Ultimatum #4

Strange gets the special Ed McGuinness variant for this issue, so like Dazzler, Professor X, and Hank Pym, he's a goner. This doesn't bode well for Wolverine, who's the McGuinness variant for #5.

Sabretooth kills Angel.

And Valkyrie cuts off Magneto's arm, before he apparently kills her.

EDIT: Oops, turns out I was wrong. I guess he does doesn't actually kill her; she appears alive on the next page when Cap comes, but she was only in a small part of the page so I missed her. It makes sense he wouldn't kill off his pet character like that.

Jesus fucking Christ, this is putrid.

I have to wonder exactly what shit Loeb has on his editors and Quesada to get this fucking pile of bilge and horseshit past the approval stage. I honestly couldn't imagine any other writer getting away with this crap.

Then again, I can't imagine anyone else wanting to fucking write this.

I think this is the most repulsive thing either of the big two have ever put out.

Yes, I know that's a bold statement. I stand by it.

I haven't really been paying attention to this--is this pretty much what Ultimatum is all about? Watching some of the characters grusomely die?

So, basically every complaint ever made about any company-wide crossover in the last five years, magnified, then shorn of any redeeming quality?

You know that one creepy kid in middle school who was always doodling violent comics of Spawn or Boba Fett killing people in the margins of his notebook? ("And Valkyrie CUTS HIS ARM OFF!!!! And then Magneto DECAPITATES HER!!!!! YEAH!!!") That's what this reminds me off. So juvenile and gross.

I dropped the Ultimate books a while ago so I haven't been following this closely, but I'm guessing there's some kind of Mighty Max-ish "everyone dies but then he goes back in time and then everyone's alive again" reboot coming soon? I don't know how else they can justify such a gigantic bodycount.

Ultimatum; a shooting gallery in comic form

It's like there's a big dartboard with all the Ultimate characters on it, and Leob figures out his next storyline by throwing a few darts and seeing where they'll stick.

I notice Spidey on the cover, fairly prominently, but from what I've read here and elsewhere after USM133 he's nowhere to be found.

So one of those "he's on the cover, not the book" type of situations?

Isn't this after Thor already died to save Valkyrie's ass? Or was that other blonde jailbait and it's all just blurring together? Oh, God, please let this end soon.

Was that ultimate Valkyrie? If so, damn she was meow. Why she'd stand there and let an unskilled swordsman strike her down with her own blade wielded in his off arm, while somehow ignoring the pain and woundshock of losing the first one, I have no idea. You'd think she'd, you know, dodge or something. Maybe try to dive for the hammer, so she's got a weapon to fight back with. Instead, she's suddenly struck dumb with the patented Darth Maul "stand here looking stupid while the enemy kills me, even though thirty seconds ago I was much too good a fighter to let that happen, because this is the part in the script where I die".

Lame.

This was much more fun in musical form.

Seriously, I really like the shot of Valkyrie with the sword -- kinda Barry Smith-ish. Everything else is just... stupid. How many times are they gonna keep escalating this stuff? It's like with the last time we saw the Daleks in NuWho -- oh noes!! Now they gonna blow up EVER'TING!

Gaaaah.

This is such utter bullshit. I was so enraged over Strange's fate I flew into a rage and haven't recovered. At this point it's like Loeb is just killing everyone he can't write (basically, ANYONE) and taking them out like beyotches.

I know Ultimate Strange is sort of n00b-ish compared to his 616 counterpart, but the way Dormammu pwned him was ridiculous. Loeb watches too much Total Recall.

LOOOEEEEBBBBB!!!!!

Blerg. THis is not the way to reboot things. If thery're this out of ideas, they need to scrap the Ultimate line and come up with a new one.

Wow. Put another notch on the "Anime does it better" scoreboard.

I swear, all modern comic writers need to read up on, watch or better yet Play a Super Robot Wars Game.

That way our crossovers can be more like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dVpWREtkIo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExlxxS2_OUo

And have final confrontations more like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue6kP8QqSso
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Enjv_LVXbrA

Then maybe I'd read more event books--which I avoid despite my unnatural love of crossovers.

This is just so... bad. I mean, I have not honestly read a GOOD Jeph Loeb comic yet. His Batman work was incredibly overrated and hyped when it came out, and everything after has basically sucked.

But this.

THIS.

This is like the condensed suck of his Superman & Batman run, combined with the inanity of Rulk and spliced in with his various detours to maim other titles.

I just want Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum to be shoved under a rock and forgotten, forever. Sadly the previews for the new UltiUniverse had Millar refer to Loeb's work, so it seems that it's canon. And they're honestly hyping Loeb as one of the big name writers for the rebooted UltiUniverse.

There is no justice.

Ok, so the Ultimate universe = pointless death and destruction, and if you know what's good for you, never get attached to any given character. Good to know. Somebody tell me how is it they expect anyone to actually want to invest their money, time, and emotions into this universe after this shit?
