RP: A promise is...
Date: 18 October 1997
Characters: Terence Higgs, Janelle Dorny
Location: Around London?
Status: Semi-Private
Summary: Terence takes Janelle out as a way of thanking her for her hospitality
Completion: Complete

Terence usually didn't do this formal, typical type of dating. It was tricky, almost a game, and somewhat unnecessary, he felt. Usually, when he was after the company of a woman, he'd find an attractive one in a bar after work, and occupy his evening with seducing her. When that didn't go well, he just erased her memory, no harm done to any party. But now, Janelle was forcing him to take her out on a traditional date. Maybe he had told her that she deserved something in payment for being a good dinner hostess, but Terence had put making good on that promise on the end of his to-do list, situated just above charming his boss's bollocks to sing.

Here and now, though, he put on his best charming smile and knocked on her door. Janelle was a rather uncomplicated girl, Terence thought. She had a pretty face, a body that he wouldn't mind getting his hands on, and she had all the right familial connections. He didn't think that taking her out tonight would be too big of an issue, especially if she meant anything by those teasing smiles she'd given him a few nights ago. The only complication that soured his mood was the dent that this dinner would undoubtedly put in his wallet; damn women and their obsession with fancy dinner dates.

Janelle had spent a rather lazy day alone in her house reading or looking at magazines. When the time came she had showered, dried her hair, and started getting ready for her night out with Terence. She rather enjoyed his company at her dinner party and the thought of attending dinner with him was nice because it was a one on one meeting.

After slipping into a stunning dress that formed to her body in all the right places she heard a knock on the door. She took one last look in the mirror and made sure her lipstick was not over her teeth and headed too the door. "Hello Terence," she said opening the door to him. I just needed to get my shoes and cover. She smiled at him as she walked back over to slip her feet into a pair of heels.

"Good evening, Janelle," Terence said as he stepped into her home. He smiled at her as she put her shoes on. Her dress fit like a glove, and while tasteful, really left little to the imagination. Terence didn't mind at all. "I thought that apparating might be the best way to get us to the restaurant. Mind if we go from here?" he asked.

He moved closer to her, his eyes dancing across her features. "Have you ever been to Circe's Grotto? I believe it's one of the best fancy places in our community, as you requested." Terence smirked as he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her against him as he prepared to apparate them there. "Ready?" he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.

"Oh no I do not mind at all," Janelle said as she placed her a cover over her shoulders and picked up her purse. She looked at him with a flirtatious smile as she walked towards him. She felt his arms move around her waist she nodded her head. "I have never been but I have heard good things," she mused as she let herself be pulled closer to him. Her lips hovered over his as she spoke, "I am ready."

Terence tugged her, and they were instantly moved to the restaurant. Her lips had been dangerously close to his in her apartment, but Terence didn't want her sitting through the whole dinner with romantic notions running wild through her head. He squeezed her waist quickly before he excused himself to chat with the maitre d'.

"This way, love, there's a table waiting for us in one of the more private areas," Terence said as he placed a hand at the small of her back, guiding her to the table he'd requested at the back of the restaurant. Once they were there, his fingers slipped over her shoulders to remove her cover and place it on the back of her chair. Terence took his seat across the table from her as soon as Janelle was settled across from him.

"The menu was fantastic the last time I was here, but it seems that it's changed, only for the better, I believe," Terence said as he gave it a once over. Several of the more basic dishes had vanished, replaced with more elegant and extravagant offerings. Terence smirked, wondering if the Grotto had properly disposed of the muggleborn chef that had once been in charge of the kitchen.

"You look fantastic tonight, as usual," Terence commented before he ordered a bottle of wine for them to share. "Are you trying to impress me, Janelle?" he asked with interest.

Janelle was a tad disappointed he moved away but she just watched him as he spoke the maitre d'. He really looked good tonight she decided, he always had good taste in what to wear. She grinned as walked back over and say that they had a table in a more private area, that sounded good to her. She felt his hand on the small of her back as she was guided to their table.

