Jacob couldn't remember large portions of the night before. Irish Jimmy, James Donnelly, had given his life in an effort to stop Templar sabotage over at Chatham Dockyard. Jacob and some of the older lads had gone to strike back for that loss, when that had been seen to they'd returned to find the others already drinking and celebrating. Jacob was never one to turn his back on good drinks and better company when he could have it and so allowed himself to indulge in a way he hadn't since Evie left for India. There had been singing, which he had taken part in as he was very fond of a drink and a song, and dancing, something Jacob had resisted until someone slipped themselves under his arm and pulled him to dance. Thankfully, at least where the dancing had been concerned, that was one of the parts missing from his memory, but unfortunately, it also meant he didn't remember his dance partner. The dance partner he was fairly certain he'd dragged out with him after the barmaid called time, and likely the same person he felt leave the bed when he was unfortunate enough to start coming around.

He blamed Evie. He could always count on her to stay sober, or at least more so than he did. She always bounced back faster even when she had too much. Now she was in India. In India with her precious Greenie. So, in truth, it was Henry's fault. Henry was the one to blame for his missing memories and that sick feeling in his head and stomach. Good ol' Greenie. If the man was still in London he might have broken into his shop just to turn all of his curios slightly to the left, after all, he had it coming. But Henry wasn't there. Evie wasn't there. It was just Jacob now. Sir Jacob Frye, leader of the Rooks and the Master Assassin watching over London. Jacob who could not spend another minute in bed no matter how desperate he was to stay and fight his way back to sleep.

It had taken a while but he did somehow find the strength to climb out of bed. Climb was a strong word, more like crawl really, but he wasn't going to admit that to anyone. Eventually, he did manage to relieve himself and get his face, neck and other bits washed at the basin while doing his best not to meet his own eyes in the mirror above it. He knew the mess he'd find there if he looked and he didn't need to see it. After that came a tonic that did seem to quiet his stomach and ease his aching head, though he still was not yet fully himself. He only started feeling like himself once he was dressed in his dark coat, well-armed and headed for the door, though he did hope for a quiet day something he was likely to get as everyone else had to be suffering at least as bad as he had been.

Though maybe he was suffering more than he thought as when he opened his door and stepped out it seemed he was somewhere else.

There was supposed to be a landing and then stairs down to the rest of the house, not a hall that was decorated in a strange yet possibly expensive style. And there was supposed to be a blank wall across from his door, not another door with a man standing in front of it. He was dressed as an Assassin, he could see that clearly, though the fashion looked a good century or so out of date. At least the fellow was wearing the same confused look he was likely wearing. "You alright, mate? I didn't know it was time for fancy dress."

Not that he meant to, but upon seeing the black box he took a step back and held up his hands like there might be something to it that was dangerous. But then there was the light and Jacob took a step forward to investigate as his curiosity was as boundless as it was overactive. It reminded him a little of the voltaic bombs he often used and what he'd seen in Aleck's lab if only because the unnatural light seemed so similar.

"Must be electric in some way, but I've never seen it in something so small before." He said as he came closer, tilting his head. He was beginning to wonder if he had never actually woken up or if there was a leak in one of his fear bombs that was combining with the alcohol in his system causing him to hallucinate. It would go a long way to explaining why he was in a strange hall talking to a long-dead Welshman.

"So, just to restate what we know, we're both somewhere other than where we're meant to be and you discovered a strange box of light in your pocket you've never seen before. That doesn't look like a Piece of Eden, I suppose, who knows at this point?" Jacob paused to start searching his pockets, which would take a moment as he was positively covered in pockets and pouches. "This is going to sound like a bizarre question, so I beg you to indulge me, do you happen to know the year it was before you walked in here?"

Edward tried to study the strange thing he was holding without touching anything that might make it do something else unexpected. The Welshman had never seen anything quite like it in all of his years. It lit up like a lantern or a torch but without a burning heat. It was coloured a brilliant white, which differed to the soft golden glow of a candles flame, or a campfire. So there was no fire within it. And what was Jacob on about? Electricity? He sounded mad...

The pirate lifted his gaze from the phone to look at Jacob, a curious and baffled expression on his face. Why would he ask such a question?
"What do you mean, what year was it? Are you daft, man? 1721" he replied. Then again, they had both been taken to another place somehow. Was that really such an odd question to ask? Well, yes, yes it was.

