Summary: The only way in which Severus can bear Lily’s death is to know he pays harshly for his redemption. However, in making his grand gesture – his sacrifice – has he paid the price with the wrong coin? Luckily there are others debtors to guide him.

A/N: I took great pleasure in writing this for you, rowaine. I hope you enjoy reading it as much and that I have given you what you asked for. This story begins with dialogue taken verbatim from DH, the chapter titled ‘The Prince’s Tale’. Specifically, it happens once upon a Halloween, 1981. My thanks to my hand holder, atypicalsnowman, for bouncing the plot back and forth with me: darling, I couldn’t have done it without you.