"Thank you for keeping your promise Terence," she said with a warm tone. She opened the menu and was very pleased to see the types of dishes. "Oh it is going to be hard to decide," she nodded her head.

"Thank you Terence you look good as well," she nodded her head, "And of course I dress to impress."

"I'm glad that you reminded me of my promise, I'd not want to make myself a liar," he said, a bit of a bitter edge in his tone, but nothing too noticeable. Terence was good at lying, he got paid to lie for the Ministry every day whether he was assuring an employee of impure blood about the security of their job, or whether he was tampering with muggle memories. It was probably his greatest gift.

"It's no chore to spend time with a beautiful woman, I'm glad that we're spending the evening together, love," Terence said smoothly. "I believe I'll have the seafood platter, but that's just the mood that I'm in." He fiddled with his wine glass for a moment before taking a sip.

"You may change your mind when I'm not in my suit," he commented over his glass of wine, his words hanging between them. "The most recent times you've seen me I've been all dressed up, Janelle. Come across me in the middle of my flat or on the street after work and you might not think that I look so good."

"Well I am glad you are not a liar about this," Janelle was pleased to be sitting here with Terence. He was definitely not bad to look at, and his company was always well received when it came to Janelle. She looked back at the menu for a moment thinking on what she wanted to eat, she liked the sound of the roasted chicken, it would probably blow hers out of the water.

"I bet you say that to all the beautiful women," Janelle laughed as she sipped at the wine. "This is delicious," she was never one to treat herself to wine like this. She closed her menu and looked at him with a grin. "I have decided on the roasted chicken."

"It isn't the suit I like, but it doesn't hurt the appearance either."

"All the credit for that goes to you, my lady," Terence said, raising his glass to her. "Thank you for helping me retain a bit of my...innocence," he added with a smirk. There certainly wasn't much, if any, of it left. "How else will I be rewarding you tonight?" Terence asked out of curiosity.

"I may, but that doesn't make it any less true when it comes to you," he said. When she'd decided on her meal, Terence called a server over and ordered for both of them. Once that was finished, he turned back to her with a smile before he refilled both of their glasses.

"It's not the suit?" he teased, quirking an eyebrow. "Then tell me, what is it you find so impressive about me?" Terence continued. His ego could always use a bit of massaging, after all.

"Well I will take the credit," she raised her glass and took a drink. "Innocence? I didn't know you had any left." Janelle raised an eyebrow at him, "I suppose everyone deserves a bit of innocence." Janelle sipped more of her wine when he asked about other ways he would be rewarding her. "Well I think I mentioned something about dancing, but it isn't necessary." With a flirtatious smile she continued, "Is there any way you would like to reward me?"

"Well thank you for the compliment," she was never one to reject a compliment and one coming from Terence was nice to hear.

"Well I like your stature and the way you carry yourself." Janelle nodded her head. "I also you have a handsome face." She was not embarrassed to talk about it at all.

"You're right, it's not likely that there's any left, deserving or not," Terence said without remorse. "But I feel comfortable admitting that, I feel like I'm in like company," he continued with a smirk.

"I won't completely object to the dancing, but I may have a different idea about it." Why were all birds obsessed with dancing? Terence knew that there were better ways to spend time together.

He leaned across the table and lowered his voice. "There are plenty of ways I could further reward you, but I'm not sure it would be appropriate to voice them right now," he managed to get out before the server returned with their meals.

"You are right about that," she laughed but it was a true statement Janelle seriously doubted she had much innocence left.

"Well we don't have to go dancing as I am sure we could find other things to do more worth out time." She liked to dance but when she had the chance to do other things to allow her in the same proximity then she would take it.

"Interesting you must expand upon that later," she winked as she looked down at the food that was placed in front of her. It looked really good. She started to eat and nodded her head in approval of the meal.

"It's not the dancing, I don't really prefer the club atmosphere," Terence said. Too many people packed into a warm, tight space had never really appealed to him. "Besides, I can think of more productive ways to touch you, if that's what you'd like," he added with a smirk. He probably would have chosen his words better with another woman, but Terence knew Janelle well enough to speak his mind most of the time.

