BOP #68: A canary or a "mock"ing bird? or The Sexual History of Helena Bertinelli
The first page of Cry For Justice #2 has caused some controversy on this board and elsewhere. But it's not like that kind of "behavior" is unheard of in Huntress' history.

First, Babs and the girls talk about Savant, who kidnapped Black Canary and chained her to a fridge bed.

Birds of Prey #68 - Page 5

Uh-oh. Anyone know the exact issues?

Birds of Prey #68 - Page 6

This was revealed in OUTSIDERS #12, but not the circumstances. Nightwing must have told Oracle. Because that's not weird at all.

Ah, so Roy is "quick to let fly." No wonder Cheshire got pregnant!

Birds of Prey #68 - Page 7

Well, give she's now about Roy's age due to that Lazarus Pit dip, it's less "mother and son" these days.

How does that date go?

Birds of Prey #68 - Page 22

Sheesh, I thought they only kept the masks on in ULTIMATE or ALL-STAR stories. Supposedly Gail Simone wrote this so Helene could find realize she deserved better in the romance department. Is a threesome with Hal Jordan and Lady Blackhawk really better? Well, I doubt they'd keep their masks on.

Fabian Nicieza is also on record as being a big ole Dick Grayson fanboy. (I remember him also once saying that he thought Dick and Tim were the two most capable people in the DCU.) Though his fan-boying does tend more towards the male crush version, like in having Tim look up to him and think he seems too cool for school.

But he did also have those ninja people of Ra's ask the butt question. He definitely knows the guy's hot.:-) But I don't know if he ever much deals with his sexuality in an internal, detailed way. Where as Devin Grayson's obviously really interested in the way Dick relates to people, including sexually.

It's the "including sexually" part I have trouble seeing. Lots of people on this site seem to agree that she sexualized the relationship between Bruce and Dick somehow, for instance, and I'm just not seeing it. Romanticized it, sure, made them occasionally behave as though they were in love, maybe, though certainly no more than other writers, but I keep not seeing the sexuality issue. I know that she's talked about the 'fight of fuck' mode she thinks Dick has, but that's not anything I ever got from her writing. To me, a more appropriate word for her Nightwing would be 'cuddle' rather than 'fuck'.

(I remember him also once saying that he thought Dick and Tim were the two most capable people in the DCU.)

That's the sort of assertion that immediately raises the question of what the connotations of 'capable' are to the speaker. Because I get Dick, but Tim? Dick being more capable than Babs, maybe, but Tim more capable than Oracle? (It's not entirely a criticism fo Nicieza's opinion, btw; one reason I love comics as a media is each character and series get written by multiple writers, and each writer has a view on the character, often very defined.)

I should be more clear about what I meant. I've heard her talk about his sexuality in an interview, so I just included that are of Dick as part of her interest since she said it was. I don't see her sexualizing the relationship between Bruce and Dick in canon either. She's also said she thinks of him as bisexual but I've never seen her put that into canon, really. (I think she more said he was potentially bisexual, which I've no problem with.) I assume that Fabian Nicieza considers his sexuality to be part of him too. He just hasn't really put him in sexual situations as much (having never written Nightwing, he also hasn't had the opportunity).

Though now I think about it I remember him having Dick make jokes about any woman who breathes being "his type" which I thought was kind of OOC, but I think he was just trying to get a reaction out of Tim at the time anyway.

So tl;dr I just meant that Grayson's dealt with his sex life and outside of comics has give some thoughts on it.
