Quick Casstoon Reaction: Batgirl 1 and Suprising News
Sorry for the gap folks who care, work got on top of me.

Here is a reaction to the first issue of this new series. Still working on the art though unfortunately.

By me

And in an unrelated matter, DC are apparently going to do a Batman Beyond miniseries.
http://blog.newsarama.com/2009/08/24/batman-beyond-returns/

Whether it would be a DCAU series or a DCU one based on a "reimagined" Terry McGinnis, I don't know, but I look forward to it away.

The BATMAN/SUPERMAN: VENGEANCE story briefly featured Batman Beyond. The only thing is, I can't remember if the "black and red" Batman in that story was called "Terry" or "Tim" by Bruce over the radio.

He was referred to as "Tim" later this was called a "misprint", that would be corrected in the trade to read "Terry"...but that never happened. Batman Beyond was supposed to have appeared in 52 as well ( it was kinda dicey).

I just hope DC ditches the half clone of Bruce Wayne add on that was foolishly included in the last episode of JLU.

TV.com says:

"Epilogue" came from a planned, but unproduced Batman Beyond movie. The movie was rejected due to the controversies concerning Return Of The Joker. The movie had Selina Kyle (not Amanda Waller) creating a clone of Batman (rather than using nano-engineered sperm). The two successful clones were Terry and another who would serve as the antagonist of the film. Selina's Batman would go as far as killing criminal from Batman Beyond including older ones such as The Riddler.

I have heard this. I was at a panel when Bruce Timm commented on it and said that , yes there was to be an offspring from a Bruce/Selina pairing that might have been a Huntress, but the rest was crap. so Dunno.

Personally, I think the story just works SO much better without a direct connection to Bruce. Terry beats the Joker...by being himself and NOT playing it the way Bruce would. In the end Terry carried on the legacy without the type of whimpering sock that DG or a direct offspring would have.

There is an easter egg on the season one dvd that lets you see the original artwork for the project when it was called "TomorowKnight", and had a direct offspring and the all the villians were based on the originals (Joker jr.) ect. The team rightly tossed it all out and put much more time between the end of Brices carrier and the start of Terry's.

Yikes...that sounds even worse.

Pretty much everything Volksjager just said is exactly how I feel. The story is better without him being genetically connected to Bruce. That was the best part of Return of the Joker to me. The fact that Terry wasn't Bruce and didn't need to be. Him being technically his son just dampens all that. What purpose does it serve? Bleh.

Totally, I was blown away with the disclosure in it. I and many a friend thought that Batman beyond was project that was done without any "suits" to fuck it up. It turns out it was the "suits" that came up with the whole thing. Bruce Timm was talked into it and got a full green light after one meeting, then panicked after the week-end thinking it would be crap and didn't wanna do it. They realized that the only way it worked was to break from the hokey stuff and start a new character.

I also hated how in the last JLU episode terry was all baulked up( I liked his more spider man body and muscles and more muscles) and still had the same girlfriend after all the years.

Yeah, I hated mega buff Terry too.

I'm uncertain how I feel about him being Bruce's son though. On the one hand, I like that all that was needed was passion and training and that Batman could be passed on to someone unexpected. On the other hand, it's not like Terry being Bruce's son actually changes anything, Bruce wasn't involved in Terry's childhood at all so he's still a completely different person. Hell, they didn't even have Terry tell Bruce about their relation.

which is why I hated the "boys from Brazil" moment where Babs is made to don the Phantasm outfit and Kill Terry "father" so he and Bruce would share the same formative experiences. The best thing about beyond' to me was Terry being about to become his own Batman (unlike Dick Grayson).

That wasn't Babs, it was the original Phantasm.

Waller picked people with psychological profiles that reflected Bruce's but they're still different people, Terry would never be Bruce, no matter how much they tried.

Especially since Terry is only half Bruce. It's like expecting a kid to be identical to their parent. Sure, there's a resemblance and they might share some innate aptitudes but ultimately different people. That was Waller's whole point in that episode, terry isn't just Bruce version 2, he was his own person who made his own choices and did so ina similar but different way than Bruce had.

No, it's Andrea aka the Phantasm, she refuses to do it as she knows what it's like for your parents to be killed by criminals (as knows Bruce does too).

She decides not to do it as she knows that she and Waller can't honour Bruce's legacy by killing people, which Waller admits is true so they scrap the plan.

What are you going by? Because my information comes from the people that amde the episode.

It being Babs makes absolutely no sense in any way.

In comics, imo, making somebody someone's son just implies they've inherited stuff in their DNA. There's no way it can just be a coincidence that the same kid who becomes Batman is also Bruce's son.

It's the same feeling as the one Morisson has about Damian--he's got Bruce's DNA so it doesn't matter if he was raised by assassins. He's a hero at heart. Blech.

Ugh, how did I hate that epilogue… Its really undermined the entire point of Batman Beyond… I hate the whole “you have to be related to a hero/super person to matter” crap DC has been on lately. It makes me really sad to see so many people praising it on the blog's comments.

I dunno - I wouldn't have said your artwork was all that bad. That third panel is actually pretty well done, with the hair and cloak whipping around in the wind - you get a real sense of movement.
I could be wrong, but I thought that scene took place on a rooftop, not a pier.
Great line about her 'mighty brain'.