The food came, the seafood was excellent, and he was pleased to see that Janelle seemed to be enjoying her meal. The experience hadn't been painful for him so far. Thank Merlin she didn't seem incredibly intent on dancing tonight. When they were both finishing their meals, Terence called a server over and asked him to box a few desserts for them to take out.

"I'll happily expand over dessert," Terence said with a smile as he poured another glass of wine for each of them. "Until then, tell me about things at the Prophet. Any interesting stories you're going to break in the next few days?" He had a few plans up his sleeve for the rest of the evening, but he wasn't going to immediately let her in on those.

"Yes the closeness and the amount of people. I prefer to do the touching and closeness to be more a private matter." She loved that Terence could speak the way he did around her. "You know I would like to experience that at one time or another." Winking she brushed hair from her face as she started to eat.

"Splendid!" She was definitely okay with expanding over dessert. She took the freshly filled glass of wine and took a large sip. "Well I don't really see the stories too much, but I really do enjoy my job. I really just deal with mail. I know a bit boring." She took a sip. "I did hear about an article but not so exciting it is involving the legislation being adopted over in France."

"Anything interesting going on with your work?" She sat back in her seat a bit and sipped at her wine. She was curious to see how this expanding over dessert would go.

"I'm glad that we can be honest with one another, Janelle," Terence said with a smirk over his wine glass. Merlin, even that was a lie. He didn't really fuss when it came to women, Terence knew what he wanted from them and what he didn't want, so he was happy that Janelle seemed similarly oriented.

"I might be doing some more work with the MLE in the near future, but nothing much more exciting than that. I'm happy whenever I get out from behind my desk," he said with a smile. He liked his job, he liked working for the Ministry, but he never forgot that he always had more important work to do.

A few boxes were delivered to their table, and Terence placed enough coins on the table to cover their meal before Janelle caught his attention again. "Let's see to these in a more private place, yes?" he asked as he stood from his seat and picked up their desserts.

"Me too," she nodded her head. Janelle didn't care if that was a lie or not because she just enjoyed the fact that Terence could speak the way he did to her. She hated when guys felt that they couldn't exactly lay thing on the table with her. They were similar and that was what she liked about Terence.

"Oh well that is something, more than me anyway." Janelle didn't think so highly of her career was it was but she was a lot better off than she was before at the tea shop. Janelle just hoped that this was not her last stop on her career path. "I doubt I would really fit in the Ministry myself."

Janelle stood up from her seat and grabbed her things. "Shall we?" She said moving closer to him.

Terence nearly made a comment about women in the workplace, but he kept the thought to himself. Prattling on about how women should concern themselves with activities better suited for their gender probably wasn't going to get him anywhere with Janelle, so he simply smiled at her.

He helped her replace her cover on her shoulders before his hands moved down her sides to wrap around her waist. "If I didn't know any better, Miss Dorny, I'd say that you seem very eager to get me out of public," Terence whispered, his breath warm against her ear. He squeezed her tightly against him, and they were back in her flat.

"Which dessert would you like to try first?" Terence asked once they had both steadied themselves. His hands lingered at her waist as he asked the question. He hadn't really thought about her since her dinner, but she did feel good against him.

Janelle felt his arm move around her waist like it had before, and she had to admit she liked the feeling of being this close to him. She felt his breath against her ear and she tried not to go into a putty like state at that. "Well I definitely wouldn't mind," she said quietly as h squeezed her closer and they were back in her flat.

"Hmm, the choices I have." Janelle grinned as her arm draped over his shoulders. "Well I wouldn't mind having a taste of my options." Janelle couldn't help herself as she leaned in closer, hers lips moving over his. Janelle finally let her lips touch him and kiss him softly.

Janelle Dorny was easy, Terence couldn't believe how easy she was making this for him. He hadn't completely expected her to make the move before he did, but he hadn't ruled it out as a possibility. Her lips touched his, and he held her fast against him as his lips moved against hers. He placed the take-out boxes on the nearest surface, which happened to be her coffee table, and his other hand moved quickly up her body to cup her cheek. He idly wondered just how many men she'd entertained, but he decided that it didn't matter too much as his lips pressed more firmly against hers.

