Hat tip to tubbsen for this hysterical clip "Major Donaldson" with Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie. It ain't Jeeves & Wooster! It is, however, reminiscent of another English and German pair that we all know and love.

CMX Translations - So right, so wrong, so...slashy?

Notes: I started this on the Eroicafans.org message board last February, but had to stop because of a death in the famly. I suppose it's time I started again. I was in the process of reading all the CMX translations because I didn't really sit down and do that when I got them. There are some glaring errors (to me, anyway) and some humorous and slashy bits. That is what I'd like to share, story by story. If I missed something humorous and/or slashy, let me know.

--> First off, let my say it annoys me that everyone calls Dorian “Earl” instead of “Lord Gloria” or “my lord” or “your lordship.” Okay. Moving on...

Probably the only story that conforms in any way to 'formula' manga. )

World's shortest fairy tales

Notes: Four versions of the world's shortest fairytale, snagged from xwingace and reposted here, because I found the fourth one amusing.

The misogynistic 1:
Once upon a time there was a boy who asked a girl to marry him.
She said no.
And he lived happily ever after.

The misandric 2:
Once upon a time there was a boy who asked a girl to marry him.
She said no.
And she lived happily ever after.

Full equality:
Once upon a time there was a boy who asked a girl to marry him.
She said no.
And they lived happily ever after.

And the slash fanfic 3:
Once upon a time there was a boy who asked another boy to marry him.
He said yes.
And the fangirls lived happily ever after.

XWA
1) The version my dad read out of a joke book.
2) My knee-jerk reaction
3) With thanks to sereighna for a little inspiration.

Notes: As requested by [info]mprice, I've posted a comic strip I scanned yesterday. It's in Filipino so I had to translate the dialogue. Apologies for the crappy quality.

Panel 1:
Guy : Can we stop watching your yaoi anime? I can't handle male-male love anymore!

Panel 2:
Guy : Let's just watch Ultimate Fighting. It's pure action with none of the subtext!
Girl : Pfpht!

Panel 4:
Girl : Ooh. Mommy likes.
Guy : *facepalm*

Who is the real Major?

Notes: We are all aware of the fact that Dorian and his immediate following are modeled after Led Zeppelin. The question then arises...Who is the Major modeled after? Whenever the author is asked, she says herself and men in the military whom she has always admired. Hmmm...Aoike-san has dark hair, smokes, is Catholic...

Wait...the Major is a Mary-Sue!

After he's introduced, the established love interest is thrust into the background and then vanishes. (Thank God!) The Major is drop-dead handsome, is descended from nobility, has an unusual eye color, is THE best intelligence officer in NATO, has a cool code name, has an unusual last name, (As our German members will attest. I mean...von dem?), can fire a Magnum one-handed, he breaks all the rules, including having unusually long hair for a military officer. In other words, he's PERFECT!

Well, maybe not quite perfect, but Dorian thinks so. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Any thoughts?

Russians & the KGB as depicted in Western European comics...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

By: esda

Posted: September 30, 2007

Notes: I was just scrolling through the comic "Spirou and Fantasio in Moscow" (for those who don't know it: a Belgian comic that at first started as a Tintin copy) and did nearly fall from my chair, when I saw how Russians are depicted in that comic. It's, of course, meant in a funny and not serious way and the KGB isn't depicted all that bad (but then this comic is from 1990, when it was nearly the end of the Soviet Union).

picture 1: Russians
(what made me nearly fall from my chair was "the hot-blooded manly greeting kiss" xD, Mischa really shouldn't say anything against Dorian wanting to "greet" the Major that way! XD)
picture 2: the KGB

I did only put the links to the images here, because they are HUGE and would kill the lj layout ^^° (even behind an lj-cut)

Wild Boar

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

By: Magaret Price

Posted: September 21, 2007

Notes: I corrected someone the other day when they called the boar in an Eroica drawing a warthog. They then asked, "What's the difference?" So, being the information junkie that I am, I looked it up.

Now, I must share what I learned about the wild boar in Great Britain, compliments of Wiki.

The wild boar became extinct in Great Britain and Ireland by the 17th century, but wild breeding populations have recently returned in some areas, particularly the Weald, following escapes from boar farms.

Being unfamiliar with where the "Weald" is, I clicked the link...

As a geographical term, the Weald is a region in the South of England situated between the chalk hills of the North Downs and South Downs, that extends across the counties of Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey.

I am way too easily amused.

Incidentally, the wild boar and warthog are not the same thing. They are in the same Suidae biological family, however.

Bad!Fic sporkage

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
By: Margaret Price

Posted: August 6, 2007

Notes: Everyone seems rather down of late, so here is a bit of humor to cheer you up.

Last January, I posted a link to my MSTie LJ bitch_spork of the only chapter of a deleted Eroica bad!fic I had discovered on my harddrive. Thanks to my fellow Eroicafen, I was able to get copies of the other two chapters, which I have since sporked to death.

The title is "His Guardian Angel or The Triumph of Caesar." I have no idea who the author is/was, as they used the pen name "Eroica" at the time and have since deleted not just this fic, but also their entire profile from FF.net.

WARNING: Everyone is completely out of character, canon is pretty much out the window, and I take no prisoners. Oh, yeah, and it promises shameless slash and doesn't deliver. It was originally rated T, but I think PG would be pushing it.

Enjoy. Or not.

Notes: THE ultimative spam-post of random things ^^°

(at first a little advertising xD)
Over at Yaoi!Gallery I created a From Eroica With Love-Club, since there seemed to be none and there are definitely too few Eroica fanarts on the web.

So, if you are a fanartist, please join this club. (And if you have no account on Yaoi!Gallery already, create one!! This website is great and it's a lot easier to handle and better to overlook than Deviant Art!)

One more reason to join: You can't see the "adult"-images, if you aren't member of Yaoi!Gallery. ;)

on with the spammage:

That's something I saw at the train station in Mainz. Klaus would have loved it, I'm sure :D

Notes: To get over the post holiday doldrums, I offer a little levity in the form of an Eroica bad!fic I found on my harddrive. I sporked it ages ago but never posted to my MSTie LJ. It's only the first chapter, because the fic has since been deleted from the internet. You can find it here--> linky linky
