MA:Avengers 14
So the Avengers are called to a pocket dimension helping a farming tribe defend themselves from barbarians. The thing is, they realize that if they just defeat them this year, the Marauders will just regroup and try again later.

I love the characterization in MA:A. I don't think I can stress that enough. The characters are all heroic, but they're also humans too.

Also, I really do enjoy how Storm gets to be really bad ass without an overflow of T&A shots. I'm just sayin'.

And look at how Bruce Banner gets to be smart when he's not Hulking out! D'aww!

I love this Wolverine so much more than the gritty, growly one that basically goes 'snikt' and drinks beer. Perhaps I'm biased, but I don't think we'd ever get scenes like this in current 616 canon.

Okay, more Storm being awesome. She's playing a part to intimidate the enemy, but, I mean, that's still scary as all hell.

Actually, I'm only including the next page because of Spidey. Look at that outfit. Everyone else gets minor modifications to their costumes and he gets an entirely new set of clothing. Look at his little tunic! Look at his buccaneer boots!

In the end, the Avengers save the day and the tribe insists on paying them. Only they're farmers, so the Avengers come trooping home to Jarvis with three tons of rice and beans. It's a glorious page, which is why you should go buy the comic to see it!

Certain segments of The Authority come to mind, unfortunately. :/

For the record, I remember being pretty darn disappointed in Torchwood. The best episode was the last one in the first season, with the time-travelling and the Captain Jacks falling in love and whatnot.

That was the second last one of the first season, and I didn't care for it any more than the others, what with the pointless reveal that the REAL Jack Harkness just happened to be gay too and ending by snogging a guy in public (never mind in front of his aircrew), you just simply DIDN'T do that in 1941 Britain, it would be professional suicide, and he probably wouldn't have been allowed to fly again.

And I'm sorry, you're Torchwood, you're stuck in the same city at the wrong time.. and you never think to contact the 1941 Torchwood team? How thick ARE these people...

Common fan theory is that the original Jack Harkness was actually murdered for being gay, thanks to Captain Jack snogging him. So it's a Stable Time Loop/Predestination Paradox: Jack gets his name from a dead guy, goes back in time, causes the guy to be dead, thus providing him with his name. Nice job breaking it, hero.

:(

So Yeah, no more Torchwood or anything by RTD for me.

To Marvel Adventures! Heck, I even like Sponge Bob Squarepants way more, holding a job, having friends, having hobbies, so much better than cheating and drugging your husband and date rape sprays and all the many kinds of bad kinds of screws.

I think, that we are finally out of grim, I mean, MA, the kids reading it now, the parents reading it now, Obama, the new PM in Japan, THAT's The Future, and it's brilliantly beautiful.

The 1st season is by and large utter shite, and the precredit sequence of 2x01 really sums up just how very very wrong Davies was in how he set Torchwood up.
