Who: Carol and Clark
When: Saturday morning
Where: Somewhere on the outskirts of town in the woods
What: Blowing off steam
Rating: TBA (probably low unless there is swearing)

Carol had been trying to handle things in Starklandia one day at a time. She'd convinced herself this was temporary and to maybe even see it as her universe's way of making her take a vacation. After all, 25 years with no real time off was a long time for anyone, even someone who didn't seem to age. But now it was becoming tedious and the days were starting to blur together, even at the bar.

Again, she could have probably dealt with the routine had there not been the sudden influx of new people. Or that's what she told herself. She was never good on her own, less so when there was nothing to do. When things were quiet it just got worse, which was sort of ironic considering where she'd gone to blow off steam that day. But it was better here than in the city. And through the doors, she never knew what she'd find.

She hadn't flown in a long time. There wasn't a reason to around such a small area, and she didn't really want to freak out the newcomers who might not be used to seeing flying people. So she tried that for a little bit, but America had been right. No matter how much she flew up, it was just an endless struggle. That's when she came down and grew more frustrated, she aimed a photon blast straight at a large rock by the lake. As expected, it shattered easily. And it didn't really help.

"FUCK!" She shouted and hit a tree. Which then came crashing down. With a wince (more for the uncontrolled outburst than any pain), Carol let out a sigh and sat down on the ground. Never had she ever wished that something or someone threatening could pop out of the bushes and attack just so she could take out her frustration.

"I haven't been here for very long," he replied with a smile and slowly descended until his feet touched the ground. Clark took her hand and gave it a firm shake. He hesitated for a second before saying, "Kal." That was truth enough. People willy nilly sharing their names felt strange to him, and truth be told, Clark was still protective of that identity. He still didn't know how the rules worked around here. Maybe it was Pa whispering in his ear, fearing the idea that he'd be scooped up and experimented on. Among other things.

Placing his hands on his hips, glanced at the tree, and said: "Steam released or still looking for things to punch?" Fair question. He knew what that was like. He also knew how hard it was to find things you could hit without it causing a problem.

Carol wouldn't have necessarily understood Clark's hesitance to share his name. For her, it was the opposite. She held her name closely and wore it proudly because it had been stolen from her for so many years. Vers had been a lie. Carol was who she really was, and even though some people called her Marvel (which she still never really understood), she knew it was just easier for people to remember. And probably easier for the military to explain since she was technically still "dead" in their official records.

She glanced back at the tree and sighed. DId she admit it? "I'm always looking, I guess?" She looked back towards him and nodded. "Why? You interested?" That was definitely an intriguing offer.

True, Carol didn't really know this Kal...but he was wearing a cape and he could fly, so she was assuming he might have an idea about what he was doing. Maybe.

"Any particular reason why?" he asked with a raised brow. "Or is it a general level of fury that exists at all times?" That was certainly not healthy. He quirked a grin, though. "If it means saving defenseless trees from being uprooted from their homes," he began, and finished with a shrug. "Maybe." He wasn't one to get into fights lightly. He was a firm believer of talking things out if he could. It's why most people liked to mock him with "boy scout" -- well, that and his appreciation for rules, doing the right thing, and being prepared, but that was beside the point.

However, helping someone let off steam was something different. He knew how important it could be to have an outlet. Clark, often, used his writing or working on the farm as his outlet for his frustrations. Not everyone, though, processed things the same way.

She considered the question, making a face like she was thinking it over for a second before smirking a little and shrugging. "I don't know. I haven't really had the chance to sit around without the need to fight something in a long, long time." And that was true enough. Carol hadn't really had the opportunity to process a lot of what she'd seen or been through. Most of her life had been going from one fire to another with moments of respite in between.

She drank during most of those moments. Or found other means to escape her own head.

"Hey! I told you what it was doing- that tree is anything but innocent."

She smirked at him, clearly interested in the potential challenge. "Maybe, huh?" She nodded a little towards the tree. "You saw the tree, right?"

"Ah," he said with a slow nod. "Military, then?" He'd known a few military people. Knew the children of military men, too. They were a handful. But tough as nails. Also explained Lois' fight now, throw herself head first now, ask questions later mentality, but that was neither here nor there. Of course, in truth, she might just be the aggressive type. Might be unfair to make that kind of assumption, and he hoped he hadn't offended her if he had.

When she watched him with a vague patronizing grin, and an amused tone, he merely grinned in return. He followed her gaze to the uprooted tree and he, clearly, was not intimidated. "To be fair," he replied, "the tree can't fight back." Not that it'd have much of a chance. It certainly didn't have much of a chance against him and he'd fought living trees before. That, though, was a story for another day.

