necessary, if only to break it later. His hand rises, flat over his chest, pausing as it slides over Scott's nipple, brushing his thumb over it again and again, the pad of it sweeping round it. As soon as Scott shows any hint of relaxing he'll twist it between cruel fingers, but for now he's content to scratch over it with his thumbnail and push his hand over his cock at the same time.

James licks into his mouth with more heat, coaxing Scott's tongue to slide against his own, willing his hands to stop clenching the desk so hard, even if the knuckles are turning a gratifying white, and instead go back to touching James. It would be a little surrender, but an important one.
