Who: Tony Stark and OPEN TO EVERYONE
What: A day at the races
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: The World's Fair
Warnings: None
OOC: See here and feel free to post separate threads!

Living within the bubble of his social circle meant that Tony didn't meet many new people on a daily basis. He tended to know the names or faces of each person he interacted with from day to day, and if they were new in his life then more often than not they were women. Women entered and left his life through the revolving door at the entrance to Stark Industries. Normal people, on the other hand, they were hard to come by. He didn't lack for company --Misty and Ianto certainly kept his life interesting-- but they were only two of what he was slowly realising were many people stranded in New York, outside of their own times and locales. While giving to charities was certainly a plus and he would never turn down the opportunity to drive a car extremely fast, the real purpose of the race, in Tony's mind, was to mingle. He wanted to know what was going on in his city.

He didn't blend into crowds particularly well, what with his distinctive facial hair and blue, Stark Industries racing jumpsuit, but this was still more new people than he'd been around in ages. The jumpsuit was quick to fall down at his waist once Tony had jumped off stage after saying the necessary few words about the importance of philanthropy, human responsibility and giving the winners their checks. He slid the sleeves down and tied them haphazardly around his waist before wiping sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. There was a change of clothes waiting for him somewhere, but after fifty laps of the track he wasn't so eager to be confined again too quickly. His thin undershirt was good enough for the moment, even with the arc reactor glowing visibly beneath the surface. It was a conversation starter... of a sort.

The main pavilion was bustling when he finally made it in that direction. Unnoticed at first, that was spoiled when a pretty, female reporter approached him and asked yet again if Stark Industries had anything to do with the new building complex that had gone up in Midtown. Tony wasn't sure in just how many languages he could tell these people, "I had nothing to do with it." Just as curious as the next person, the only reason he wasn't there examining the building himself was his prior obligation and plan to the race that afternoon. He could have slipped away then to see it, but not only would Misty have his neck, it would have defeated the purpose of being there at all. Tony continued his walk, a leisurely pace set towards the Globe and fountain at the center of the fair.

To Cloud's defense, he was distracted!

A...child, it must have been a child, had been swept off their feet possibly by spilled soda and there was a commotion in that side of the benches when they let out a mighty wail that had their father waddling over to them, cooing and all. He was going slow, and he must have watched for a bit too long because all of a sudden, he received a face-ful of papers and he stepped back before things got much worse.

Luckily, that meant he didn't have to watch the man roll down to the bottom of the steps.

Cloud reached to take his lower arm by a firm grip in case he was still in any danger of falling down. "'sokay," he said.

Then looked behind him to see the increasing traffic of bodies wanting to pass. Oh.

"I'm fine, thanks," he replied, stepping to the side so people could go around them. They were always in a big hurry even now, although he suspected that was just a symptom of New York. Or just a sign that people were ready to go home after the races.

Either way, he was in a fairly good mood about the outcome, so he didn't snap when someone pushed past him. Jack had come in second, and he'd managed not to die in the process. That was important because a little talk of the future could be ignored; Jack dying and coming back could not.

"Did you enjoy the race?" he asked conversationally, as another person pushed past. "Mr. Stark decided upon it rather... suddenly."

Cloud nodded, stuck where he'd met the man what with people trying to get ahead of him. People, really. "I had fun," he said as he decided against going to that route and instead, slipped inside the seating area so that he stood in the middle of two empty seats. "Not a bad race."

He glanced down at his paper and made a few quick notes. That would be helpful, at least. These races were dangerous, but it wasn't out-of-the-scope of publicly appropriate behaviour. He had to keep Stark from coming up with too many outlandish ideas; he didn't mind, but the rest of New York might.

"Thanks," he replied, glancing up at the sun. It was beginning to set, far in the west, but he could barely see it around all the buildings. "I'll let Mr. Stark know Mr...?" There was no point in learning everyone's name in a city this huge, but he couldn't completely shake his good manners.

"Ehh...Cloud," Cloud said with a subtle lift of his right hand to the side. "Cloud Strife," he decided to add just because the guy seemed like he was going to use it in some official matter.

People were still coming down from where he came and he intended to sit this one through before he charged forth and went on with his own business. But the sudden note-taking man was making it a little awkward for him so he gestured -- vaguely -- to the seats that surrounded them. "D'you...want to sit down or something?" Because really, there was no sense in standing around when people are pushing against you, was there?
