Happy Daft Day, [info]quill_lumos!

Title: The Healing of Lethe
Author: [info]winoniel
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None
Summary: After the end of the war, Severus builds a life without his memories or magic.
A/N: Pinch hitting is fun: there's no time to procrastinate, one can just get on with it! Thanks to my beta, Hikisp04, and the Snarry Swap mods! [info]quill_lumos, you asked for plot and a snarky Snape—I tried for snarky, but darn it if Harry didn't keep wearing Snape down! I hope I was able to deliver the rest to your satisfaction! This story is mainly DH-complaint, though the timeline is modified, and there are several obvious changes.

Most excellent and wonderful work! I like how their relationship develops after Harry and Severus meet up and work together. I like how their relationship strengthens even further when Severus regains his memories. Well done!~Sophia

Very sweet! In many fics, it's Sev trying to find a 'cure' for Harry, so it was nice to see the tables turned.

I know, I actually wanted Harry to brew, but I thought that would be pushing fiction a bit much!

Such a charming story. The relationship between Harry and Severus was well developed. I felt sorry for Severus as he struggled through life without his memories or magic, but it is wonderful that he was able to do so well for himself. I do hope he kept working at the bookstore for a little while just because they were kind to him and appreciated him for himself.

I wanted to show that Severus is strong with or without magic. I think he kept the friends from the bookstore, he doesn't have too many to be able to give up any! Glad you enjoyed it.

Very nice tale. I really enjoyed the situation Severus found himself in before Harry found him again-always the snippet of the dream, the way he held his wand close-knowing it must be important. Then of course the wonderful development of a relationship between them as they worked to restore his memories. I loved Severus's immediate reaction to the restoration of his memories, questioning Harry's sanity basically. ;) Great job.

Thanks, I wanted to show how much his magic was such a part of him that he could feel its presence even though he didn't have his memories. Regarding Severus' response, you have to remember that he probably wouldn't have forgiven himself if he were in Harry's place, so he can't imagine why Harry would.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I love your amnesiac Severus and his struggles to earn a living in the Muggle world and steer clear of the dreaded Department of Stealth and Total Obscurity ;)

Your Harry is good too, far more mature than in the books and all the better for it.

Like Severus I was a little apprehensive about how things would work out once his memories returned, so I'm glad you gave a happy ending to our boys.

Excellent!

I really wanted to show how strong Severus is, how he could still forge a life for himself even without magic, though it's such an integral part of himself--he could somehow sense its absence.

Glad you like the characterizations and enjoyed it!

OMG!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. *squishes* I absolutely LOVE this story. I adore confused Severus. I felt so sad for him when he'd lost his memory and had no idea who he was, I love the way that he gradually rebuilt his life, so stoically. Somehow that is very Severus and I loved Harry! Harry the whirlwind! For me you drew out the very best of Harry's character, I really liked the way that he didn't give up, that he befriended Severus, played down his heroicism and his bravery (flying to Severus' side in a madcap way) and I loved him as a dad, and the way that Severus liked the children too!!

Loved the way that the story remained true to canon and yet went off in it's own direction and I loved the oral sex scene, speechless Severus for the win!!! Am so impressed that this was a pitch hit, and Severus was perfectly snarky in a worn down by life sort of way, very believable, very well drawn.

What more can I say? This story was absolutely perfect and I love it to bits! I'm now off to rec it like mad and to friend you to see what else you've written.

Thank you so much!!

*squishes you*

Lucie xxx

You're welcome! *giggles in delight*

I'm so pleased you like the way I wrote the characters! When I was given the assignment, I went to re-read some of your stories that I had saved. I couldn't hope to approach your depth of characterization, so I thought I'd let the story tell me where to take the boys.

I really wanted to show how strong Severus is, how he could still forge a life for himself even without his memories or magic. I also knew that somewhere inside him, canon Harry had a thoughtful, mature side, so I thought I'd show a less impulsive young man. Harry the whirlwind just happened, but I like the imagery.

Glad you liked the oral sex--I believed I knicked the idea from you! *shifts eyes guiltily*

So glad it impressed you enough to friend me, yeay!

Excellent fic.
I like how Snape stayed IC but was also different, when he woke from the coma. His slow intro to Magic was well-written and plausible.
Glad he got along with Harry's kids too.

Thanks, I really wanted to show Severus' strength, and that he had it with or without his memories and magic.

I think that the kids would have a lot of Harry's personality, which Severus would have liked immediately had they not had the baggage of James Potter!

Glad you enjoyed it!

I felt that without his emotional baggage (Tobias, his appearance, James and Sirius) Severus would have been like the one I wrote. He would have been horrified at some of the things canon Snape did.

I also think that the kids would have a lot of Harry's personality, and without his emotional baggage, Severus would have liked probably liked Harry as an eleven-year-old.

Glad you liked it!

This was a wonderful fic. And this line actually had me tear up a bit:

When he was born, he opened his eyes. The midwife said that newborns don’t see anything at first, but he looked right at me, and I felt his magic reach out to mine. Ever since that night, we’ve connected on a level that I’ve never felt except with one other person.”

Great job!

Thanks for your comments. It seems that canon Harry remembers vividly all of the 'firsts' with his friends, so of course, he would remember something as life-altering as 'meeting' his child for the first time. I just also thought that JKR dwells a lot on eyes, so I liked that touch. I'm happy you enjoyed it! *hugs*

I liked your way of describing Severus’ life without past, how he was haunted by the dream and the unanswered questions, and how the ”beautifully carved stick” seemed to offer him some comfort. I loved the scene where he found Spinner’s End and how he later accidentally ”summoned” Harry to his doorstep. Harry was so mature, good-natured and helpful. I particularly liked the way in which he persuaded Severus to brew and drink the potion. Lovely story.

I really wanted to show that Severus' magic was strong enough to hint at its presence even though he'd lost all of his memories, so I'm glad that came across! The characterization is also important to me, as well, I really wanted to show how much they'd both 'grown up' since the battle and their time at Hogwarts.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

What a charming story. The beginning really emphasizes what a survivor Severus is, managing to scrape a life together out of such grim circumstances. I admire how well you were able to balance his IC misanthropic tendencies with the greater openness he would have, being freed from his memories. Harry is wonderful, the way he flings himself headlong into Severus' life, bringing his particular brand of loving empathy to bear. It's a very believable depiction of how Harry would grow and thrive, after being free from the threat of Voldemort. Nicely done!

Thanks for your comments. I sincerely believe that Severus' incredible strength of character, without the emotional baggage of his upbringing and his Hogwarts' years, would allow him to thrive almost anywhere. Harry is another who shares that Slytherin ability to land on his feet, and I wanted to show how much they had in common without the issues of the past. I'm happy you enjoyed it!