He tucked the strange device back into the pouch he found it in and looked down the hall. "Maybe we should take a look around, see if we can find any clues. There must be something that should tell us where we are and how we got here..." he said, more to himself than anything, as he stepped away from Jacob.

No wonder he looked so good for a dead man, he hadn't technically died yet. He had, what was it? Fourteen years left. What he wouldn't have given to have Evie there, she was better at all this nonsense. And it wasn't like he could send her a letter when he managed to get back, she'd think he'd lost his mind. Not that his twin thinking he was mad was anything new

"I think I must be, yes." He answered, reaching into the last of his hidden pockets. Jacob agreed, it sounded utterly insane to even consider. Of course, it was just as insane to reach into a pocket he knew was empty only to pull out a box just like Edward's. "And not to continue to prove my daftness but it was the beginning of 1874, but this," he nodded toward the box in his hand then motioned around him as he began to follow after Edward, "I'd be willing to bet that this is another year entirely."

No question about it, he was absolutely going mad.

Edward looked back briefly to see that Jacob too had the exact same item on his person. His suspicions were growing even more so. What if the Templar were involved? Did Jacob have to deal with them in London? And hang on, did he just say he was from the year 1874? What was that saying again? Nothing is true, everything is permitted. It was starting to make a little more sense amidst the confusion.

The end of the hall opened out in a large courtyard. Stores with large glass windows lined what looked like a street. They looked strange to Edward but then again, everything did. When he looked up, he saw no sky. No clouds or stars, just a ceiling. Even more puzzling... So they were inside a large building perhaps? Or underground somewhere maybe... Perhaps a prison for assassins? But that didn't explain how he and Jacob were from two different points in time.

It appeared that they weren't quite as alone as he first thought. Not too far ahead, standing nearby was a person dressed all in pink. From what Edward could tell they looked feminine. Edward stopped in his tracks.
"Someone up ahead" Edward said, lowering his voice.

His thoughts about the place probably weren't so different from Edward's if the man's somewhat famous deeds spoke to how his mind worked. Though beyond being confused by the place and what he could see through the shop windows, he was looking for signs anything familiar. He imagined he looked as he did in India, staring at everything around him trying to work it all out while he strutted about with utter confidence. Of course, in spite of every strange little thing, Jacob's confidence didn't falter, striding into the courtyard like he knew what he was doing and where he was going.

"I see her." He whispered, stopping beside the older assassin to give the girl a once-over. The pretty pink color aside, she didn't seem imposing, not when compared to two very visibly armed men. She didn't even appear armed herself but he'd been wrong before. He weighed their options for a second or two before making a probably risky decision to call out to her instead of observing her first. Father would have been very disappointed, as always. "Excuse us, Miss." He called to her, as he started toward her with that same confident walk and without checking on Edward's reaction. He put on one of his more charming smiles, hoping she might be too distracted to see how armed they were. "Sorry to bother you, but my compatriot and I seem to be lost. Might you know where we are?"

Sophia had been up to Little Asgard checking on the newest addition. Basically because babies were cute. Especially if they were someone else's. With the tablet she had used to record much needed data, she was headed off back to the wheel that she considered home. The pink scrubs were freshly ironed and wrinkle free, because why not. Hair tied up in a smooth sleek ponytail. Her pristine white tennis shoes squeaked softly when she stopped abruptly, when one of the two strange men, neither she had noticed, called out to her.

The sound made her flinch. A byproduct of her own world, where making such careless mistakes would get you killed. Turning, more carefully, she faced them. Ready to answer their question, when she took in their appearance. Oh. Well. There wasn't exactly an easy answer. Not one they would believe. Her smile, which had faltered just a little, sprang back full force. "I'm afraid that's not exactly an easy question to answer, as it seems like it would be. I hate to say you're very very lost, through no fault of your own." That sweet soft Georgia accent wasn't something she lost, even over the almost nine years being away from it.

Cautiously Sophia closed the gap between them. "We'll start out with: hello I'm Sophia Mitchell." She held out her hand to the one who had addressed her, as soon as she was close enough. "You are?"

