Oh. I have this fondness as well. I know that scene and have collected all of Batman Family. Big fan of Don Newton.

But here's my take: It's like the writer of this thing just saw that. And built a whole story around... that. Without getting it.

Also, interpreted it for us. I liked the ambiguous idea--in the original--that we didn't know if Babs was asleep or what.

The writing of Nightwing Annual # 2 (above) is tortured and melodramatic to me. It's not how that original Batman Family scene should be referenced.

And since the writer so obviously doesn't get Dick, Babs or Kory... I don't think it's the writer 'remembering' an episode in their lives. I think the writer just looked up something and grabbed it, making the story seem nostalgic, but... it totally doesn't go with Dick and Babs suddenly getting it on after years of subtle flirting from a totally different place for both of them.

So... I like the 70s interactions (and the age difference that got erased when Babs got retconned into a child) don't think it meshes well with this soap opera of a story.

Actually, in the original? She was facing the other way, he just had his back turned, and she was asleep. So they even got that wrong.