"I'd say that's your best option," Terence commented as he broke the kiss, giving his lips the chance to move down her neck, worrying the soft skin at the juncture of her neck and shoulder between his lips. "I think I'd rather taste you now, save the desserts for later."

Janelle could play hard to get when she wanted to but why do it when you wanted to enjoy the fun just as much as the guy? She was going to enjoy her time with Terence, why not. Her lips against his as his hand moved to her cheek. Her body was against him and her lips moving with his. Terence was a good kisser.

She tilted her head a bit as his lips moved over the skin of her neck. "I think it is a damn fine option." Janelle let out a bit of a heavy breath as his lips caught her skin. Yes Terence was definitely good with his lips which made her curious as to what other things he was good with.

Terence laughed dryly at her comment. Janelle wasn't just easy, she was definitely a tart, and an eager one at that. He knew what he wanted, but Terence wasn't sure if it was most beneficial for him to take it now, or wait until later.

"This is how you wanted to be rewarded all along isn't it?" Terence asked as his fingers moved from her cheek down her neck along the line he'd kissed there. He pulled back, observing the way that her skin reddened where he'd placed his lips against her skin. "You want me, don't you?" Terence asked, quirking his lips as he awaited her response.

"Mmm, maybe," she laughed a little but then she felt his finger running down her neck where his lips had previously been. "I definitely don't mind this half of the reward," she would have liked just the dinner but this was definitely the icing on the cake in her opinion. "I won't deny I was always curious as to what it would be like to kiss you."

Janelle kissed his lips softly for a moment before pulling back. "I do, but then I think you already knew that." Of course she wanted Terence, who could say no especially after a few kisses like the ones he gave.

"Is that all you've thought about? Just kissing?" Terence asked curiously. He was smug, he knew it, but she knew it as well. She'd said that she wanted him, but Terence wanted to know just how much. She knew she couldn't say such things to a fellow Slytherin without completely explaining herself. His lips began to move down the other side of her neck as the hand that had occupied a position on her waist moved to the small of her back.

Tired of standing in the middle of her home, Terence moved to sit on the couch, bringing her along with him. "I thought we were being honest with each other, love. Are you being honest with me?" Terence asked, a gleam in his eyes as one hand moved into her hair, messing up the style a bit as his fingers tangled in the smooth strands.

Was she that transparent? Janelle didn't think she was but Terence had to know that she hadn't only thought of kissing him. She had been a hormonal teenager and Adrian Pucey had not been the only one on her mind in school. The thought of how to properly articulate and answer to the question vanished as soon as his lips found her neck again and his hand started to descend down her back.

Janelle easily followed Terence to the location of her couch, it was much better than standing in the middle of her flat. Her thoughts distracted by his hand moving into his hair. "Being honest with each other, right because that is what we do." She chuckled slightly at her own words and at the thought of being honest, could she really be honest with him? "No that isn't all I have thought about or am thinking about," Janelle finally said giving into Terence.

Her hand moved along his side as her eyes examined his face and stopped on his lips. "I am curious to see just what else you are good at other than this," her lips close to his as she finished what she was saying and kissed him. The last person she had been in this position with was Roger, her parents would definitely be more inclined to approve of this.

This was a difficult dance for Terence, stuck between saying his goodbyes and pressing the situation. He didn't mind women who tried to take charge of situations like these, but he also liked being control. He knew that he could treat Janelle like every other woman he dated, but he also wondered how she would react if he treated her with more respect. The latter thought was fleeting as she kissed him again.

"Why not? Honesty's not too difficult," Terence replied. "I've hardly anything to hide," he added with a smirk. "Are you going to tell me? Letting my imagination run with all the possibilities could be dangerous."

"Trust me," he said as he turned into her and shifted closer, his hand moving further down her back to cup her bum, "I don't participate in activities that I'm not good at."