Before Edward had a chance to say anything, his new found companion was off, marching in the direction of the stranger in the near distance. What the hell was he thinking? Had Edward not suspected the Templar, he might have done similar but given the circumstances...

"Jacob..." he hissed under his breath, walking quicker to catch up with him. "And I thought I was reckless" he muttered. As he approached to stand beside Jacob, he brought his hood back. Maybe she was safe... And there weren't any others around so he didn't really have to hide his face anymore did he?

"His name is Milton, mine is Locke" he said, interrupting before Jacob had a chance to speak. "Sophia... Where are we and how did we get here?" he asked. He did take note of her reaction. Like their arrival was something she was perhaps used to? She certainly seemed to be accustomed to their sort of arrival, at least to an extent but she seemed hesitant.

Everyone said his name like that eventually. Maybe it shouldn't have pleased Jacob as much as it did, especially as nothing good tended to happen after his name was said like that, but he was still very much delighted when he not only hissed his name but tried to comment on his recklessness.

The poor Welshman really had no idea.

"Jacob Milton." He said, once Edward finished his questions, taking the time to take her hand give it a firm but friendly handshake before he let her go. "You will have to forgive my friend, Mr. Locke is a tad concerned about the manner in which we came to be here and frankly where here is. I cannot fault him, but still, manners are important aren't they?" Now he was largely just amusing himself, but there were worse things than making friends with the locals, or possibly leading their captors to believe he was much less of a threat than he was.

She didn't seem like she meant them any harm, but Jacob had been wrong before. A lot.

"In any case, it is delightful to meet you, Miss Mitchell. And may I say, what a charming accent you have. American, isn't it? Do we find ourselves in the United States now?" It might explain the strangeness of the place, and possibly her interesting outfit, but certainly not what the boxes were and how Edward had managed to get here from the past.

Sophia squinted her eyes just a little when mister Locke walked up. He looked familiar but she couldn't quite place why. With a mental shrug she marked it down as not that important. He definitely wasn't the Mister Locke she'd met before. He'd been bald, and kind of weird. "Well my dear mother always said you could attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. It's a pleasure to meet you both." She was trying to buy time.

"I am, actually, but I'm afraid we are very far from the United States now... When would be an easier question to answer, but I should quit beating around the bush." She reached into the stiff pocket of her top and pulled out her phone. The black box nearly identical to theirs. "You are in the year 2020, May third to be exact. And we are on a space station, in a galaxy with a name that I can't pronounce, in a solar system that my accent makes difficult." Sophia stopped there, and watched their reactions. Everyone's was different, but she wanted to be ready if something like that was too much for either man to handle. Without knowing when they were from there was no way to know if either would know what she was even talking about.

"The how is also pretty difficult to explain." She couldn't help but give mister Locke and apologetic glance.

The United States? Edward wasn't sure what that was but they both seemed to know at least. If they were truly from different timelines, if they truly were in the future, then they would know about what was to come. They might even know his fate... That was a thought that might have sobered him had he been drunk.

More than that, what was a space station? And how did they get on it? Edward had more questions than he had before and he was certain he would end up with more as time went on. Sophia seemed okay with sharing information with the two of them at least, even if the information just added more confusion. She seemed to realise that too, at least from Edwards perspective.

"All right, so what is that thing you're holding in your hand? What did you just do with it? And what is a space station?" Edward asked, confusion in his voice. He looked to Jacob briefly, half tempted to turn to Sophia and ask where the pub was.

"2020." Jacob repeated to himself, not needing to actually do the math to realize just how dead he probably was, if she was telling the truth and it was actually possible to slip from one's own time and into the future. Perhaps he should have shown a little more sympathy for Edward back when he not so subtly let him know that he was far removed from his own time. But this was different, this impacted Jacob.

He briefly rubbed a hand over his mouth, staring off for a minute or two as he organized his thoughts, half-listening to the rest of their conversation. He reached under one of the sleeves of his coat to tug on the hair on his arm. It hurt and confirmed for him that he wasn't dreaming, still drunk or experiencing some sort of gas-induced hallucination. It wasn't exactly a comfort but at least he knew now.

He took a fortifying breath and put on another smile, giving them back his full attention. "If she's about to say something that confirms Kant was wrong about the nature of space, I'm going to have to go find all of my tutors and punch them very hard on the nose."

