[FRIENDS, you know who you are]

I've been thinking, for reasons, about that idea that you can tell a lot about a person by what their favorite song or book or whatever is. Usually songs and books. Those are things that have a tendency to be really personal to a person. And it can sometimes be surprising to see what comes up.

So, because I'm bored and can't sleep, what's yours? And because fair is fair, here are mine:

Book: House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielwelski

Y'know I've never actually finished Naked Lunch? I've seen the movie, but I made it about halfway through the book and set it down to read something else and just forgot I had started it. I should probably finish that.

I asked myself that once too. How can I still sit through a slasher movie when a slasher movie happened to us? But I've always loved horror and I'm not going to let some jerkass take that away from me. There's a couple I haven't been able to watch again, like Last House on the Left. But, y'know, I can still watch Stab? So I guess I just compartmentalize well?

What does it say if you don't have a favorite but it varies depending on the moment or situation or stage or you're ambivalent toward most colors?

It says that you're not thinking hard enough. Everyone's got one. I've got mine categorized, there are so many. You have favorites because you can go back to them over and over again, you have the ones that affected you the most, the ones that mean the most to you... All sorts of options.

What do you make of the non-ACD Sherlock Holmes stories? Or the spin-offs. I liked the Enola Holmes books a lot when I was a kid.

Book: Firestarter by Stephen King. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.Extra-Ordinary: My Life as Number Seven by Vanya Hargreeves. Euclid's Elements.

Song: Some Stravinsky. Some Liszt. Some The Clash. Some Tiffany. And a dash of The Animals.

Movie: The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Color: Dolores always said Blue goes well with my eyes. I also don't mind green. The dark ones, not the light ones. Blues and greens. Blue-green. Green-blue. Those general shades.

I don't have favorites of most of that stuff. I was homeless for a while, so I didn't really read or watch a lot of movies, you know?

But I have favorite ballets: Firebird, Giselle and Dance of the Blessed Spirits. Music-wise, I'll take most anything, but I'm not really into trumpet-heavy jazz right now. Or probably ever again, to be honest.

yeah me too. do you know google? is google a thing for you? its new to me so i dont know who knows it. it helped with the list alot. the leprik leprechaun too. it sand alot of new songs.

OH, ballet! I like the fairytale ones. Especially the Andersen-fairytale ones. My parents took me to see the Nutcracker every year for Christmas. And then Swan Lake and the Sleeping Beauty ballet are both right up there at the top of my favorites. I've seen Giselle, but I've never seen Firebird or Dance of the Blessed Spirits before. They did a ballet version of Hunchback of Notre Dame too, but I haven't even be able to find a video of that.

We could totally catch you up on movies sometime, though. If you wanna? There are a lot of really good dance movies to start with, unless you have a favorite non-dance-movie genre. Perks of working in movie theaters since I was fourteen, I know a LOT of films.

Jane Eyre is the one where the dude has his wife in the attic, right? I think I had to read that for AP English. I ought to probably reread it without the pressure of knowing I'm going to have to analyze every single word of it for a grade, eh?

Have you read A Winkle in Time? Or, uhm... OH! The Black Cauldron is really good too. And The Last Unicorn is a classic, but it can be a bit of a sludge to get through at times.

I love Voltaire and MCR. You've got good taste. :D
