Kory, Raven, Dick, and not too much clothing
From the New Teen Titans #39, January 1988 - my formative comics years - comes some fun Edwardo Barretto art.

Oh yes, and there's a story too - Raven is able to feel emotions, falls for Dick Grayson, and seems to be trying to make him fall in love with her as well. Kory provides some emotional counselling in Tahiti for her, and while they're away, Dick moves in with Kory. Various relationship talks are had while lying around not fully dressed.

We start the comic with:

Dick! Dick! Dick! Dick! ...

I did mention not many clothes, right?

"Love should be between two people." - Dick Grayson, 1988

In the interests of space, removed a few pages showing Raven happily making people happy, and Kory requesting to talk to Raven. They teleport to Tahiti...

In the rest of the issue, Raven goes to a party held by other Titans (I do believe Terry Long is there), and Kory and Dick discuss how her marriage with Karras is really just a peace treaty.

Sigh - I miss Kory and Dick as a couple... They just always made sense to me.

Dick didn't change under Kory's influence, though. I mean, he did change over the course of their relationship, but not in any way that wasn't consistent with simply growing up. Him rooming with her here, that's the natural next step in the relationship and perfectly natural and inevitable for a social, family-oriented guy like Dick. It's something he would have done at that point if he were dating Babs, or Roy, or Clancy, or whoever. Turning from a slightly reserved, eager adolescent to an open, confident and committed young man isn't at all the same kind of change as completely changing the principles you live by or going from a natural polyamorous inclination (or alien approximation thereof) to restricting yourself to just your boyfriend.

But it's not being presented here as Dick taking the natural step he was heading for anyway. He's resisting it in the beginning and Kory says he should do it. He wasn't just an adolescent, he was an adolescent raised in an incredibly rigid and disciplined way.

I think Dick's changes here are actually more profound. Kory does agree not to sleep with other people--Dick's pretty much correct in saying that it's not going to work for him otherwise. (Btw, do they ever show Kory chafing under that, btw? Because I think that's another way I doubt the writers are really able to imagine where she's coming from. I suspect that for all Kory talks about Tamaran the writers suspect it would kill the romance for a large part of the audience if Kory was seriously wishing she could sleep with other guys.)

It still seems like Kory's whole pov is being respected in the story. They talk about their different povs that's obviously part of an on-going conversation they always have. Dick says love should be b/w 2 people and her planet is just so strange--he can't get his mind around it. She lectures him on how her planet's way is better and all the problems earthlings would avoid if they got it. But it ends with Kory completely triumphant on all fronts. It starts with Dick having a problem, Kory saying she can help and Dick letting her fix it. Along the way it starts with Dick resisting living together with her, Kory (as part of her lecture on how her ways are better) encourages him to do it and then he does it.

I'd like to link to this webcomic for 3 reasons.
1: It is tangentally related to two different ideas about spreading love clashing in a relationship and both working and not-working (not necessarily in that order)
2: I discovered it like 2 days ago and I happen to want to share it.
3: I'm a bit in love with the main character's design and also want to share it.

Fair warning, the comic is occasionally NSFW.

Dammit. I just read the entire standard archive (not book 0 yet) in one sitting. It is very good, but... I need to study!!! T_T Thank you for the link... though I wish I'd found it after my chemistry exam on Thursday, not before. ^_^
