Lila stood at the base of the stairs. They looked old and weathered despite the fact that they hadn't been here yesterday. She flexed her fingers and cracked her neck, dancing in place. Stalling. What was the worst that could happen if she dashed up the stairs? Probably nothing. Right?
Oh, who was she kidding? These steps were an obvious invitation. Probably a trap. Or a test. Maybe they would send you home if you were willing to take the risk. Maybe they'd take you somewhere worse. No way to know except to try it. Which reminded her, she was stalling.
"Faint heart ne'er won fair maiden!" she shouted, and dashed up the stairs, intending to leap from the last one.
She never made it. She stumbled instead, her feet finding roughly level ground instead of empty air. The light was changed, and the air smelled different. No hint of sea air, though she caught a faint scent of smoke from somewhere. The sun was higher in the sky. Nonetheless thunder rumbled in the distance, and the air felt different on her skin.
Probably because she was wearing some kind of long dress, with layers and layers of skirt. The sleeves came down to the middle of her forearms, and her tits were hanging out. Well, no, not really, but they felt pushed up to her neck and she definitely was showing more cleavage than she had been. "If I don't get me learther jacket back, I'm gonna be bloody pissed!"
Done examining her clothes, Lila looked around. She stood atop a hill, amidst a number of standing stones. The land fell away in every direction. She thought she saw a village or town in the distance. The thunder rumbled again, and Lila realized it wasn't thunder. It was...gunfire? Maybe artillery.
She heard movement behind her and whirled, grabbing for the knife that wasn't where it should have been. She gaped at the girl she saw facing her. "I know you!" she said, and relaxed. "Couldn't resist the stairs either, huh?"