He thought about saying something witty. Or feign modesty. Instead, though, recognizing Carol was more of a woman of action and needing something to battle. "You said you fly, right?" he asked as he glanced about before giving her a solid uppercut -- the kind with enough force to launch her off the ground and into the sky. Sure, maybe it was a sucker punch. But he figured she wouldn't mind. It wasn't long before he was launching into the air.

"Something like that." She wasn't sure how to explain it. She was military, of course. Two types. But recently, that hadn't really been it. The military had helped her find discipline and an outlet. It gave her a chance to prove herself against all odds, and to fly high. Carol wouldn't say she was naturally aggressive, but she was competitive. And that sometimes led to the aggressive side.

"Good point." She nodded and gave a small shrug. Poor tree never stood a chance.

"I don't know if I said that-" She might have hinted at it, though. Even just in the way she looked at him. But then, he hit her. Hard enough to lift her into the sky. It was the first surprise she'd had in a long time.

And he hit hard. Hard enough to actually cause pain, hard enough for her to bleed.

She didn't get too high though before recovering and speeding back down, sending a punch straight into his chest and throwing him well into the forest with it. She hadn't used her photon powers, just pure strength. But she was meeting his hit with equal force.

Her lip was bleeding, green blood on her chin. She floated above the ground, hands on her sides clenched into fists and she was grinning. And glowing.

"Not bad, Fly Boy."

Luckily, his flight helped stave off an awkward destruction of the forest. It was one of the nice things about being able to fly -- though it had taken him some time to master that skill. Still, that was quite a punch. Aside from Kara, there were very few people who could come at him that hard which was simultaneously refreshing and unnerving, but he'd figure that might be the case. His chest burned, but nothing was cracked. A good sign.

"I figured a half-strength punch was a nice approach," he righted himself. "Oh, you glow, too." He tilted his head. "Alien or enhanced?" He paused, considering. "Or alien enhancement?" He'd encountered a lot in his short life. He'd even been to the future once. Though, that was mostly a fuzzy memory now that he was an adult, so there was very little that surprised him these days. Aliens wise, anyway.

He could take a punch. She was counting on it considering his strength. Otherwise, she was going to have some awkward conversations with the others back in town about why there was a dead man in a cape in the forest.

Kal asked about alien enhancements and she actually laughed a little and shrugged. "A little of this, a little of that." She didn't think he was from her universe, so it would be even harder to explain the Kree. Probably save that for later.

"If that was half-strength, I kinda wanna know what full strength feels like." She was challenging him, eyebrow raised and ready to go. "Or was that it?"

"I usually reserve that for really evil types," he replied, "and only if there's no choice." He studied her carefully. "However, I don't mind being a sparring partner." He grinned. "I have a feeling you're used to keeping your punches scaled frustratingly back." He knew that feeling. "Assuming, of course, you can keep up with me." He was sure that Carol was feeling restless and, well, making a new friend would be nice. Y'know. One that was actually interested in being his friend and not word vomitting about his feelings. Not that the person hadn't been nice, but it was kind of hard to forge a friendship when someone spent most of their time talking about someone else.

It's a good thing they weren't on a date. That would've been one terrible date.

She nodded, understanding why he would choose to hold back but also growing more and more curious about what this guy could really do. "Sounds like we could both try a little harder, huh?" Carol cracked her neck and offered a slight nod.

"Oh, I think you're going to have some trouble keeping up with me, actually." It was true. It had been a very long time since Carol hadn't held back. Well, against an ally, at least. In fact, she couldn't think of a time she hadn't held back with an ally, even when sparring. The Kree had taught her to "control it". Another part of her training that stayed with her.

So...it was time to test this, right? She flew at him, not full speed but definitely starting to approach sound and hit him hard in the jaw- or she tried to, anyway. It was a punch that would easily crush an ordinary man's face. Hopefully, he wasn't that fragile.

He chuckled. She was sure of herself which, admittedly, he respected. Reminded him of all the women he'd surrounded himself with over the years. "I'm sure," he replied, though not patronizingly, and he studied her as she came at him. So, clearly she could fly. The source of her powers were energy-based somehow. Probably no different than his own, to be honest. Bodies storing energy from some sort of cosmic force -- or external force -- and expelling it in different ways. Stil, he wasn't entirely sure the full extent of her powers.

Though, to be fair, neither was she aware of all of his. So, he let her come, made as if to ready for a direct hit and--with super speed--dodged out of her way letting zip past him, missing her shot. He wore a bit of a grin. "I thought you said you were going to try a little harder?" Normally, he wouldn't tease. But considering Carol was a bit of a shit talker, he figured he'd play her game and make it fun for her. Clark was a lot of things, and he was certainly a people pleasure if he could be.