She was starting to feel really bad at the welcome wagon bit. If her Dad were still here he would be all smiles and answering their questions as best he could. She held up her phone and turned the screen toward them both. After all, it was an easier question than the 'where' and 'how' questions. "This is a communication device. It does more than that but essentially that's what it's for. If you're from after 1876 it's like a telephone, if your from before it's kind of like the telegraph, and if you're from before 1840... Well it sure beats sending a letter, or messenger." The look on mister Locke's face had said he was probably from before. "What I was doing is I was checking for messages, and checking the date. My days more or less run together so I lose track sometimes. And I turn the sound off when I'm with patients." She chuckled softly at her own expense. But she hadn't turned the sound back on, because technically she was still with patients.

Sophia was about to answer the question about what a space station was when Jacob spoke up. She gave him an apologetic look. "I'm afraid I don't know who Kant was. But a space station is basically a place for people to live among the stars. Because once you get beyond a certain point in the sky... well living creatures can't live. This basically is a giant city above a planet. If we were closer to the outer edge I could turn off the daytime 'sky' and show you, but from here it basically just look like I was a witch or something that turned from day to night." She flicked her phone so that it showed that she could turn off the day with it, as being one of the added functions besides sending someone a message.

It was a lot to take in. Cities floating in the stars above the planets themselves. Being flung into the future somehow along with another who belonged to the Assassins order, who in turn, was from another point in time. Strange communication devices and magical letters? It was enough to make a mans head spin. Edward really wanted to sit down with a drink. Surely the future still had good booze?

"Perhaps you appearing to be a witch is the least of our concerns this day" Edward replied. "And those are certainly words I did not believe would pass through my teeth on any given day. Who is responsible for bringing me... us here?" he asked, glancing at Jacob. "And is there a place where we might be able to find a drink or few" he added, hoping to lighten the mood somewhat. He was certain that if he needed a drink, Jacob would probably, possibly, feel the same way.

"Immanuel Kant is forgotten. The common people are wandering around and living amongst the stars with telegraphs that transmit the human voice and that not only fit in the palms of their hand or their pocket but they also have some sort of musical functionality. As long as I can still get a pint, I have to say the future is a magnificent place." Jacob beamed, deciding to be delighted by his chance to experience the future rather than consider the fact that likely everyone he had ever met was very dead by that point.

Kenway had the right of it though, drinks would be appreciated.

"And more importantly," he started, bringing his hand up to slip his silver ring off his finger. It bore the symbol of their Order and he was relatively certain Edward wasn't going to approve of what he was going to do with it. The old pirate would get past it, he was relatively sure, after all he hadn't accused him of being a templar agent yet. At least not to his face. He held it up to Sophia so she could get a good look at it. "Are you familiar with that symbol? Or at the very least, have you seen it around here?" It didn't really matter what her answer was, Jacob was more watching her expression.

Sophia couldn't help but snort about mister Locke's comment about witches, but she curled her lips against her teeth in attempt to hide it. The questions seemed to get easier and easier. But one at a time. "I don't know her name, and I've never met her, but from what I understand there is a little girl that's brought us all here. She should be older now, because she was little when I was first brought here," She felt no need to confuse them about the island, "And that was almost nine years ago. But I still read things where she's still called a little girl. Soo..." She scrunched her nose a little, not sure where to go with that.

"Now as far as drinks go... " She drawled, trailing off as she leaned closer when Jacob pulled off the ring. The symbol looked familiar, but not at the same time. "There are a two places to go for drinks. One is smaller, one is pretty big. One is on the way to my destination, the other kinda veers of. I'll let you choose which one." she continued on before she focused more on the ring. "I haven't seen that symbol here. Back home I would see one that was a lot like it, carved into bricks or set into cement. It was different, in a way that it was a drawing compass and a square rule. They were always in out of the way areas, on old buildings." Which, she realized, either wouldn't exist with them, or wouldn't be old at all.

Edward watched as Jacob slipping the ring off to show her the symbol, questioning her about it. Aye, Edward recognised it well enough. He couldn't help but wonder why Jacob would be so bold as to share the symbol but he saw merit in his choice. If she reacted in a particular way she could out herself as a Templar for starters. Depending on how she reacted might tell a great deal. She seemed to recognise it and yet not recognise it at the same time. The things she described were beyond Edwards recognition. He wasn't sure if she had maybe just got the symbol muddled up with something else. Perhaps. Or maybe it was proof that the assassin's order would live on longer than Edward could possibly have imagined.

