Eroica Addicts Anonymous, romanticising news headlines since 1975

(Disclaimer: In no way do I condone art thefts, or indeed real life thievery of any kind...)

...but it seems that Eroica & co have been keeping busy:

"The theft of the century" in Switzerland - men with ski masks, bold as brass plain day theft. No one was hurt. Experts say that the paintings are too well-known to be sold. Aren't they hanging in some North Downs castle, I wonder...? "The boy in the red waistcoat" sounds like something Dorian would fancy... ;)

(I side with direaliete, however, who alerted me to this theft, that it can't be related to the Picasso one. We don't see Dorian going for Picasso.)

Jewelry stolen in Italy - "Before Sunday's real-life Italian Job, they had dug for several weeks from a building under construction next door. [...] The seven men, unarmed and unmasked" [...] "The thieves tied the staff up with plastic cable and sticky tape." (Sounds like James' cheapness, right?) [...] "Police say it was an extremely professional job" - thanks to Dorian's graceful style, no doubt.

How's Klaus doing these days, though?

• Preparing for the NATO Summit, maybe. (If my compatriots are as prepared as they've got me used to, Klaus is going to have a lot of shouting to do...)

(I [still] know the difference between reality and fiction, so I will not lurk around the building trying to catch a glimpse of the German delegation. ;) Though tempted I am... But it's funny, because last year I wouldn't have cared about this summit except for the fact that the airport's going to be closed for three days, causing even more chaos than usual, and now I find it fascinating.)

Notes: I am kinda new to this community. I've been watching it for a while, but I've never done a post. So this is my first post, YEA ME!!!!!

Anyway on to the goodies. I don't know if all you Eroica fans out there know, but there is a site where you can get your hands on your very own copy of Plus Ultra, and a really cool Eroica coloring book (it even has Klaus and Dorian paper dolls in the back). I put in a request to this site a little while ago asking if they could order these products for me (cost too much on ebay). And being the fabulous people they are, they did. These books can be found at akadotretail.com. http://www.akadotretail.com/index.php. If you place your order before 3pm pacific time mon. - fri. your order ships same day. I usually use FEDEx Home, it always comes the next day.

Here is the link for Plus Ultra:

P.S. Love this book. The art is all color (thats 200 pages) and unbelievable.

Guns and Roses - Soundtrack for a Chase

(Yes, I groan at myself, but I couldn't resist the call of the obvious...)

This fanmix has been eating my brains, energy and what passes for my life for the past month(s). I've researched, obtained and listened to enormous amounts of music in search of the Perfect Tracks. Since perfection is not of this world, the quest is always open, but I'm pretty pleased with this one (pleased enough to grin at myself the mirror). A great tank you :D thank you goes out to partner in crime [info]direaliete, who provided a couple of the key tracks.

Crossposted at fanmix, with the exception of the ficlets. Oh, yeah, there are some ficlets further down.

Notes: I realize this will sound odd, but I think this is the most visual story thus far. The author seems very comfortable with the way the characters have been established and is now playing with them. The wonderful wordless images that tell us exactly what the character is thinking. The Major and his men on the plane is a great example. (page 179) She also takes full advantage of the “vastness” of Alaska. There are lots of lovely backgrounds and sweeping landscapes. (pages 181-2, 198, 199, 202,)

Eroica feature in AWO podcast

Notes: I found a anime podcast that talks about Eroica when I was searching for some things a few days ago that you may find interesting. The show is almost an hour and half long, with Eroica claiming about thirty minutes. The people talking are a extremely slightly annoying, but they do explain the series well and there are some funny bits. (How you could go on for nearly thirty minutes about Eroica and not give one, not even one, mention of how ungodly hot Klaus happens to be is still puzzling to me, honestly. : | ) Here it is for anyone who's interested:

It really is unlucky: Pluto, Eroica, and Katsuhito Akiyama

Notes: I haven't been able to locate the URL for my previous "bad" Japanese post. I may be able to on the actual computer I used when I found it. While searching, however, I found this little tid-bit on Wiki concerning the acronym for yaoi. Or more accurately, the backronym for it.
</p>

The blanket term "yaoi" is an acronym for the phrase "Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi", which means "no peak, no point, no meaning".

--> A
backronym identifies it as "Yamete, oshiri (ga) itai" which literally means "Stop, my ass hurts!"

Notes: Found this on a site of "bad" Japanese words. I have no idea as to the accuracy of this, since the writer seems to think that the word "drek" is common in America.

Kono imo! [f/m] = Home boy! Hick!

Literally means, "you potato!" from the fact that potatoes are grown in the country. Therefore, imo nä-chan & imo në-chan are "potato boy" & "potato girl" meaning they are unfashionable, or that their talk is not-so-wiz.]

Potato Klaus. Heh

EDIT: Here is the link to the site. linky linky

Also, Home boy is a mistranslation. It is a term more commonly used by inner city blacks. Home boy or homie. Not even remotely a country bumpkin type.

And now for something completely different...

Notes: With the stories getting longer, it's going to take longer for me to go through them. I have reached the point where I stopped last year. Also, I am going to break them into parts so they don't get too unwieldy.

So, to tide you over until I finish "Alaskan Front," I give you this postcard that I found ages ago in my mother's collection.

Notes: This story has my favorite artistic rendering style for the Major. He no longer has the androgynous look of the first two books, and is more accurately proportioned to a normal human being. As is Dorian. When I think of the Major, this is the style in which I picture him.

Oh, yeah. And the cover is to die for. It isn’t the same as on the Japanese Book Four. I have no idea how the author got the Major into that leather outfit, but I would willingly fight Dorian for a chance to peel him out of it.

Introduction and a question!

Posted: February 25, 2008

Notes: 'Lo 'lo everyone! I've been semi-lurking around this community for about two years and finally decided to officially introduce myself. I've been actively following the comings and goings of this community and found that the people in this fandom are really wonderful ^_^ It's been delightful to read everything posted here, and now it's time for a question of my own!
About Klaus and Sister Theresa... )
I started contemplating the idea, and I think this would partly explain why Klaus is so shocked to realise how much older Sister Theresa has gotten during his years of absence. In his memories, she was still relatively young, but she has aged a lot since then. You cannot deny the melancholy we see when Klaus departs from her. I think during his visit his feelings changed, and that afterwards he truly sees her as a motherly figure only. Just try and compare the two Sister Theresas saying “Klaus, you really do like chips, don’t you?” on pages 12 and 53 (the latter ends the side story, and we all know that last sentences are very important in storytelling).
I’m not trying to force a theory on anyone; this is just how the side story came across to me. I’m all for Dorian and Klaus getting together (like that'll ever happen T__T), I’m just saying that everyone has a history and it would be like Klaus to fall in love with someone unattainable like Sister Theresa. I could ramble about my psychological theories for hours but I’ll just say this: Even Iron Klaus is human. Now, I’m interested in what other people thought about it, or if you thought about it at all. If this has already been discussed somewhere then I’m sure someone has phrased better what I’ve been trying to communicate here.
Thanks if you read this far! So, opinions, everyone? ^_^

foxypope, you'll be interested to know that this story starts out in May of 2002, when Russia entered into a partnership with NATO. From what I can gleen from just flipping through the first part, Klaus is ordered to work with Mischa, the information coming from Polar Bear, who manages to give the dear Major a swift kick in the ass! XD

At some point in this, the Major dons a burka as a disguise.
