Odd that Baby Wildebeest is actually less cutesy in the cutesy Teeny Titans.

There is no part of Mirage's insertion (and bring your own context to the verb) into the Dick/Kory relationship which was not just... at best... sleazy as hell.

And the lack of payback for it, in terms of karma if nothing else, has always rankled the hell out of me.

Well they did have her get raped by her "Nightwing". Which I didn't mind, I HATE Mirage. She's probably the only Team Titan I actually LOATHED.

I did wonder about mentioning that as being some sort of karmic payback, bit it happened a couple of years later, in a different title, under a different writer, and would be such a loathesomely squick-inducing form of karmic payback that I'd rather not dwell on it.

Who are the two women oogling over the Nightwing action figure?

(If they weren't fictional character I would have sworn they were eregular posters on SD). JK

Members of the "Team Titans", a team from a dystopian future who came back to try and make sure it never happened. Think "DC trying to make an X-Force out of the Titansverse". It didn't really work, and they were a sort of unlamented casualty of "Zero Hour".

The one with the odd eyes is Mirage, a shapechanger who kidnapped the real Starfire and impersonated Kory to get close to Dick (She was future!Nightwings lover in her future, and didn't see why that should change just because he was wih someone else (Yes, it's as skeevy as it sounds). She's the one who posed nude whilst in Starfires form, just to PO Kory as shown here.

The other is Redwing, standard winged metahuman female.

Aww you make Redwing sound so plain. Come on she was Robin/Bucky to the future Captain America/Nightwing with his awesome shield and all.

You know for someone you describe as a standard winged meta human, she is pretty hot.

Well, avian humans do tend towards the more impressive and attractive; Warren, Josh, even Redwing, Sheira, Kendra even, in a neanderthal sort of way, Carter.

But you should know by now it's not the bird GIRLS I like, its the bird BOYS! :)

Yep yep. He had some work related to the Team Titans including pencilling the first issue of Team Titans (the Redwing issue only though)

He also did a full centerfold shot of Mirage-as-Kory for the issue, too. I don't have a scan handy (I own the issue, but no scanner), but I'm sure it's up on one of the Rule34 boards somewhere.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I never did like this period of Titans.

I just want to live in my own little world where everything that happened after The Judas Contract never existed. Although Jericho wasn't so bad.

What's the text right under "EXXXPOSE"?

I can only make out "Entertainment for lee...(something) and middle aged men."

Between this version and the version seen on the book's cover (they're different!), it's legible as "Entertainment for Leering Teenagers and Middle-Aged Men."

This, of course, being a reference to Playboy's "Entertainment for Men" tagline.

As this IS a spoof of the "Tiny Toon Adventures" genre (even down to internal "Acme" references), that shouldn't really be surprising

No one specific, which is why I said "genre" not "series". :)

Tiny Toons made fun of itself from it's first episode by acknowledging it was essentially cuter teeny versions of classic WB characters.

I suppose - from what I've seen of it, though, the show's strengths came largely through its willingness to break away from from its inspiration when appropriate, to not just be 'Oh, hey! Aren't the Looney Tunes just the greatest? And we're just like them, but younger!' over and over again. I mean, Buster and Babs and Plucky may have been younger versions of Bugs and Daffy, but they're very distinct characters in their own right.

The shows major strength was being incredibly funny (Paul Dini's episode of "Batduck and Decoy (the Pig Hostage)" being a highlight, and an early taste of what was to come in BATS), and, in true Looney Tunes style, mocking themselves as much as anything. Most of the characters were based on a classic characteristic signature personality traits(Dizzy Devil - Taz, Plucky - Daffy) etc but yes, they had their own personalities, thankfully.

Oh, absolutely, but it wouldn't have been nearly as funny if it had centered solely on the basic concept, i.e, 'young proteges of the Looney Tunes'. A good deal of the episodes had almost nothing to do with that concept, and they were some of the best.
But yes, it was frequently hilarious. A favorite moment, from the 'Dream Date Game' episode:

Elmyra: Bachelor #1 - we're out at an expensive restaurant, and you find that you've forgotten your wallet. WHO WAS THE 12TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?!

Plucky: Pierre Shostakota!

Both have Deathstroke as the little kids' teacher, for instance.

Ya know what? I've been thinking about this since first seeing the post earlier today, and I don't really think Gar would be sneaking out snickering to get Kory's centerfold. I think he'd probably be squicked out by the very idea of it.

Yeah, Kory's gorgeous; but she's somebody he knows and trusts. He feels he can leer at her all he wants as her friend, but I think the idea of millions of strangers doing it would make him blow a gasket. Besides, I have a hard time believing in all those years he hasn't seen at least that much of Kory in nonsexual contexts already, given her lack of cultural body-shame.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]psychop_rex

It could be that he's being so sneaky about it simply because he KNOWS that she's going to blow a gasket when she finds out about it, and he wants to know alllllllll the details when she does. I mean, given his history as a practical joker, I can see him wanting to exploit the situation for comedy a bit.

If the show in question depicts the Titans as cutesy kid versions of themselves, then why is the Nightwing action figure that results from it one of him as an adult?

It was a multi-media marketing campaign, they were also in discussion for a live action movie (Dick had been sort of hoping that Tom Cruise would play him. This was a long time ago of course..)