It was true. Carol was sure of herself- hell, she was cocky. She knew it. It came with the territory of being a pilot, and later with the whole nearly-invisible thing. Carol wasn't used to being overpowered or even out-raced.

So, his sudden dodge surprised her. and she stopped and turned around midair, just staring at him. She looked impressed, grinning and cocking her head to the side. "Okay, wonder-boy. I'm impressed."

She was studying him, now, before making her next move.
Sure, Carol was usually a punch-first and ask questions later sort of girl. But, she already figured this guy might (big might) be able to out-punch and out-fly her. Which meant she'd have to think about how to go about this. This kind of challenge was definitely exciting.

"I don't want to hurt you- how invulnerable would you say you were?" She was serious about the question, pausing briefly to try to figure out exactly what it might take to outmaneuver him.

Clark merely shrugged. He wasn't much of a divulger of secrets. Plus, he figured Carol was more of a figure out the answers on her own type. He wasn't about to ruin the surprise. If he played it right, he'd probably be able to keep a number of things to himself for future surprises. Where was the fun in being completely figured out? Not that Clark was ever a man of mystery. Generally, what you see was what you got. Except for the whole alien superhero thing.

"I see you're doing a lot of talking," he replied with a grin, "did you change your mind?" In a blink of an eye, he zipped toward her -- stopping just out of arm's reach. "Should we stop?"

Oh, now who was the cocky one. She had already noticed how fast he could be, so when he zoomed up in front of her, she wasn't surprised. She figured he would sense any movement she made and dodge. Her right hand clenched and started to glow. Control it. The voice from her old mentor echoed in her ear.

Carol smirked, her eyes starting to glow. "I'm just getting started." And then, a burst of photon energy exploded through her- all around her. The blast was large enough to knock down a few trees in the area and impossible to dodge, even at super speeds. And then, she defused a little and floated back to the ground, waiting for the next move.

He grinned, seeing the unsurprised look on her face. Of course, he expected it. Carol was adept at adapting to her what was thrown at her. A skill he was certain most military people had to hone. What he had not expected was to be shot with crackling photon energy.

In truth, he should've been playing closer attention. He might've dodged the blast. Instead, though, he took the brunt of it -- managing to, in just enough time, to bring up his arms to keep it from his face and he could feel the blast initially push him back, but he propelled himself forward and kept himself from hitting the ground.

"Okay, then," he said under his breath and he darted directly at her, pulling his arm back, and right before going in for the punch directly square in the chest.

Well, she couldn't say she wasn't happy to see she got him back for the sucker punch earlier. But apparently, they were now both aware of what they were up against. And Carol was ready. He rushed towards her, and she moved out of the way just in time as he flew by, shooting a photon blast at him before flying back and a little higher.

Okay, maybe the blasts weren't exactly playing fair. She probably should consider it, but she also could already tell that he probably was faster than her- at least in this atmosphere. Her best chance would be to catch him off guard. She'd barely dodged the punch in the first place and she wasn't going to risk letting him get that close again if she could help it.

"So...what are you? Alien? Super-human?"

He spiraled out once heard the surge of energy, narrowly dodging out of that bolt. Clark spun out, and turned back to face Carol. Thankfully, there were enough tricks up his sleeve that he could surprise her a few more times. If he could help it, anyway.

He grinned. "So, you think aliens aren't human?" Sure, it was a tease, and he knew what she was asking, but she hadn't exactly been candid with him when he asked. "Your remind me a little of my cousin's adopted sister." Alex Danvers was an intense individual, but Carol's brand of humor... Well, he was sure they'd get along.

Carol wasn't surprised when he dodged, and it occurred to her that this might very well end in a stalemate. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that it probably wasn't so bad. She was still feeling a little better just having the chance to aim at a target (even if he kept moving), and even if he'd drawn blood from her, the adrenaline seemed to have a more of a calming effect on her mind.

"I didn't say that." She cocked her head, smirking and wondering how much he knew. Considering her own history, it was funny that he'd said that. "So alien. Got it. Hybrid? What species?"

When he mentioned a cousin's sister and she raised an eyebrow. "How so?"

"Is species the appropriate term?" he asked with a quirked brow. "Wouldn't it be more of a race situation?" He was, of course, just being a bit difficult. Mostly because it kept Carol off her game. "I'm not sure if you have my people in your universe," he said, and then he hesitated, "though we don't really have my people anymore in my universe either." As far as he knew, he and Kara were the last of their kind.

