Who: Tony Stark and OPEN TO EVERYONE
What: A day at the races
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: The World's Fair
Warnings: None
OOC: See here and feel free to post separate threads!

Living within the bubble of his social circle meant that Tony didn't meet many new people on a daily basis. He tended to know the names or faces of each person he interacted with from day to day, and if they were new in his life then more often than not they were women. Women entered and left his life through the revolving door at the entrance to Stark Industries. Normal people, on the other hand, they were hard to come by. He didn't lack for company --Misty and Ianto certainly kept his life interesting-- but they were only two of what he was slowly realising were many people stranded in New York, outside of their own times and locales. While giving to charities was certainly a plus and he would never turn down the opportunity to drive a car extremely fast, the real purpose of the race, in Tony's mind, was to mingle. He wanted to know what was going on in his city.

He didn't blend into crowds particularly well, what with his distinctive facial hair and blue, Stark Industries racing jumpsuit, but this was still more new people than he'd been around in ages. The jumpsuit was quick to fall down at his waist once Tony had jumped off stage after saying the necessary few words about the importance of philanthropy, human responsibility and giving the winners their checks. He slid the sleeves down and tied them haphazardly around his waist before wiping sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. There was a change of clothes waiting for him somewhere, but after fifty laps of the track he wasn't so eager to be confined again too quickly. His thin undershirt was good enough for the moment, even with the arc reactor glowing visibly beneath the surface. It was a conversation starter... of a sort.

The main pavilion was bustling when he finally made it in that direction. Unnoticed at first, that was spoiled when a pretty, female reporter approached him and asked yet again if Stark Industries had anything to do with the new building complex that had gone up in Midtown. Tony wasn't sure in just how many languages he could tell these people, "I had nothing to do with it." Just as curious as the next person, the only reason he wasn't there examining the building himself was his prior obligation and plan to the race that afternoon. He could have slipped away then to see it, but not only would Misty have his neck, it would have defeated the purpose of being there at all. Tony continued his walk, a leisurely pace set towards the Globe and fountain at the center of the fair.

Zatanna knew wholeheartedly that she had no desire to ever have children of her own. It wasn't that she didn't like them, but the idea of being responsible for one beyond bringing the occasional smile to their faces seemed a daunting task at best. She could certainly make them smile though. After their parents got over the slight shock of her rather daring work clothes (which, she had heard one mother say, looked more like a 'working girl's' clothing) they surrendered their children to her small circle of magic for a time. Zatanna had little trouble keeping them entertained. Even if she hadn't been using real magic, the chances were they still would have been impressed. She was set up by the finish line at the raceway, and though the race had been over for a good half hour at this point, she still had a nice crowd.

Slight of hand produced a silver dollar from behind a seven year old girl's ear, while a bit of real magic ("evom rac yot eht ekaM") had a toy corvette replica zooming around the sidewalk on its own power while the boy who owned it chased behind. It was all simple, but effective and at the same time she found herself smiling as well. She hadn't wanted to come out this afternoon, but show producers had insisted upon it, going on about how well it would work to promote her Sunday night appearances. Zatanna wasn't much for car racing, but she made the best of where she'd been placed.

"I want a balloon animal." One particularly petulant girl demanded, looking as if she were about to stomp her foot.

A perfect example of why she didn't want brats of her own. She smiled before saying, "raor ruasonid noollab a akaM." And when a pink balloon dinosaur appeared in the girl's hands out of thin air drawing out a self satisfied grin before a terrified scream when the thing began to roar loudly, Zatanna couldn't help but grin.

Galen had watched the race with interest. His new (to him anyway) Lincoln was a fun and nostalgic vehicle, but it certainly was not a race car, which left him out of the competition. It was after the race that he noticed the costumed magician working the crowd near the finish line. As a mage was wont to do, he went to a passive scanning mode, trying to spot how she was doing her tricks.

He was just coming to the conclusion that either her technology was far advanced from his, or she really was doing magic with her backwards speak when this magician made a solid balloon animal appear in a child's arms and then roar. Galen couldn't help but respond to the magician's grin with one of his own, and quiet handclapping and a quick "Bravo!"

Zee scooped the dinosaur up off the ground after the girl dashed off and silenced it with a simple word. She handed it to a little boy who seemed far politer than the girl who'd had it first. The call of 'bravo' from behind made her turn after patting the boy's head. Her eyes focused on the man she suspected had spoken and at first she sighed. Male attention was not a new thing for a woman who made a living in fishnets and heels.

"Thank you." She bowed slightly and tipped off her top hat, tucking it underneath her arm. The children looked on expectantly, obviously waiting for a rabbit, a dove, or some other living thing to be pulled out of it. Never one to disappoint, Zee proceeded to reach inside. Her arm disappeared up to just past her elbow. "Enjoying the show?" she asked the man, reaching around for the rabbit she knew she'd put into the pocket dimension inside of her hat before leaving the house that morning.

Galen nodded, still smiling. "I always enjoy watching a mage at work." He continued running a passive scan on the woman, noting what appeared to be a small pocket of warp energy emitting from her hat. As a matter of fact, most of the energy reading of this woman were definitely odd.

"Your touch with the crowd, masterful. Surely there's a rabbit in there somewhere." He glanced down at her hat and the arm reaching inside it. "So traditional a trick, but children of all ages always love it. And I also love your stage costume. Obviously no place to hide things there."

"My name is Galen, by the way."

"Oh, I know there is," Zee answered, turning briefly to give the children an obvious and playful wink. "I put it in there myself this morning!" Her hand finally made contact with the scruff of a neck and she licked her lips before making a show of struggling to pull it out. Grinning, Zee soon held a remarkably well behaved rabbit in the air.

"Zatanna Zatara. We talked on the cork boards that aren't cork boards." She could manage a conversation and a performance at once, so long as she had her voice for both. "evod otni tibbaR!" I do go through an awful lot of rabbits, she thought, glancing up as the rabbit-turned-dove flew off into the air. Her audience was thrilled.

"Indeed." Galen nodded, "If you'd like to chat a while after your show, I have the time."
