Hello Goodland! I know it's kind of like a literal expression of the seasonal ups and downs, but I hope this can kind of help everyone by giving people something to look forward to in January. Tony and I compiled some days for a January Jamboree (okay I take all the credit on the name because I was feeling alliterative but you can still call it Fun Days for January if you prefer) that'll hopefully at least provide some fun for everyone.
I won't ramble on too much this time and instead I'll present to you January Jamboree aka Fun Days for January by Peter Parker and Tony Stark!
January Jamboree aka Fun Days for January
January 1 -- New Years Day
This is pretty obvious, right? Or am I being assumptive? But basically it's the start of a new year! Which, to me, seems almost weird here since we didn't really arrive at the beginning of the year, so it hasn't been a full year, but then that goes into figuring out time here, and that's a whole weird can of worms I don't want to open here. SO! Basically, if you're feeling up to it, you can celebrate the New Year by going to a New Year's Eve party or throwing your own or just staying up to midnight. Then when midnight strikes, you celebrate! Congratulations, the planet made another rotation around its sun! Yay! Celebrations include fireworks, noise makers, sparklers, banging pots and pans, sharing a kiss, toasting a bubble drink of choice (I like sparkling grape to sparkling apple juice personally, but to each his and her own). Some people like to make resolutions (like "I resolve to go to the gym more" or "I resolve to volunteer more" or whatever else you can think of). None of it's really required, and, honestly, I say celebrate how you want, just be safe! Especially if you go out. And then you can spent the rest of the day sleeping off the midnight celebration or whatever you want.
January 4-- National Trivia Day
Did you know the word "trivia" is the plural of "trivium"? Congrats, that's your first bit of trivia for National Trivia Day! Basically it's just a fun day to look up trivia, swap trivia, maybe host a trivia challenge day/night with friends (pub trivia anyone?), and otherwise indulge in your curiosities for learning new fun facts.
January 7-- National Science Fiction Day
Today is the day to explore science fiction! You can read your favorites or watch your favorites, introduce people to your favorites, or explore parts of the genre you've never explored before. Been curious about a show but haven't yet checked it out? Do so! Wondering about the history of science fiction? Time to look it up and see where it all started! Love lighter science fiction but a little intimidated to get into the hard core sci-fi? Today's the day to give it a shot! Or make a party of it! Swap favorite books with friends or gather round for a sci-fi movie marathon!
January 10-- National Dress Up Your Pet Day
I think this one's definitely self explanatory! Today is the day to dress your pet up! Something fun. Something fancy. Something cute. Something scary. Something fantastical. Little boots (to keep paws safe on walks. The ground can be really hot and really cold) or a nice winter sweater. Just something! (But please don't force your pet to dress up. I'm sure it doesn't need to be said, but I just want to say it just to be sure. If your pet doesn't like to be dressed up, please don't. If they seem distressed or it's too small, please take it off. Also, some pets like to chew, so just be careful of things they can chew.)
January 13-- National Croissant Day
If you don't know what a croissant is, this is a croissant! At first, they're pretty simple little pastries, but they're honestly really versatile! You can get them with chocolate on them or drizzled in chocolate, filled with jellies, with almonds on them, or even make a sandwich from them! Croissants have a lot going on with them. You can observe this day buy hitting up a bakery and ordering a bunch, or you can look up different recipes and make your own! I think they taste best warm with a cup of hot cocoa, but that's just me. You can also debate on how to pronounce croissant while enjoying this delicious treat!
January 16-- National Have Fun at Work Day
Pretty simple sounding, right? You're at work, and, sometimes work's stressful. Sometimes it's a not fun day. But today is the day to try to find a way to make it fun! I'll admit it. I don't have as much work experience as some people, so I don't know all the ways you could make the day fun. But I'm sure you guys can find a way! :D
January 19-- National Cuddle Up Day
So cuddling is a good thing. Cuddling releases oxytocin, and that makse you feel the warm fuzzies basically, helps reduce pain, helps with stress and anxiety, and is overall a pretty neat little hormone. This day is pretty easy to observe. You just cuddle up with a friend or loved one or your pet! (Just make sure they're cool with cuddles. Some people don't like snuggles.) You could always add a movie and blankets for an enjoyable day or just give an extra long hug to someone you care about. And if touching isn't your thing, you can always play with animals at the animal shelter (they need a good cuddle, too!) or just curl up and snuggle a blanket and a good book or binge watch an enjoyable tv show.
January 22-- National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day
If you've never had a hot pastrami sandwich, today is the day to try one! They are delicious, and I highly recommend them (but I'm biased). This is a classic deli sandwich, especially in New York. You can get it with or without cheese (if you do cheese, I recommend provolone), with or without mustard (but it tastes better with in my opinion), and you can get a side of coleslaw. You can take or leave the Russian dressing. It's typically served on rye (I don't recommend any other bread, but some people don't like rye), and it's amazing. 10/10 would recommend. So go out to any of the delis in Goodland and try one today! Or make one at home! Your choice!
Januayr 25-- National Puzzle Day
If you like puzzles, this is a day for you! This is the day to do any kind of puzzle you want. Jigsaw, word, math -- any kind will do! You can grab friends and family and work on one of those mega multi-thousands of pieces jigsaw puzzles, curl up with coffee and a nice crossword from the newspaper, hunt down hard to find words in a word search, or sharpen up your maths skills with some Sudoku. Or any other type of puzzle you can think of! If you don't want to go buy puzzles, you can always look them up on the internet! There are tons of sites for puzzle games, including this one, which times you on how long it takes you to do various sized puzzles. Could be fun to beat your own score or try to beat your friends' scores. Whatever type of puzzle you do today, remember to have fun!
January 28-- National Rubbery Ducky Day
This is a rubber ducky! They come in different sizes and colors, and they can be used during bath time to make bath time lots of fun. Some people collect them. The rubber duck has a couple of songs, too. (I didn't say they were good, though. Just so you guys know.) You can celebrate by looking into getting a rubber duck of your own (even if the duck just hangs out on the shelf) or making some kind of fun contest kind of like a giant fishing game for prizes. Or you can start your new rubber duck collection today!
January 31-- National Peanut Brittle Day
If you don't know what peanut brittle is, it's a type of brittle that uses peanuts! (You can read more about it here if you're curious! :D) Basically today is a day for that good, good treat, peanut brittle! You can celebrate it by eating it and making it. I definitely recommend it if you like peanuts and you like sweet things. It isn't too sweet, but it is sweet, so you've been warned. You can make and share with friends and family or make with friends and family. It also makes a great gift!
