Marvel in November
Six solicitations, with commentary.
NEW AVENGERS #59
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Pencils & Cover by STUART IMMONEN
Aw, it’s been a long long time since Spider-Man and Spider-Woman had some alone time. Some nice quality time. Too bad this isn't that time. We'd tell you who they are fighting here but it'll spoil some big goings on in the issues you haven't read yet. From the dashing duo of Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen!
Spidey's never really had much to do with any of the ladies who spun off from his name (in what was probably a deliberate choice), so I'd be interested to see the two of them as a team.
Continue to like Immonen's work on the series.
THE MARVELS PROJECT #4 (of 8)
Written by ED BRUBAKER
Penciled by STEVE EPTING
Cover by STEVE MCNIVEN
Cover by STEVE EPTING
Variant Cover by GERALD PAREL
Project Rebirth begins! As 98 pound weakling Steve Rogers finally enters the picture, Nazi spies move in the shadows onto US soil...and the Angel comes close to finding the man who's murdering masked heroes.
The first issue managed to cover what felt like mostly new ground; one hopes they'll not spend too much time rehashing Steve's by now very familiar story (or, at least, show some new parts of it; I really liked the brief scene in Reborn #2 that had Steve talking with Dr. Erskine, almost as a father figure. You could do something with that).
MS. MARVEL #47
Written by BRIAN REED
Penciled by MARK ROBINSON
Cover by PASQUAL FERRY
The War of The Marvels is over, but before Carol Danvers can deal with it’s aftermath, she must brace herself as she faces down the biggest mistake she made before her apparent death...promising Spider-Man she’d go out with him. Brian Reed teams with Mark Robinson (SKRULL KILL KREW) to bring you THE AMAZING SPIDER-DATE!
Heh. Kind of a generic cover, though; given the premise of the issue, you'd think you could do something more inventive.
FANTASTIC FOUR #573
Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Penciled by DALE EAGLESHAM
Cover by ALAN DAVIS
Adventures on Nu Earth! Ben and Johnny have big plans for a much needed vacation in the company of refugees from the future - booze, ladies, misadventures...and two stowaways named Franklin and Val.
I have to admit, the solicits for Hickman's stuff do sound good. Amusing Davis cover (he's kind of fallen into a bit of a rut as a light comedy artist, I have to say).
IMMORTAL WEAPONS #5 (of 5)
Written by DAVID LAPHAM
Art by ARTURO LOZZI
Cover by DAVID AJA
He is the oldest, most skilled and most venerated of the Immortal Weapons -- veteran of multiple Tournaments of the Seven Heavenly Cities -- the fabled and feared warrior nicknamed the Green Mist of Death by few who saw him and lived -- and an unending mystery even to those who cultivate mystery. But as Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist, soon learned, the forbidding Prince of Orphans was no more than an Earth-born man, John Aman, given great power and trained for ages countless. Yet questions remain...what is Aman's mission on Earth? What is the nature of his incredible power? And is there anyone who can defeat his kung fu? When Iron Fist joins Aman on a life-or-death mission to fight monsters and banish ghosts, Danny may learn the answers to these questions...if he survives!
The first issue of this was great; given the rotating creative teams, it's hard to judge the quality of the later issues, but Lapham's a very respectable talent to finish it out. Aja's covers for this series have been excellent.
MIGHTY AVENGERS #31
Written by DAN SLOTT & CHRISTOS N. GAGE
Penciled by SEAN CHEN
Cover by MARKO DJURDJEVIC
The epic conclusion! The MIGHTY AVENGERS and members of the NEW AVENGERS, YOUNG AVENGERS and the AVENGERS RESISTANCE assemble against the incalculable might of THE UNSPOKEN! Plus QUICKSILVER is reunited with the INHUMANS... now what will they do with him? All this and the strange secret of the Infinite Avengers Mansion stands revealed! This one's got it all!
Awesome cover.
The guy with the wings is, I think, a rather oddly-rendered Hulkling. Who's the guy behind Cassie?
