It's okay, Babs, I think the flying monkeys are scary, too!

(Actually, the Wicked Witch always scared me the most because she wanted to hurt poor little Toto!)

And to tie in with the couple of neat Frankenstein posts from the last little while, Kate Beaton on the Shelleys:

D:

Another Kate Beaton one:

Oh, Rex Murphy. XD

Okay, also this:

The Byron & Shelleys comic is one of my favorites.

Mine too! Mary Shelley had a pretty messed up young life, I'm told.

No, pretty sure I haven't! Is it about her?

It's a really fictionalized telling of the visit between the Shelleys and Lord Byron that inspired Frankenstein, with a focus on Mary's depressed mental state and the loss of her baby. Kind of a mixed bag overall, but it's got a good cast (Gabriel Byrne is Lord Byron!) and creepiness.

Better yet, have you seen "Night of the Marionattes" and episode of an old UK anthology horror series called "Supernatural" from the 1977?

It's a story based on an academic seeking to find out the truth about the Shelley's visit to the Villa Diodati where Frankenstein was written, and discovering the ghastly truth, which involves the most mind bogglingly ghastly puppet show ever depicted in any media(and that includes "Meet the Feebles")

Creepier than The Mysterious Stranger? Because damn, Mark Twain.

That's creepy partly because it has an eeries beauty to it.

"Night of the Marionettes" toddles along like a seemingly standard BBC horror drama of the late 70's and then lurches into the truly grotesque sequence which is really one of the most "WTF?" moments I can recall.

Which is a shame, because her parents were apparently modern (by our standards) and nice apparently.

Yeah, her mother was a writer and feminist as well, and IIRC her father was insistent on her being educated.

It's probably my favorite of all Kate Beaton's done so far. Though they're all exceedingly awesome.