"The closest bar with the cheapest booze!" Edward replied with some cheer, putting his arm around Jacob to pat him on the shoulder somewhat heavily. "That should do the trick, right?" he asked as he looked to Jacob.

Jacob nodded at her answer and slipped his ring back onto his finger. What she described sounded to him like a freemason symbol, something he was familiar enough with but it wasn't an organization tied to either Assassins or Templars. Middle and upper-class men wanting to be a part of a club to feel special, as far as he knew. Harmless. In any case, her reaction had been genuine and Jacob found himself relaxing just a little.

He wasn't in danger of getting a Templar blade in his back, as far as he knew, that was already making this a very good day.

"Cheap?" Jacob glanced to the hand on his shoulder then back to Edward, eyebrow raised. "It seems to me that they'll happily take your coin, especially if it is as old as you are, but you'll be swindling yourself if you only order something cheap. Your money is most certainly antique and thus worth more, why not go somewhere where they don't have to water down the drinks and you can buy out their entire stock of rum?"

Well it seemed she passed some kind of test without realizing she was taking one. It was good to see them relax, as much as new people could relax in this sort of environment. And she took what she could get.

"I don't know how much Miss Ingouf would appreciate her booze being called cheap or watered down." Sophia teased both men. "But I'm sure that anything you want to drink is free. Now if you would be so kind, follow me, and I'll lead you to one of her doorsteps. But I'll have to leave you there if she's there, I'm not of drinking age quite yet. And I won't cheat." She had plans that were set in stone, to her anyway. "But that said, if I do leave you with her, you both have to come see me in the medical center when you get your baring. You both probably need checkups, and I'm not sure either one of you would have had any vaccines."

Sophia started back in the direction of the elevator, which she had been on the way to before they had stopped her. Knowing the lift would produce its own set of questions.

At least she didn't seem to be one of the Templar. Edward felt somewhat relieved. Even if she had been, what would she have done against the two of them? And surely she would have known their names enough to point out that Edward had given false names? It was a thought.

Free booze? Was she joking? And it wasn't watered down? Edward looked at Jacob out of sheer disbelief. "There has to be a catch, surely? No one gives away their drink for free, not without wanting something in return" Edward said with some scepticism in his voice. And what pub would give away their drink? How could they do business for any length of time?

"Please, lead the way" Edward said with a nod of his head and a sweeping gesture with one hand.

"Locke. Gift horse. Mouth. Don't." Jacob said half under his breath when Edward asked more questions. He was certainly curious but he didn't want to annoy their current guide, especially if there was a chance that she was going to be sticking them with needles. Save the more suspicious questions for the barman, he decided, at least then he could inspect the drinks himself.

"Just the smallpox jab," he confirmed. "I cannot speak for grandfather time here though, it might have been after his time." He remembered getting the shot, he and Evie had been young enough that during their playfights they would jam their thumbs into the other's injection sites to get the other to scream for a good week. Their father had been so cross and had ranted about how lucky they were to get the shots in the first place. He hadn't mentioned dates but he had said something about a great aunt or a great, great grandfather having a scarred face. None of it gave him insight now as to if Edward had been able to get the shot or not.

"If it is any comfort, my friend and I seem to be healthy enough that we aren't likely to infect anyone with anything." He offered.

"There's no catch, not that I know of. But the owner of the clubs will tell you if there is, if she's there. If she's not she can't tell you, and I'd say they're absolutely free." Sophia gave a little bit of a defiant nod. Even if they weren't she'd take on their debt, because she couldn't tell them otherwise. It was the right thing to do. "But everything else here is free, from medical care to groceries. There's even a diner that serves hot meals, and a coffee shop that always has hot coffee."

