Who: Tony Stark and OPEN TO EVERYONE
What: A day at the races
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: The World's Fair
Warnings: None
OOC: See here and feel free to post separate threads!

Living within the bubble of his social circle meant that Tony didn't meet many new people on a daily basis. He tended to know the names or faces of each person he interacted with from day to day, and if they were new in his life then more often than not they were women. Women entered and left his life through the revolving door at the entrance to Stark Industries. Normal people, on the other hand, they were hard to come by. He didn't lack for company --Misty and Ianto certainly kept his life interesting-- but they were only two of what he was slowly realising were many people stranded in New York, outside of their own times and locales. While giving to charities was certainly a plus and he would never turn down the opportunity to drive a car extremely fast, the real purpose of the race, in Tony's mind, was to mingle. He wanted to know what was going on in his city.

He didn't blend into crowds particularly well, what with his distinctive facial hair and blue, Stark Industries racing jumpsuit, but this was still more new people than he'd been around in ages. The jumpsuit was quick to fall down at his waist once Tony had jumped off stage after saying the necessary few words about the importance of philanthropy, human responsibility and giving the winners their checks. He slid the sleeves down and tied them haphazardly around his waist before wiping sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. There was a change of clothes waiting for him somewhere, but after fifty laps of the track he wasn't so eager to be confined again too quickly. His thin undershirt was good enough for the moment, even with the arc reactor glowing visibly beneath the surface. It was a conversation starter... of a sort.

The main pavilion was bustling when he finally made it in that direction. Unnoticed at first, that was spoiled when a pretty, female reporter approached him and asked yet again if Stark Industries had anything to do with the new building complex that had gone up in Midtown. Tony wasn't sure in just how many languages he could tell these people, "I had nothing to do with it." Just as curious as the next person, the only reason he wasn't there examining the building himself was his prior obligation and plan to the race that afternoon. He could have slipped away then to see it, but not only would Misty have his neck, it would have defeated the purpose of being there at all. Tony continued his walk, a leisurely pace set towards the Globe and fountain at the center of the fair.

Cindy had been half tempted to join in the race. Her driving skills were not bad and she could have used a little action. But in the end she had put on a nice outfit – bright summery pink dress, matching heels, huge sunglasses and a large hat – and joined the crowd. Even if she had already lived the 60’s, she couldn’t help feeling how different it was this time. Less to none familiar faces for starters.

She knew that many of the new arrivals were using events such as these as an excuse to learn more about the period. In this, Cindy had a bit of an edge. Her knowledge of the times meant she could focus more intently of learning more about her fellow men and women. Potential allies and friends could be found in places like this if you knew where to look.

After the race was over she was one of the first few people leaving the benches, really looking forward to a cold drink and some semblance of conversation. As she made her way around, her eye caught a young good looking man doing some sort of circus act. He was very good and once it was over she clapped along with everyone else.

“That’s quite a talent you got there,” she said to him.

Kurt did what he knew he was going to do - and it could never be helped - but he blushed anyway. "Schönen Dank," he grinned, bright blue eyes still gleaming with the thrill of performing in front of a crowd. His image inducer watch remained firmly attached to his wrist - he wasn't going to assume that everyone had freaky eyes and could see through his disguise even if the first person he had talked to in length here during this time period could.

She was pretty. He would try not to stutter or trip over himself since he was obviously more coordinated than that. "It's what I grew up with, but that was mostly in Germany. I'm Kurt," he added, just in case she felt like knowing his name.

"Such a lovely country!" she said. Cindy had spent a lot of time in Berlin during 1963 - more than 40 years ago - tracking down enemy agents. "I'm Cindy. Have you been long in New York, Kurt?"

He perked up even more, if it were possible. Being that Kurt was generally a happy, beaming ray of positivity anyway. "Nice to meet you, Cindy," he said kindly. "Just about a year, but..." Well, this was always a tricky thing, wasn't it? Kurt didn't know exactly to phrase his predicament, apparently the identical predicament of many others trapped here. "Some days I feel like I'm from another decade entirely." Whoa, vague points, someone give this guy a medal!

"What about you?"

Cindy nodded. Another new arrival perhaps?

"I know the feeling. I've always feel like I'm on the wrong decade!" She laughed before looking at the guy. He seemed harmless enough. "Any chance I can buy you a drink and hear more about your story, Kurt?"

"You too?" Kurt blurted before he stopped himself from exploding more verbal diarrhea. Instead, he just clamped his mouth shut for a moment and nodded his happy curl-ridden head. "Ja, that sounds great. I'd love to hear yours too, because if I talked all about myself I'd feel like - " Well, the German word for it was arschloch, but anyway. "...like I'd put you to sleep."

He remembered his manners and offered his arm - though this girl didn't seem like the type to verbally berate him if he didn't do so. She seemed fun, and reminded him of the sunshine for some reason. Maybe it was the hair.

"We're becoming a big club," Cindy said with a smile. "And I'd love to tell you about myself too. All boring stuff compared to your talents though. Believe me when I say you look like a fun kind of guy."

She adjusted her hat carefully before placing her hand on the offered arm. "Shall we?"

Kurt smiled sheepishly, like he was one of the guilty ones - though in a way, he was. One of the special people picked for this round of time travel. How great! "That is what I hear," he said, squinting as he looked to and fro for something suitable to drink. Now, it just depended on what the lady would want!

"Lemonade, soda...beer, or wine?" he asked. "And I like to think I'm a fun kind of guy. I mean, what's the point of being serious all the time? Life is too short for that."

"Aren't we the lucky ones?" Cindy said, musing about their situation. It seemed random, different people from different times.

Ah well, time to think about it later! Now there had been talks of a drink?

"You know what? I'd love a lemonade," she admitted. "Alcohol is not that refreshing as you may think in hot afternoons." Not to mention she wanted to keep a clear head.

Drinks all around! Drink up me hearties yo ho! And all of that good stuff. However, Kurt would pass on the rum today. "That's true," he said, steering them off toward the lemonade stand. It looked as if other people had the right idea too - why dry yourself out with beer, as much as a German like him should appreciate beer? "Though I do not drink very much alcohol," he confessed. "I just turned twenty-one. I haven't had an experience where I go to a bar and wake up in a strange place yet."

"You are not missing much," Cindy said. "Hangovers are highly overrated." Not to mention dangerous if you had to face a Russian assassin the morning after.

"However, if you ever want to try something strionger, we could hit the town sometime."

"Yes, I would like that," he responded immediately, feeling elated that she had offered. A new friend! Kurt was glad to be making them here in this strange place, and he had a feeling alliances would be in his best interest. "When are you free? I am...well, most of the time." Maybe he shouldn't say that, on second thought. He didn't want to seem like a pathetic loser with blue bur and a tail to this very lovely woman.