He smirked, though. "Dry humor. Straight forward. Soldiers." He hesitated. "Though, I suppose she's a scientist first." But that was neither here nor there. "Should I take this intense level of conversation as a white flag?"

"Race, then." She was smirking at the comment, though. Maybe it was the Kree talking, too. That whole need for purity of blood. Another reason it had been hard for her to live among them all those years. The mention that he was the last one did cause her grin to falter little, clearly hitting a nerve.

"Sounds like a girl after my own heart." Carol nodded before floating towards the ground again as he seemed willing to call a truce. As much as she wouldn't mind continuing, she had a feeling that they were at a stalemate. And there were only so many trees around, they probably didn't want to level the forest.

"So...who are</i? your people. Even if I don't know them in my universe, maybe there's a similar spec- er, race in my own. I've done some traveling around the galaxies, you never know."

Clark hovered in the air for a few moments as he looked out at the stars that weren't from his own universe. "I come from a planet called Krypton," he began, sadness tinging each word. "I'm told they were brilliant scientists." His face faltered. "They used up all of their planets resources and eventually it just..." He glanced back at Carol and mimicked an explosion in his hand. "My parents, though, managed to launch me to Earth on a ship beforehand."

He shrugged, though, before turning to face Carol again. "But that's all I know," he replied. "I don't know how much of it was glossed over and there's not really many people who can corroborate the story." That was, of course, mostly true. "How about you?"

Her eyes grew sad as he explained what happened to his planet and his family. "I'm sorry." Her words were sincere. It was the sort of story she'd seen across the universe before, but it never got any easier hearing it. She'd spent much of her life now trying to prevent such tragedies, but it was not always possible.

"I never heard of Krypton. But I have heard similar stories about other planets..."

She shook her head and sighed. Her? That was a hard one to explain. "Born human, but I have kidnapped years ago and my blood was replaced with a species called the Kree. So...guess now I'm a hybrid. The only human/Kree hybrid, actually. That's not why I can fly, though. The reason the Kree wanted me was because I'd been hit with energy from something called the Power Stone, and my body was able to absorb it and survive long enough for them to make the blood transfer- that's the only reason I survived, I'm told."

He shrugged. "It was all before I was born," he said with a small smile. "But there were a few things that were left to me, so they're not completely forgotten." The fact that the same thing had happened in other worlds was... Well, sad. But also reminded him that the universe was an unforgiving place when you did not take care of your home planet. Maybe that was why he'd been so driven to be the protector of his adopted home. Or at least, part of the reason.

"Alien abduction," he said with a slow nod. "And cosmic accident. You're really ticking all the metahuman boxes, aren't you?" He wore a small, teasing grin. He had a fair share of friends who'd had their own brush with alien abduction and experimentation. "I haven't met all that many extra terrestrials," he admitted. "Aside from my cousin, and another, we've gone fairly unnoticed." Despite the DEO's mission statement. Though, from what he was hearing, there were far more aliens hiding on earth than they realized. He just hadn't met them yet.

"Yeah, well I've always been an over-achiever," Carol shrugged off the meta-human comment with a half-grin. "Of course, I didn't get much say in this one."

It was funny. So much of her life now existed around things that were 'alien', that she couldn't imagine a universe without it. It really was different where he came from. "Huh. I mean, it's good that you're out there. Probably better that you've gone unnoticed- the planet, I mean. I don't know what your universe is like, but we have a pretty nasty extra-terrestrial presence out there." She'd crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head.

"The Kree, Ravagers, you name it." Of course, she'd battle them all. Though the one that got away caused the most harm. "Titans." The word came out quietly and she shook her head, not wanting to think about it.

"Anyway, glad your Earth has you."

Clark merely shrugged his shoulders. "My database has only really told me about a few races," he replied. "It's a bit dense, and I don't think I have the patience to listen to Kelex talk about alien physiology for very long." He smiled, though. "You certainly have encountered a good number. Must be fascinating."

"Well," he began with a faltering smile, "now they have my cousin and her friends." He hoped that was enough. Kara was just beginning her career, but he was confidents he was more than capable of taking care of anything if there was a job for someone super. He glanced up at the sky and took a deep breath before glancing back at his new friend. "Feeling better than before?" he asked.

"It is. Sometimes." Carol smirked in regards to her encounters with life outside of Earth's. It was honestly sometimes a bit less than pleasant, but she didn't have to explain that part. This man seemed like he would understand that.

His question caused her to laugh and she gave a half-shrug. "Yeah, something like that. How about you, flyboy?" Oh yeah, she wasn't going to let him get away without that nickname. "I appreciate it, though. Letting me try to punch you. We'll get there eventually."