She lifted the tablet from where she had it clutched to her breast, when they reached the elevator tube. "Um, I'm not worried about what you can give to us, most of us are vaccinated. There might be a few that are missing vaccinations, but I don't think so. It's what you could catch. We've had someone here with Yellow Fever, and one with Tuberculosis, and while both men are healed now, I don't know how well the sanitation is for the whole station. And while most viruses die within fourteen days without a host, I'd rather not take any chances." And this is where she gave them a look. "But, that said... You're names aren't really Locke and Milton are they? Because you aren't showing up on my list." She would have pointed out that the jabs aren't anywhere as painful as they used to be, and she was quite good at giving them. To the point that she could promise a painless blood draw.

The Welshman followed along with Jacob and Sophia, keeping mostly silent so he could hear what they were talking about. Edward wasn't entirely sure what a vaccination was. He had no idea what the smallpox jab was either. He felt just that little more out of his depth than he was sure Jacob was. At least the other man recognised some things that he didn't, or he was very good at pretending to understand. There were clearly things that Jacob knew, things from his timeline, that hadn't yet happened in Edwards. Around 150 years difference between them and all that change. It was hard to wrap his head around. Sure, it was a long time, and things have even changed since Jacob's time but it was still a lot to take in. He really wanted that drink.

Then she made mention of the false names he had given her. She had caught on to them. But how? Edward looked to Jacob, a little astonished and mildly confused before looking back to Sophia.
"How do you know that?" he asked. "We both arrived here at the same time. Ours was a chance meeting..." he added hesitantly. "So if you do have our real names on a list, what are they?" he asked, testing the waters, curious as to what was going on.

"How could she not know that?" Jacob gave Edward a look before glancing back to the door before them. They seemed to be waiting on something, Jacob guessed some sort of lift though he couldn't say for certain. He hadn't had much experience with them but he had seen versions of them before. "Milton and Locke. For Christ's sake, you might as well have called us Shakespeare and Marlow. Or even Cain and bloody Abel. It would have sounded just as likely."

He understood Edward's reluctance but the longer he observed their surroundings and listened to what Sophia had to say, the less random it all seemed to him. If there was a list at all their names were probably on it.

"A chance meeting perhaps, but we are not unconnected." He said, deciding to save the rest of his little revelation for later. He reached out and put a hand to Edward's chest. "Captain Edward Kenway," he then moved that hand to his own chest. "Sir Jacob Frye."

When asked how she knew that their names were false she turned her tablet to face them both, and there was a list of everyone on board. She could have gone through the list and found the names she didn't know, but that would take time, because she also had names of the children born since their parents arrival. "You have a list too, if you have a communication device. It has everyone's real names as the girl knows them by." Sophia tried not to smile as Jacob admonished. "But I would give passing marks for effort. Because in my time those are very common surnames, and my mind didn't go straight to the philosopher and poet."

The elevator behind her dinged to let her know that it had reached their level, just before the two doors hissed open. And she turned to enter the pod. Placing her back against one of the doors to allow them to enter at their leisure. "It's a pleasure to properly make your acquaintance. But I assure you my inquiry was totally medically motivated. I need to mark in Sir Frye's file that he has had the small pox vaccination, so I will have to have tests run before I give a booster of that vaccine, to make sure that the vaccine we have today will not react badly to the one he had." Boring, but transparent. That would be the only way she gained Captain Kenway's trust. "And by Captain, and all Sir Frye's teasing I'm going to venture a guess that you were possibly a pirate, or a privateer. So I really need to check you over."

Edward rolled his eyes at Jacob. He thought it was clever enough. Apparently not quite as clever as he thought. So they had been caught out. And there was a list of all of their names? Every person on the station? That was fascinating to Edward and something he knew he would have to study should he get the chance to. And of course, once he had adapted to using the strange device he carried on his person. The strange device apparently all of them carried. Seemed like a convenient way to keep track of people. It reminded him of what he learned about the observatory. He knew that sort of power could be abused with ease.

The doors opened up before them and Edward peered inside. It looked like an awfully small room for the three of them. More like a sort of strange wardrobe. Edward stepped in after Sophia and looked around, puzzled.
"I would be most appreciative of any aid you can give, but why are we inside this small room? It's a bit... cosy, wouldn't you say?" he asked, peering all around.

He didn't much like the idea of being checked over either, but if there were medicines that could aid and help him, he was more than happy to accept them. He couldn't help but feel somewhat suspicious. Jacob seemed to be a little more trusting than he was but perhaps that was all show.