"No is suppose it isn't the hardest thing in life to do," Janelle mused for a moment unsure of what to say. Janelle was curious how things would play out tonight. She always managed to choose the people that weren't good for her, and she had this sneak feeling that Terence would just be like all the others. Janelle told herself, or tried to tell herself, that she didn't mind when she wasn't called the next day. Of course sometimes she was the one that left purely into the interaction for the fun, like with Roger. The only reason this was any different was because it was Terence, a respected man, a pureblood and someone her mother would die to set her up with. Janelle found a moment of amusement in the idea of herself settling down with Terence no less, or someone similar.

"I am curious to know just what is going on in that imagination of yours." She felt his hand moving down over her bum as she shifted even closer to him. "It is good to know you only participate in activities you are a good at, it is rather pleasing." Janelle let her lips ghost down over his neck a bit before she started to loosen his tie. "I have been curious about how your lips and hands would feel on various parts of my body." Janelle loosened his tie a little more.

Janelle responded well to his advances, showing no signs of resistance to his touch. Terence smirked inwardly; he knew what could happen tonight, no doubt, but he wasn't sure that he wanted to take advantage of that opportunity. Things might be more interesting if he didn't.

"There are too many possibilities in my imagination to properly describe," Terence said as his hand moved carefully back up her spine.

Her fingers loosened his tie, and Terence groaned at the feeling of her lips against his neck. As difficult as it was, his hands moved to cover hers on his tie, stopping her movements. "What sort of a gentleman would I be if I took complete advantage of you on our first date, Janelle?" He kissed her lips lightly as he pulled away.

Nicola was admittedly very surprised when Terence's hand when over hers to stop her movements. She was she sure hadn't ever been stopped before. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "You aren't taking advantage of me," Janelle looked at him trying not to appear off put but she was, she didn't know if this had ever happened to her. Was he pulling her leg or was he actually going to say no?

"So you are actually planning on having a second date with me Terence?" Janelle wouldn't mind but she was admittedly a little surprised, she didn't really expect it. Still she was a little bothered by the fact he was putting a stop to this.

Terence raised his eyebrow at her reaction. He'd given her the opportunity to keep a bit of respect for herself, but it seemed that Janelle was denying herself that. Interesting. He wondered why.

"Are you trying to take advantage of me, then?" Terence teased. The idea was ridiculous, he would never give her complete control of what happened between them, but it didn't hurt to have her think that. "You shouldn't feel that you really have to give me anything tonight or do anything particularly out of the ordinary to impress me, that's all," he said as he twirled a lock of her hair around his finger. Terence didn't need Janelle for shagging, there were plenty of whores around for that. While he didn't peg any woman capable possessing good intentions or proper respectability, he thought that Janelle could have those things for herself if she truly desired them.

"Perhaps," Terence commented noncommittally as he traced Janelle's cheekbone with the hand that hand been moving along her back. "I told you, it's never too much of a chore to take a pretty witch like yourself out."

"Take advantage of you I didn't think you would ever let that happen," she chuckled, "So I seriously doubt I could take advantage of you." Janelle was surprised at how the events had changed this evening but she appreciated it all the same. She wasn't sure just being tossed aside afterward by Terence would have exactly sat well with Janelle. Plus she didn't need Terence for that she could always drop by at Roger's if she felt so inclined.

"Well I know I don't have to do anything," Janelle wanted to but she knew she didn't have to. "I would like to but I don't have too." She felt his hand on her cheek and she almost felt her self flush a little with a blush. "Well I wouldn't mind spending more time with you."

"Just because I wouldn't let you take advantage of me doesn't mean that you wouldn't try," Terence said smartly, the corners of his lips turning up in a grin. He pulled her lips to his once again, kissing her with a softness that he wasn't sure he even possessed.

He kissed her once more, a quick peck of his lips against hers before he stood from the couch. "Send me an owl when you have a free night next week," Terence said with a smile. Terence hadn't completely sealed the deal with Janelle tonight, but he knew that she'd be thinking of him. She was obviously used to having a man in her bed, so it wasn't likely that she'd be forgetting a man who seemed to respect her. He would be in her thoughts, Terence counted on that.
